Wow Great to see progress being made to the abandoned rail line for HS2, Look forward to travelling on this aligment once it open, Great camera work by the way.
Fabulous update from summer 2021; thank you. Mark, HS2 will definitely be twin-track all the way, even inside the "green tunnel" (cut & cover box tunnel) which will be build along (under) the Burton Green cutting at this point, before the Kenilworth Greenway is re-instated above the works in a few years' time at the end of the construction phase.
@@halaljerkbeef unlikely to receive longer term planning consent. Imagine the NIMBY view:a new railway in a tunnel with a reinstated bridleway on top, Plus a pathway retained across the fields less than half a mile away? Surely they would all be up in arms protesting at the duplicated footpaths?
For those worried about the Kenilworth Greenway, (which went along the old railway), the plans show it running on top of the green tunnel when work is complete. While construction is in progress, it is split in two and one has to go onto the public highway to get to and from each half.
There's no way this line will be single track - with both the speed and capacity they're talking about - 14 trains per direction per hour @ 205mph... That's a train every 4:30mins each way - the bridge you're on will most likely be removed and a complete new box constructed for the tunnel.
One assumes the contractors know what they're doing, but the base of the new cut-and-cover tunnel on this existing alignment is to be twice the depth of the original cutting, so there's a lot more earth moving to do !
I had a look at the plans on line. The "green tunnel" is a cut and cover box tunnel with fill on top, and the illustrations on the HS2 web site show it as double track with a dividing wall along the middle. I'll be curious to see whether the tunnel floor will be cast in situ or whether the whole tunnel will be simply a series of pre-cast sections placed end-to-end.
It's so great to see old railway infrastructure being put back to good use!

Do you know if there are any plans to keep the temporary bridleway they put up?

Good to have you back thanks for the update.

yep its double track

you should post more often like you use to
Why are they just scratching the soil when this line will be so much deeper and wider?
So this is a single track link from an existing railway line to the HS2 alignment?
No, this is an abandoned rail line which will be widened and used as part of the hs2 alignment
