Very nicely filmed. What a beautiful and isolated area. I have been to Achill but up to this neck of the woods. Great trail, although it looked tricky determining where it was at times. Looks like a wonderful hike.
Glad you liked the video. Good luck if you do the route and hope you have good weather as it is wet enough in places and wouldn't be too nice in heavy rain. Martin
Ceili the nephin beg range and the plain of erris has the greatest expanse of active blanket peat bog in western europe. The forests were cut down in neolithic times and peat formed over thousnds of years and is still growing. Its an ecosystem now in its own right.
Thanky you Captain, our doyen of the hillwalking fraternity. Had it not been for you we wouldn't be trying our hand at video. All will be revealed. It's not rocket science really, cos I can do it! Just having an eye for a moody shot, good bit of video clip (which you obviously have in spadefuls judging by your past efforts), and a bit of jiggery pokery with the editing and music. Often the music is in my head as we climb, but we need to be able to use it on UA-cam - Will PM you using MVs.
Great content but I can't help but cringe when you pronounce Nephin "ne-fin." It's pronounced "Ney-fin." Also Slieve is pronounced "shleeve" not "sleeve," the "sh" sound is important and bothy is pronounced "boh-hee."
The most remote area of Ireland is in Nephin beg. The nearest road is 8km away.
You're right, it's certainly remote but great scenery. Sharron and Martin
Gotta say full faith in your boots. Excellent outing. We loved the blanket bog valley. Ancient and untouched. Brilliant going....

Enjoyed this video, I did this route two summers ago and we had not as good a day as you had, but a majestic trek... Geo
great stuff, had planned to do the route some time this summer, really good to see some of it in advance..
Stories of the Good neighbors in those parts are legendary. I'd definitely be leaving some milk out for them before braving that trek.
Glad you enjoyed
looks like an excellent hike, nice video :)
+Shane Mac Con Uladh Thanks, Shane. Wasn't the best of days in fairness, but the scenery was epic all the same.
Wish I could leave my last breathe here
I've uploaded a GPX file to the Mountainviews website. See the video description above for the link

The great green deserts of Ireland! Stripped of the forests and left barron

Would anyone have a GPX file of this walk?
Always handy to have :)
How on earth did people live in that lonely place 😢
It's certainly remote nowadays but 150 years ago the population of Ireland was twice what it is now
