And the reality is, most of the places in North and South Holland are very well connected. Rotterdam to Schiphol airport is less than half an hour Intercity train. Heathrow to London or Malpensa to Milan takes longer.

@Philip Barnard Maybe you have been in your hotelroom all the time, or maybe it was years ago. I have seldom seen a city that has developed such a lot in the last few years. Especially cause they built a lot of new apartments in the city centre. Til 10 years ago, the Rotterdam city centre was a place of office buildings. In the evening it was rather empty Now all the new inhabitants come down from their high buildings to have fun and that hasn't remained unnoticed. A lot of good atmosphere. Full of terraces in spring and summer. Also a explosion of new tourists. I can't walk in the streets without hearing a lot of different European languages. Rotterdam has become touristic too, but in a nice way, and without being a made up place.

Rotterdam is the most culturally diverse and progressive city in the Netherlands, there's a close proximity to Schiphol (20 minutes by train), and has it's own airport (The Hague International Airport). Where Amsterdam symbolizes the history of the Netherlands, Rotterdam represents it's future. Rotterdam has been listed in countless publications as one of their favorite city's in most recent years. Good food, friendly people, gorgeous achitecture, hotels, clubs, etc. And if people want to combine their trip to Holland and Eurovision in Rotterdam with a visit to Amsterdam, it's only 40 minutes by train! Amsterdam is over crowded and the Netherlands is more then just Amsterdam, Eurovision would be a great opportunity to showcase what else the country has to visit!!! Deban... let it go!

The Ziggo Dome has a capacity of 17.000, but it has barely any room for press. The nearby AFAS Live, the current venue for Eurovision in Concert, could serve as a press centre.
Ahoy Rotterdam is a bit smaller (serves an audience of 15.800), but has enough space for a press centre within the building. Duncan is from the region of Rotterdam, so this would make his family and friends proud. And it would be the very first Eurovision in the harbour city.

I do agree with both sides, Amsterdam being the most logistical but, with the tourism board as William has said is advising to avoid the Dutch capital due to the fact that May is one of the busiest tourist months for the city, you also have the Dutch Grand Prix which runs from the first two weeks of May and I believe they also host a UEFA Champions League game as well so Amsterdam is going to be packed, the flights are going to be racked up to at least 65% above the usual fare and full of randy sweaty semi drunk football fans and to quote Sweet Brown "ain't nobody got time for that".
My personal choices are Arnhem's GelreDome, a massive arena similar to Dusseldorf's Esprit but unlike Dusseldorf Arnhem is easy to get to as you can board the train straight from Schipol Airport and shouldn't take more than a hour between journeys.
Rotterdam is my other alternative choice to host as the Ahoy Rotterdam has previous experience with hosting an Eurovision event (Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007) also it has these interconnecting halls which could be utilised to facilitate the Green Rooms, Press Centre, Interview Areas and so on and with the largest of these halls being a capacity of over 15,000 spacing certainly ain't a issue and rather conveniently you can fly straight there as Rotherham The Hague Airport is served my many airlines and cities and also is significantly cheaper then flying into Amsterdam like William stated.
Even though I do think that Amsterdam would make a good host it would just be to hectic to organise with that many people and so many other high profile events going on within the city at the time Eurovision starts.
Just my two cents what do you think let me know in the comments below.

Anyway, I totally agree with William. Rotterdam is amazing. Gorgeous city, great places to wine and dine, water taxis, skyscrapers, multicultural, art, architecture and so on and so forth. Even Deban will have a good time there. Perhaps a good theme for Eurovicion 2020: 'Open Your Mind'.... Or hahahaha 'Welcome the Sheep' or 'Welcome to the Country' .... or just 'Welcome to Village Life' :-DDD

I would choose Utrecht, venue can be the Jaarsbeurshallen, that venue is 5 minutes walking from central station, plenty hotels around the station, city center and in some nearby areas like Lombok and Nieuwegein, Utrecht has a lot of museums, great nightlife, the famous Domtoren, and from Schiphol it is 25 minutes by train without delay

Eurovision 2020 needs to be held in Rotterdam!!! It’s a modern city, it’s multicultural, it’s hip and the city had a big and vribrant music-scene and ofcourse Duncan originates from the greater Rotterdam-region! Besides the fact that it’s around the corner for me!😂 Love from Gouda!

