The style of percussively playing with the wood of the bow is known in the classical music realm as "col legno". It sounded particularly interesting on Wasserman's electric upright....
I have to disagree with some here. Victim was always one of my favorites - poignant and introspective. And the Rob and Bob show was also a favorite era of Ratdog for me - the SOUNDS those two could make. I feel that this shows Rob Wasserman as being one of the finest bassists in the world; Bobby is in good voice, and the overall mix is well done. This is a very good example of this song and their capabilities.
I looked it up for you. Here is a symphonic piece that utilizes a similar technique (col legno) as Mr. Wasserman: "Dream of Witches' Sabbath" of the fifth and last movement of Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique
I have to disagree with shattersmith and terrapinbobby. Victim was always one of my favorites - poignant and introspective. .. Yer supposed to LISTEN, not just be a SLAVE. Everything Bobby has done is NOT good. SOme good, some bad. Victim or the Crime is MUCHO GRANDE bad. A waste of five minutes. And four semi-tones. ..

how long ago was that name given? surely it wasn't part of classical music until some experimentalists came along. how long ago could that have been?
Anybody know the name of that 6-stringed bass instrument Rob Wasserman is playing?
Clevinger

Who's the "introducer"?
around 6:50-6:51 bob throws rob a note and he catches it..
6:15 scared the children
Bobby (is/was/has always been) uninteresting without Jerry. Especially doing "Victim".
I am a huge Dead fan but this song blows. Even Jerry called it hideous.
Get Weir'd
