Thank You for sharing these videos! I am on the cusp of starting a career in trucking and I stay watching videos like these to absorb all the different experiences.
I too was once a rookie...no judgement .. but in the name of honesty, it's painful watching you back up some times 😂
painful? it hurts my brain ,that is whats left of it! LOL 🤣🤣
He is most definitely in the wrong line of work
I don't think he's as bad as he wants us all to believe he is. He has more than 2 yrs exp but makes it look like he's a rookie
@@hendo721that's a weird flex 😂
@@srroad6062 whole point is to complaint and act like your miserable to get views etc
There is a guy that has a video series on here, the creator's name is AdvancedTruckBacking. I've been backing trailers of various since I was able big enough to run a tractor. Watching that video series changed the way I look at setup and backing. I have a 12ft utility trailer that I've always found to be a complete pain in my ass. After implementing the techniques he shows in the videos I'm handling that little trailer way better than I used to. My wife has never successfully backed a trailer without getting frustrated as hell. She watched the videos and has come a hell of a long way with backing too.
I know and I love that channel, that’s how I learned principles of baking, seems like it’s been awhile he’s not posting any new videos
Don’t lie your wife is not backing sh*t up brother
You might have your Google Maps GPS setting such that it always takes the shortest route.
It thinks you are in a car or SUV or pick-up truck, not a semi.
Alex, if in doubt of how to get into a place, you need to call them and ask for directions....it's easier than getting frustrated.(From a truck driver who has to call a lot of shipper/receivers)
In the old days you had to call, and not from your truck!
should roll your straps up so they dont get tangled
Need to start calling shipper and ask or get close and get out and walk to office and ask your going to up your chances of hitting a car friving in circles
Wouldn't it make sense to call them and ask where you have to go???
im pretty sure todays "truckers" dont believe in doing that lol
@@nathanemery422 well what i do on my 27th year being out here truckin....i google the place and find a phone number and call to see if i can speak to somebody for directions....usually somebody will tell you directions.
@@tutiesmart😊
@@nathanemery422 I know it varies by region but try my given numbers first, if those don't work, I call whatever number I can find on Google, it's rare not to find one, then I just politely ask to speak with shipping/receiving.
I used to haul air freight from Cleveland Ohio to J.F.K. in N.Y.C. so I had to drive thru the city every other day, from the G.W. to Jamaica, but watching this video stressed me out more than that ever did,
Your driving and decision making stresses me out lol
Right.... LoL quite often it's painful to watch, but then again he is a new driver that is still working for a "starter company" for the most part.
Yes and his backing into docks.
You people judge too much as if you don't do worse in your driving, I've seen you so called veterans drive like idiots
@@scottbtraveling1444 Alex driving skills will improve in time, but most importantly, is his thoroughness, which is paramount!
@@scottbtraveling1444 2 years, how much longer can he really claim to be a rookie? The truth is, he is milking his 'rookieness' for views.
Cut this guy some slack, he’s been doing this for under two years, not nearly as long as some of you “veterans”. And the fact that he narrates everything (overthinks everything) actually serves an educational purpose for those that are considering getting into the field. It’s also entertaining and a lot more interesting than watching some old man talk about what he ate that day, which is literally what some of these other trucking channels are all about
Uh no
It's the fact that after 2 years he still has the same habits
Amen! He's FABULOUS!!!
LOL. Amen, bro
omg he used a calculator .5 x 8 🤣
@gibb...they don't teach math in school little lone much of anything today...that math is 2nd grade easily
@@kennethmullen7183Grammar is hard, too!
While most of us know 0.5X is half of X, Alex's genuine transparency hiding nothing is what makes these videos worth watching. One might as well criticize him for what he eats or his being ok pissing in bottles in truck but not pooping in a bucket in truck when inhospitable shipper/receiver doesn’t allow drivers to use their facilities. What one can’t argue with is his overall success learning this trade and his UA-cam viewing numbers.
@@kennethmullen7183well you failed English, good job looking stupid while trying to mock someone .
@MrTelephos oh jeez I forgot that...and grammar.
