Fun fact: almost nobody in Austria has seen 'The sound of music'. I tried it once, but coldn't stand the corny stereotypes for more than 20 minutes. This movie is pure fiction; it neither represents the traditional Alpine lifestyle and music, nor the Austria of today. What exactly do you mean by "is most of europe of the catenary design"? Do you ask about electrification in general or the actual design of the catenary? Most mainlines in Europe are in fact electrified. There are different systems used in different countries: the main four are 1.5kV and 3kV DC, and 15 or 25kV AC. The lower voltage of the DC system usually requires "beefier" catenary (because lower voltage = higher currents), so there are differences in the design between DC and AC catenary. DC is mainly used in Italy, older lines in France and Spain, Slovenia, Belgium, Netherlands, as well as in Poland and surrounding areas in Slovakia ansd Hungary. Everyone else uses AC, and even in the traditionally DC countries new lines are usually built with AC as well, as DC just cannot handle the power requirements of high speed trains. The only notable exception to that overall rule is the 750V DC third rail network in the south of England.

Those massive container movers remind me of the time that I spent in Rotterdam, assisting in the loading of cargo ships with Army vehicles and supplies bound for Kuwait. Cool. I already love this only 10 or so minutes in, because the foliage and grass are changing color to hibernate, making them far more beautiful than when green, IMO of course. I'm stoked. Cheers 😄
No need to apologize for the fog at the beginning of the trip, lorirocks. First, no one can control the weather. Second, the mist added a certain "atmosphere" to the first 45 minutes. Now removing tongue from inside cheek. No need to offer apologies for the lack of foliage, either. One advantage to not having the flora all leafed out is that it opens up the viewing of landmarks--both natural and man-made--as the country rolls by. The Austrians certainly love their wayside sound abatement walls. Or do the barriers also serve the dual purpose of snow fences in open fields? During this five-hour journey the train passed through quite a number of stations. Must ask, where the heck are the people? It seemed like nobody was taking a train today until about fifteen minutes before end-of-run, and even then the total number waiting on the platforms was counted on two hands. Lorirocks, you didn't borrow Google Earth's software and "erase" everyone, did you? Most curious. 0:54:48 Trespasser on the right. 0:58:20 A church for Paolo to explore on the left. 2:34:52 Now, there's a great run if you can get it--a light engine move on a high-speed line. 3:08:10 That must be one heavy load of timber! 3:50:06 Mid-train helper. Wasn't sure this long-format was going to work, but--even though I viewed the entire video over two days--everything worked out fine. Keep up the great work, lorirocks, this mostly high-speed/express freight run was fun (I managed to get in a beer on the second day.)
Not knowing much about Austria and having never visited , I looked forward to watching this video . I had always thought that Austria was mountainous , obviously not on the route that this train took . I found the scenery totally boring and the high walls and fences a nuisance . Having said all that , the video recording and descriptions were top class . Maybe next time , a journey where there are some mountains and valleys etc !!!!
I’m British but live in Austria and one of the many things I love is the diversity of landscape. I live in a little village in Lower Austria close to Vienna right on the Danube. The scenery in parts is very much like Devon where I grew up but then you cross the Danube and the rich fertile plains exist where a great deal of intensive farming takes place. Slightly further north along the Danube it gets more hilly and some wonderful wines and apricots are grown but one can still see close to where I live in the distance the alps. Austria is a wonderful place to visit, the mountains of course but I encourage to to visit all parts as it is very diverse and rich in its geological and cultural Landscape. Just as was the case for many years with Americans who thought England consisted of London and Stratford Upon Avon so many think Austria is just mountains, how wrong they are and how much they miss!
Great video! As an old Viennese living in Canada I took my daughter to Vienna a few years ago. We flew to Frankfurt and took the train to Vienna. Of course, that was the passenger train on the new line, going much of the time at 200Km-Hr. This freight train only goes 100Km-Hr, BUT you can watch this at 2x the speed and you have the effect of the passenger train going at twice the speed! Plus, then the video is only two and a half hour long :-)
Great video! At 2:49 and 5:09 (among other places), there is some sort of automated alarm. What is it saying? I can't quite make it out to translate myself.

