Let's see what I have to check now…engine, antifreeze, oil, tires…do I really need this? Not really! In this video, I will tell you 10 tips that will help you prepare any motorcycle for a long trip, stay with me!
The very first thing you have to do is to ask yourself a few questions: Where the trip will be, how long and on what terrains? Are you going to sleep in the tent or you will book hotels? When you know the answers you will have a clear idea of what you will really need. For example on a long trip, more than 10,000km you have to change the oil, the tires and maybe to carry some spare parts.
On the other hand on the weekend trips, you can go with only your credit card and you will be okay. This will help you to prepare the bike and the luggage more efficiently and stop wasting time and money for things that you don't really need.
No more talks let's go to the tips:
1. Service the bike before the trip
I cannot stress enough how important this is! Everything you do before the trip will help you during the trip. It is that simple and still cannot get why some riders miss it!
2. Spare parts
This is something that will require you to have at least some basic knowledge of your motorcycle. Learn it now so you don't need to do it later. The manuals are usually a very good starting point but you can always find more than enough information online.
3. Comfort is everything
That's right, the comfort is everything! It is so important not only for your ass, as you might think at the moment but also for your safety.
4. Navigation
No doubts that on a trip the navigation is something very important. It doesn't matter what option you will choose to use, a proper GPS or your telephone make sure that you set it properly. The right position has to be as high as possible right in front of your eyes without blocking the road of course.
5. Luggage
With the luggage options, you will find so many different opinions and what is most important is that they all will be right. What you will choose will depend only on you and the type of trips that you plan to have.
6. Safety
I told you once that safety is just an illusion and I will stay behind my words but there are a couple of things that you can do to improve your safety on the road.
7. Motorcycle security
To protect your motorcycle is very important, especially when you travel abroad. You have to do your best to protect it because no one will do it for you. Because it is a long discussion I will recommend to go and watch a video that I made a long time ago. The audio is terrible but the information is priceless. You can watch it here.
8. Plan the route carefully
I talk about this in many videos but I will do it again! Make a plan and follow it. I don't mean to be so strict with all traffic lights and exactly the km but you should have a basic idea of how the trip will be executed. Don't listen so call experts that will tell you to go without any plans in the name of the adventure. This could finish very badly for many of you!
9. Make a backup plan
Having a backup is equally important as the main plan. This will give you peace of mind if something goes wrong and you don't have to stick without any idea what to do now.
10. Double-check everything
Yes, this will be my final tip, go and double-check everything and I will repeat again: Everything you do before the trip will help you during the trip!

Happy travels
Absolutely!
I like your content way back in Kenya. I have a Serow 225 and plan long trips in Kenya. You really helped me. Paul, nyeri.
Happy to help!
Good advice. Can I add one tip too please? You said to service yourbike completely before you start your trip. That's very important, but what is even better is to do that 2 to 3 weeks before the trip. That way, if there are any problems to sort you have time. Also if anything was not quite right after the service there is time for you to notice and correct it.
Yes, this is exactly what I do. Thanks for adding!

Thanks, man! The same to you and the family!
They say that people that spend a lot of time watching videos of their passion are wasting life. Motivation only comes when you put your gear on. I listened to this once so the and next day I put my gear on with no plan, 4 hours later, I came home and my felt awesome for it.
@@nev357 One day i too will have a bike and i will join you on the road!
Very wise advices, as always. Thank you, Pavlin.

Awesome! Thank you!
Real top-list:
1. Toilette paper,
2. Pain killers,
3. Service manual printed on paper (see point 4)
4. A friend with good mechanical abilities travelling with you.
5. Dehydrated coffe
😆
Whatever work for you!
Thanks Pavlin, I always have to offer another tip! Make sure your riding gear is fit for purpose, that means it will be suitable and fit comfortably. Dont buy new boots or a crash helmet the week before you leave, as you say, comfort is paramount. If your helmet is a bad fit, it will be distracting and dangerous. If your boots are to tight or not flexible, you will not be as relaxed.
Another thought. If we spend an hour riding our bikes round the city, how many airborne microparticles are we riding through?
Thanks for adding!
Pavlin, you had black color jacket now you have white. If you compare these two jackets, is it easy to keep your white color jacket clean? Which color is better in your opinion? Thanks for your answer. BR Adrian.
Hi Adrian, I prefer the black but this was send to me for free. Cannot complain. This jacket is way better than the model I had. To keep clean black or white is the same. The black is not clean, you just don't see it!
Out of 10 Im following 5 tips, I will follow others too. useful video sir thanks 😊
Great 👍
on my last trip to Namibia - 3 months ago - a saw a guy who was shorter than me on a tenere 1200 with enough luggage to survive 12 months. he really battled - thanks Pavlin for the video
Yes, there are some guys like him but soon or later they will learn the lesson! Thanks for taking the time Daniel!
Great video Pavlin as usual. What is the net look alike cover you have on your seat ? It looks great to me and probably prevent you when wearing rain outfit from sliding forward when your brake. Is it its main purpose ? Thanks and ride safe V
It provides an extra cushion by keeping 0,5cm air gap which also aloud the air to circulate and actually help you to ride longer.

Thanks Bernardo! There is nothing important to say. Its provide an extra cushion by having 0.5cm air gap between the seat and your but. You can order it from Amazon, just make sure that you have the right size: www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRKPV8H/?ref=exp_motorcycleadventures_dp_vv_d

Stay Home Stay Safe
I don't think that I am risking my health, but thanks for taking the time!
I use the new free time to do all the service stuff you tend to overlook otherwise
Yes, this is a good reason to check the bikes.
I am sure you answered this a hundred times, but not on a video. What is the cable end sticking up on the left side of your handle bars? Thx again for sharing. Cheers from Canada.
It is a spare clutch cable.
Spare clutch cable, already routed so it's much easier to swap out on the road I believe.
Pavlin, Can you give me a link to your video in Ireland when your bike fell down into the ditch. That was a crazy moment - can you laugh about it now after the distance of 2 years? Alan
Hi Alan, here you are: ua-cam.com/video/lXU6182fcFc/v-deo.html. Yes, it is a good fun now!
I sent your link to Andy Man Cam
(British but lives in Hamburg) because in his latest video, he had a similar accident .. he replied
Holy sh... That was the exact nightmare scenario that was running through my mind as the bike was going over! If it had fallen just a little further to the side, it would have been in the field and I'd probably still be stuck there!! Awesome that he managed to find so much help!
Good, thanks for the advice
Any time
I never skimp on tires or helmet.
Good!
Also in Italy was legal and now..
I hope it will end very soon!
Very nice advices bro...