0.5 time 8 really killed me😂😂. Lots of salute though
Don’t get to close to other trucks on the docks. Don’t slide your tandems when you’re in a small area. Might just end up like this. Don’t freak out over small things. Just roll with it and enjoy the ride. Other than that, great job.
I thought he would've adjusted his tandems when he pulled up slightly from the dock after they unloaded him
I think Garmin needs a software update
Nope that just them… I own the 800 versions he has the 810. Yep sometimes that happens, but their is a feature on them that show you common delivery point from trucks which I love.
Alex, if you know their number, sometimes there’s an option for directions to their building.
“Through the soccer field”
😂
That ain’t apple juice in those jugs by the door 😮
😂
Any new stop that I had never been before I would call that company Shipping/Receiving Dept and get the proper directions and get there in record time! Does your company not allow you to contact them?
In NY the bridge heights allow for a foot of snow
Bro there are trucks going inxand out there all the time, they fit you well fit, you literally stress over things that shouldn't even enter your mind. Its not like you are the first ever truck to go in there.
agreed, all he has to do is take his time and back in, perfection is not necessary
LMAO I am the receiving clerk at the annoying place to get to, you either talked to me or my coworker when you checked in. We endlessly hear how much of a pain it is to get back here but management doesn't care so we can't do much
Alex should have called you
Ever think of calling ahead to the customer for directions instead of relying on a GPS? Try it...its wonderful
The windshield wipers are screaming to stop
And you have reached the "everything and everyone sucks" burnout phase. Time to consider the exit route brotha! I'm in the same boat except I don't have a way out of trucking right now.
Alex, have you ever heard that mobile phone is created for calls how to get in to location if cant find routes in any other way, i drove trucks since early 1980's and that time we did not even have GPS and we found the way much more easier as when we did not found location, we did ask from people
I appreciate the quick clips of Cleveland OH Alex put in this video on his way to Buffalo NY, but those multiple rumble strips in the road on I-90 on the innerbelt are telling you to SLOW the Frick DOWN. They are not joking with the multiple BIG yellow 35 MPH curve ahead warning signs on the highway there. (I'm sure that curve with that load of huge paper rolls was real fun going around.) They don't call that curve Dead Man's Curve for nothing. Tons of bad accidents have occurred on that curve ever since it was constructed in the 1960's.
I was wondering if he might get lost in traffic in Buffalo and end up accidentally on the highway to the Peace Memorial Bridge to Canada. That would be a small nightmare. But seriously I found myself screaming come on Alex... "use your brain" and use your phone to CALL the place you were delivering to and ask them for directions on how to get back to their loading dock.
I also loved it that with one of his other videos earlier this year I realized I stopped at the same rest stop north of Cincinatti on the same day he was there (and I was wondering on that trip if I might see him on the road).
i trucked in the late seventies and 80's, sucked then. can't imagine what it's like today. hard livin. your good, have good equipment.
You were in that big parking lot i wouldve called or took a walk .
Hey Alex I've been following you I'm new to your channel and also I'm a otr truck driver And 2nd generation trucker. I learn this from a old time trucker school bus in trucking is called a cheese wagon lol tires are gators, and never do a ostrich stop , pretrips and post trip inspections are always a main priority no matter what and also safety, follow all DOT regulations that is required by them and keep your csa score down with your company
You don't feel the bumps... UNLESS you are going thru I - 80 around the Indiana /Illinois border.... A more accurate statement. Lol
Hey I am in CDL school right now. I have a question. If you have trouble finding the docks to unload at a business, is it allowed to call the business for help and directions?
One of several things I like about Alex is his penchant for being meticulous. That is a very good trait to have which seems to be lacking in many of us these days.
There are different ways to do things
Agree! When thoroughness becomes a habit, it becomes 2nd nature! 👍
@@justinfuller3053 Code for, I take short cuts!
The nicest way to describe a germaphobe I have ever seen!
He’s not meticulous he’s a spaz who should not be behind the wheel of a semi. He needs a new career
This route palnning could of been done 1 time instead of 15 times lol. Hopefully you learn from this. This is what gives truckers a bad rap getting lost in the city
Yap that's New York for yah I know the feeling when I drove a truck and I had to drive threw that state.
