Tom Hanks has been in the acting business for more than 30 years... Done both comedy and drama. With that two combinations, he can be quite versatile, though it seems he has become more of the latter, abit serious and selective on what role to take on, but then his comedy roots kicked in, and made David S. Pumpkins his own. Knowing that, made me more interested in his newly created character. "I'm David Pumpkins! And I'm gonna scare the Hell outta you!"
They had a crippling heroin addiction. B-Boy skeleton 2 lost his life due to the extreme drug use. David S. Pumpkins’ wife left him when she found him in a bathhouse with two other men. B-Boy skeleton 1 was evicted and had to live under a bridge. They payed the price of fame.
Sometimes you just get a feeling for how things got the way they were. I was surprised to hear Bobby Moynihan say they got the suit after the idea because it seemed like seeing the suit in a store would inspire the skit.

It was mostly funny because of the dancing ghouls and their sweet moves. It was a bit sad because Tom Hanks came across as an out-of-work birthday magician/clown working a side job to make November rent. It was relate-able because the confused questions of the couple were intelligent and legit. And finally, the punctuation that made the skit memorable was the surprise from behind at the end to leave the viewer on an emotionally positive note. Emotion is the driver of memory. In the future, there will be a college course dedicated to this skit. Deceivingly complete. Sneaky funny. So, who were the writers/cast than thought it would bomb, and who correctly supported it? I wanna know.
Lord no, although technically A League of Their Own was probably his first big dramatic role, it was “Philadelphia” that was his major breakout dramatic role, that cemented his status as a dramatic actor after all the (romantic) comedies. It was groundbreaking as it was just after the worst of the AIDS epidemic and when retrovirals were coming onstream, so HIV/AIDS stopped becoming an automatic death sentence. But the film, and Hanks, did a lot to develop public empathy for the disease and sufferers.
I really loved the Sketch And did not know that they did more than that one sketch with the characters. I just found DSP on the tube last week and have been replaying it ever since..

It just goes to show that the funniest things in life are also the goofiest, and yet comforting things. Whenever you see an infant, and you try to make it laugh. What do you do? You make goofy faces and silly noises or you speak in a silly tone. It's funny to the child yet also comforting, because they're processing the humor aspect of it and simultaneously processing the intent that you are only trying to make them laugh and have no harm intended... That's what I think creates the comforting feeling... So my point is... Sketches like this one, appeal's to most people, possibly because it's just a goofy skit with silly dancing and funny facial expressions and funny voices and has a very obvious intent to be funny and to get a laugh out of you. So many examples of characters along these lines... Dr. Evil, Jim Carrey as Fire Marshall Bill, Steve Martin's The Jerk, Andy Kaufman's character on Taxi, Steve Urkel and so on..and so on..
David S. Pumpkins would not be David S. Pumpkins with out Tom Hanks . Thank you for playing the role . Even if you didn’t like or agree with it . ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Who is David Pumpkins? "Oddball David S. Fremin hosted a Halloween TV special from 1979-1986 titled "Spookjigs" that featured a strange array of absurdist drama, incoherent ghost storytelling, and surrealist magic tricks. David always included guest appearances of his two sons, David (junior), and Alexian towards the end of each show. On the ill-fated final show televised in on Halloween of 1986, when David asked for his sons to come on stage, he was alerted offstage that both his sons had been killed in a car accident on their way to the studio that evening. As the show was always filmed live, David insisted during a break that the program finish. He grabbed two plastic skeletons, placed them on either side of himself, and explained to the live audience the sudden death of his sons that very night. He spoke to the skeletons for the remainder of the show, to the audience's horror and bewilderment. During the final minutes of the show, a studio hand had fallen through a stair railing, severing her neck, though she survived the incident. The producer of the show died a week later in a car accident on the same road the sons were killed, and Rolling Stones reported other strange violent occurrences during the filming of the show or shortly after. David Fremin never filmed another show. He asked for the Spookjigs stage and his entire bizarre emporium to be dismantled and sold the next day. The show's entire physical assets were sold and accounted for, except the plastic skeletons. David claims he never took them home." Well, that's the best I can do folks. Happy Halloween ;)