Love love love you guys!! I don't care who hosts the 2020 Eurovision, my partner and I have already set aside two weeks for May next year and we're coming the Netherlands, regardless of which city is hosting it!! This will also be our first Eurovision that we'll attend, so we're super excited!! I think Rotterdam Ahoy is the place to host Eurovision 2020!! Yess Deban you even can come with a boat 😊. Ahoy has different area's so the main stage, the pressroom, greenroom etc, will be no problem at all!! I vote for Rotterdam!! So... LET'S DO THISSSSS

I used to live in Rotterdam, and I feel Rotterdam is waaay better equipped to host Eurovision. Its public transportation system is superior to Amsterdam's. Amsterdam is already packed with tourists on any random day off season (except Amsterdam doesn't really have an off season). Another important note is that the Ziggo Dome is right next to the Amsterdam ArenA, as well as the Heineken Music Hall and a major cinema, so security-wise it might be too ambitious of a task to ensure everything runs smoothly. Also, from Schiphol to Rotterdam CS is either 30 or 50 minutes (I checked) depending on what kind of train you take. So as William pointed out, it's not a hassle at all to get to Rotterdam, nor is it a big, ambitious project to take a day trip to Amsterdam. I get why non-Dutch people would be most hyped for Amsterdam, but objectively Rotterdam is the best choice.

Amsterdam is way too crowded and isn't the Netherlands anymore.
In my opinion the best choices are:
    1. Rotterdam: Ahoy is big and Rotterdam is a beautiful city
    2. Arnhem: The Gelredome is the biggest arena in the Netherlands with more than 30.000 places, and together with Nijmegen they have enough hotels etc. Besides that Gelderland is the most beautiful Provence of the Netherlands.
    3. Maastricht: beautiful city, beautiful surrounding nature and a respectable arena and Maastricht has its own airport and is close to Belgium and Germany.

Born in Fryslan (with capital Leeuwarden) it would be nice it if held there, but Rotterdam has developed itself the past tens of years into a very nice international city as well. Last year His Holiness the Dalai Lama came to Rotterdam and I prepared my brothers of an international monastery in the South of France (where I live since 2002) for a boring city. But they all were impressed and found it a very interesting city. I also was positively surprised. It has also international fame. My compliments, I am surprised how well you know our country, and find it interesting that you both have often different opinions, bring all kind of facts and arguments on the table, while keep being joyous. Chapeau.

I think it will be hosted in Rotterdam. The Ziggo Dome doesn't have enough extra spaces for the press and all other services. It's just a big hall. Ahoy does have all those extra spaces. And everone can fly to Rotterdam The Hague Airport.

Anyone who has been to the Netherlands has already been to Amsterdam. Let another region share the spotlight. The point of Eurovision is new experiences thru music. Rotterdam is a great cross border city with connections by sea, air, rail, and car. Ams is not that far by train for Deban's parties, you can buy a country day pass its so easy to get around and base for day trips in Neth and Belgium.

As a Dutch girl from Leiden (right in the triangle somewhere in the middle of Rotterdam and Amsterdam) I agree with William. I get Deban saying that Amsterdam is more well known and it's our most famous city, everyone already knows Amsterdam. Everyone has seen pictures of the canals and the houses about 3 million times. Not to speak about museums and everything. It is already drowning in tourists so that could be a problem when it comes to airbnbs and hotels. Rotterdam is a very well known city internationally as well and it has been announced as the European capital of the year just 4 years ago. There is a great venue (Ahoy), plenty of hotels, a vibrant city centre, a lot of clubs that could host Euroclub, it is a great mix of old and new and it is definitely big enough. Space wise it isn't even that much smaller than Amsterdam. So to me it is the choice between the obvious and well known Amsterdam and the breath of fresh air Rotterdam.

I agree with William. There is more to the Netherlands than only Amsterdam. Yes it is a beautifull city but it's flooded with tourists every year, witch allready is quite a problem. I'd say that other cities in the Netherlands also have a lot to offer. You have to take in account that what you'd neet is a lot of space. We need a venue with a big stage, enough room backstage for 40+ countries to have seperate rooms and a place to have interviews and press conferencess and enough nearby oppertunities for hotels for the delagations, the press and the audience. It would be insane to only consider Amsterdam and not look at other oppertunities.

HI guys. Don't forget about Maastricht, they are going to be a very good candidate ! Close to the border of Germany and Belgium and not very far from France and Luxembourg and has a very international European spirit, not to mention the good food, friendly people and a non typical dutch landscape that is normally as flat as a pancake, but in Limburg, the province, they live between the hills . The treaty of Maastricht was signed here in 1992 , the beginning of the European Union as it is now and therefore directly connected to spirit of Eurovision of bringing countries together ! They have a capacity of 30.000 seats, so we might be in for a surprise ! :-) (living in Amsterdam here and hope they will organize it here though ) ! :-)