41:48 squash is like racquetball against a wall with a red line.

Ever heard of bots?
Hi Alex hope your having a good weekend my brother
When I was leaving work yesterday I saw your guys trucks in Buffalo and I was like one of them could be Alex
Been in that situation many times!!! Aggravating as hell!!!!
Awesome job I lucked out and got a local gig with rl Lipton delivering beer local route running tractor trailer
Look on the BOL for a phone number its not rocket science, call your dispatch to find a contact number. Google maps is a tool not a answer.
Don't be a ass, not every load allows for calling the business, or good luck getting someone to answer In a timely manner....
also his company will frown on using the cell phone while in the middle of the street, just clicking on the 4ways will not stop a multimillion dollar lawsuit if something were to happen while he is trip planning in the street.
@scottied67 you stop in parking lot, pull to the side of the road. Why would you think about doing it in the middle of the road.
Hi Alex u were not too far from where I live in New York state. I assume u were in buffalo ny since it said hertel ave lol. I live not too far from downtown buffalo ny
QUIT FREAKING OUT ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Seriously it’s annoying and I feel like the video is mostly the sound of turn signals
Hazards
@@NavDaGreat I am a trucker for 7 years now, I drive in nyc never freaked out. I just don’t overthink everything
@Nav77758 , not me. I do my due diligence to check everything I need even b 4 I leave the shipper. I even call the consignee to ask if they have or allow parking at their property if I arrive early or late. I do otr🤙🤙🤙🤙oh I think y he does all those sounds like moaning etc. Alex needs to entertain his followers. Got it🤙🤙🤙🤙
Exactly
Good old Battle Creek Michigan.
Man you’re aggravating at times you’re doing everything the hard way Just Call Them !!!!!!!!!
Just be glad you didn't have to deal with 10 feet of snow while you were in Buffalo.
One thing Alex could do to vastly improve his proficiency and help to reduce his stress would be for him to utilize a truckers GPS. It would greatly help him to quickly find and get himself to the customers via actual truck routes. It's a horrible risk to use Google which is designed for 4-wheelers, Not semi trucks.
Ummm he has one a Garmin
He has one. I used to use one when I ran the states, they're useful but Google/GPS have limits. Urban areas are a quagmire of unknowns if you're unfamiliar with them. Spending more time preplanning helps a lot. Try to identify more than one possible entry/exit, in the event one is no truck entry like he had.
Looks like he is using the Rand McNally GPS to me? Maybe I'm incorrect on that one.
Pretty sure he is using the car garmin on his windshield too. And wonders why it’s “wrong”
Something that still bothers the absolute shit outta me with this kid is every single time he stop he pulls both brakes idk y that bothers me but it does, you only need to tell your yellow one wen your stopping for a minute or 2...
At 24:33 why do put apple juice in your water container 😮
Its always a good day when alex post a new vid
Were you in Buffalo going to modpack?
Great job making it happen in these situations man. The ticking of the blinkers though🤬😂
You may want to remember lunch times for the employees
Yeah my company sends me to a receiver and shipper in nyc once a week. It's a real pain in the gonads. Go slow and swing wide partner!
Little advice, before you get into your trailer close 1 door so you have something to hold in to, and also if thkse rolls can break 1 strap IF they do slide then they can break 3...just sayin you really dont have to strap them tho, there not foin anywhere
29:15 you were doing jug handle turns. Not button hook.
why do you make driving and back a truck look hard especially when you backing into a dock
Your videos are gr8.
These comments are always helpful
Welcome to NY!! Thanks God you didn't had to come in to NYC. You would have lost your s**t lol !! Great video.
You got this Alex! 🎉
Keep doing you
Do you hear or feel the notches as the tandems slide forward or back?
We should be called “the blinker gang”😂😂😂
How many of you flinched when he hit the dock backing up … I knew it would happen lol. Alex please get a camera for the rear brother - you’re rig is too long and you’re working blind when u back up. Don’t let a tragedy or accident happen before doing that. Please. Use a cheap ring stickup cam if anything - it’ll do the trick just fine.
FYI nys measures bridge ht from the axle hub
Oh look, the negative comments are starting to be deleted slowly……
Roll up the straps man!