Great video took a couple of days to watch
Thanks
Great cab view. You can really appreciate the quality infrastructure that is ÖBB. I always look forward to riding the rails here.
Maybe not the most picturesque of journeys, but still a very interesting and enjoyable trip through Austria. Eyes right 👀 @ 54:74 😁 Once again many thanks for all you do 😊❤
I have to say, WOW! I am so enjoying this journey. Thank you so much for taking the time out...I really do appreciate it..... not even half way.... sweat!
Vielen Dank
i love this channel i travel without leaving brazil thanks for everything it makes us relax
Vielen Dank

Veľmi pekné video. :) Sehr schönes Video.
That was well done ! Thank you for sharing it with us...:):):)
Who ever built the Lenz to Germany section did an amazing job with no tunnels in Austria. Only a couple of cuttings. Obviously the vehicle/people/farm crossings where removed when the line speed was increased and under bridges added.
Austria is not only mountains :-) The landscape in the Alpine foreland is just rolling hills, no need for tunnels there.
The Danube basin has no mountains so no need for tunnels. Majority of Austrian rail tunnels are on the Southern Railway between Vienna and Graz.
j'ai regardé ctte vidéo en 4 fois mais quelle propreté et entretien des voies. Bravo a l'Autriche; Et combien il a fallu de temps pour mettre en ligne une vidéo de 5h 05 sur you tube. Merci pour le travail et la visite l'Autriche. Amicalement de la Bourgogne en France;
Thank u for uploading this. The area were the train is going is some of the most beautiful places in Germany and Austria
@ Okay. It's maybe not a postcard view or just as beautiful as the Alps. But I like the border region between Austria and Germany
It was an epic journey but in the end we made it nice vid.
nice to see a much more sustainable concrete sleepers and a nice tamp on the ballast
DANKE, Super Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations on this expansion of your great channel!

I'm stoked. Cheers 😄
Glad you like it!
Thanks for your positivity!
A church for me! Thanks!
I really love this channel
I appreciate it
Not knowing much about Austria and having never visited , I looked forward to watching this video . I had always thought that Austria was mountainous , obviously not on the route that this train took . I found the scenery totally boring and the high walls and fences a nuisance . Having said all that , the video recording and descriptions were top class . Maybe next time , a journey where there are some mountains and valleys etc !!!!
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I have many hours of Austrian mountains on the way =)
Next time show a train cab trip in Austria that paints mountains and valleys.
An Electrified train cab trip.
where you live? in a cave?
Plus, then the video is only two and a half hour long :-)
Sometimes YT can be stubborn, but finally it worked out. Cool!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙂
Great video! At 2:49 and 5:09 (among other places), there is some sort of automated alarm. What is it saying? I can't quite make it out to translate myself.
I have really enjoyed all the rail journeys and wonderful . Many thanks for all the effort you put into making and editing these videos, it is really appreciated. Good to hear you will still be driving trains and filming your journeys; this is what makes UA-cam worth watching. Your videos are fantastic adverts for and taking train rides.
At 15:19, the sign for the 80 km/h speed limit is put upside down, and it bothers me more than it should XD
Awesome video!
Haha, watching your channel since a year, never thought I would see this route here. I traveled this route so often in both directions ^^
Danke
Thanks for this mega upload.
Thanks for the cab ride❤️
Hi, I have seen many films and althrough I am not an expert I seem to be able to say that Switzerland and Austria have widespread and highly efficient railways I think I can say they are present in all the countries north of the backward Italy. Mauro Catarinella (Italy). Unfortunately.
"Backward Italy?" 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
thumbs up! gr8 job, as usual, u rock!
The country is kept so beautifully clean :)
It is one of the more developed countries in Europe, maybe not Switzerland-level, but close. I always enjoy visiting Austria.

Estupendo recorrido, gracias Paolo.
Hey there! Great video! Props!
Can someone tell me what's a neutral section?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks. A section of catenary without power, seperating 2 power supplies whose phases aren't synchronised.
@@lorirocks777 thank you!

e.g. after 00:05:05 "Zugbeeinflussung" for "punctiform train influencing"
PZB is used to calculate a braking curve that determines if the train can stop before the next red signal, and if not, to brake the train.
😂
Thanks for this video with 60fps for big screen. Very good! 4:56:50 Lol! Austria is cleaner than Germany. 😁
😂
A lovely way to sit back and enjoy a ride through all of its weather conditions. What happened at 1:31:23 ? The driver seemed to brake just before the double slip but the film was edited to show the driver building up speed again.
Thanks! The train came to a stop a bit too early and there was a call with a signal man in between.
Nice one 👍
Quality Footage 👍
Servus Lori!
I assume you speak english? Will the video be public and monetized? How much video do you want to use?

Excellent cabride!
I really don't know what do you think but as for me I hate the ugly and boring noise walls. Lot's of railway lines covered almost entirely by such high walls in many locations that totally blocked the view.
I don't like them either..
its a good video i enioyed it very much make some more that was good
Thanks!
I enjoyed the rail trip across parts of Austria had been planning on going to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria last year before the pandemic exploded across the globe.
So for now this is the only recourse available for travel by rail in Central Europe. At least it's giving me great ideas cities and towns I really want to see in person.