Hes lazy
Doesn’t want to get his little precious hands dirty.
Where did you get your seat cushions at
Good afternoon Alex 😊
I was wondering if my truck would be in your video. I was parked a few spots down from you in Ohio
Is Alex being paid while waiting for loading and unloading? I’ve heard truckers only make money when the wheels are moving??? Seems terribly unfair for guys to not be paid when they are stuck waiting.
Google street view is your friend
Just a suggestion if you’re going to video yourself backing…TURN YOUR 4WAYS OFF!!!! Holy shit!
Be happy you were sent to Buffalo in June and not January.
I enjoy your vlogs, but how in the world did you get your CDLs?
lol
Legend has it he got it out of a Cracker Jack box
Great video as always but I feel pretty amused when you say you are heavyheavy. Here in northern europe I’m going tomorrow with a truck thats 130k lbs (load is 84k) with the same size engine that you have in your freightshaker. But great job anyway and good content 👍
Imagine he had to start hauling tri Axle weights on a reefer
Same deal in Canada. I used to do btrains which are good for 63,500 kg(140,000lb) right now I do up to 46,500kg(102,000lb). My LIGHT freight is 80,000, lol. But it's all good it's not a competition.
Just depends on the state Some allow way more than 80k
@@shotgunz124 true. I used to run my btrain and quad flatdeck in Washington where it's possible to exceed 80,000lbs. There's a few others, and like the oversize lowbedder guys. But yeah for 5-axle stuff it's a safe bet to stay at 80k. I stay in Canada these days tho so all the us regulations are getting fuzzy lol
@@shotgunz124 Yeah. We have new regulations that allow us max weight up to 76 tonne without special permissions and we truckers here think this is getting out off control because the wages stay the same. I’d rather have us regulations and trucks.
He thinks its bad he should have been doing it back in the 80's pulling a 48 footer without gps and cellphones.
I highly respect the old timers who did that
There is a guy screaming at you at 28:23 lol
looks like his was going 🤷 lol
Probably one of many over the time
When you’re backing into a dock and you are not going to drop the trailer you’re going to keep it hooked to your Tractor why do you slide tandems back? Why can’t you just leave them where they’re at
Dock lineup, company/customer policies and of course, structural safety and good practices. Standard operating procedure
Some shippers/receivers require it but not all
snake plinskin. escape from new york.
27:53 eh use the damn driveway lol fak
Brotha do your company train new people am from California what school did you go to let me know would love to work for your company
i know that plant... out in Kalamazoo Mi... bet you have paper...
Plan your trips before you leave your customer.
You can plan all day long, that one would have gotten me even. The Satellite image didn’t shoe the yellow overhang to prevent the truck from entering. I been driving for a while.
Alex is always looking 2 steps ahead. Won't see him having to back out of a dead end.
I'm not sure about that 😖
I'm not sure about that. Coz if he does there us really no reason in freaking out. Just sayin🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
He would do it on purpose just for the content

You’re in buffalo lol you made it sound like you were going to nyc lol come on man are you a truck driver or not?
Clickbait
He's not
Here's a helpful hint. Google maps is NOT intended for large trucks. That's why it changes routes. It thinks you are in a small car and will take back roads, neighborhood routes and even restricted roads.
I have used Google maps exclusively for 10 years of my trucking career. The trick is to use it like a digital map, look at the route ahead of time, look for place you shouldn't go, use satellite and street view. In other words, PREPARE. Even with GPS, just following the instructions of a dummy box can leave you screwed
I will keep saying it over and over just invest in a cmv GPS it will keep you off of Bone Head Truckers for using a automobile gps.
There are lots of trucker GPS apps to choose from. I'm sure Alex knows that. Saved me a few times.
@@alexithyme3511I was a first responder and had to get to places fast before the days of GPS and digital maps on a computer screen. About 3/4 of the way into my career, we got those devices but early on we'd have map books. I'd pull over, look at the map and plan out the route in my head. It became second nature and if we really need to get there fast, we'd ask dispatch for the nearest cross street. With that information, I could map it out quickly.
@20:25 if you just turn the wheel to the right and pull forward you would have straightened it out.
