    Hello Gadget John! I am recently subscribed and wanted to let you how much I like your clear and concise explanations. As an American, I sometimes have difficulty understanding every word of some folks in the U.K. that talk very fast and pronounce and/or use certain words very differently than we do here in the States. I have no problem understanding you and your manner of speaking is very pleasant. You always get to the point and are very knowledgeable and prepared. I am now convinced to buy a DJI Osmo kit for myself! GREAT JOB AS USUAL!

    yes l have just ordered one myself with the Expansion kit at £99 which save you £39 on the total items, l also had a discount of £15 from buyng a mavic 2, which made me feel bit better, buying the expansion kit together with the Osmo pocket also saves you postage, because if you buy the expansion kit by itself it would be under they free post, which starts around £120/30

    If DJI truly listened to their users they would have offered a MicroUSB connection for it by now rather than relying on 3rd party companies to make it. I bought myself an Osmo Pocket + Accessory kit + Extension handle for Christmas not knowing that I "have to have" a cell phone before I can Activate the camera. Without being able to activate it I can't even take a video with it. But.. DJI did start my 2 year warranty I paid extra for.. before the camera was even delivered to me. Like every other DJI product I've purchased in the past, this one didn't neglect to be extremely frustrating, a major pain in the arse, and require 3rd party additions to get it to work (which I haven't actually accomplished yet.) I have a feeling this will be my last DJI product I ever buy.

      Nothing was happening for me too until you detach the wheel accessory. Then you wait a few seconds and try and find the blue screen connection page and it worked. They do not make it easy they try and sell you stuff on the MIMO app more than help you. It should not be that hard to connect the bluetooth so they screwed up there.

    Buy a cheap fishing pole (loads on e-bay) and you should get over 20 feet in the air using the thickest joints of an 8 metre pole. There are longer ones but prices obviously increase.

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  5 років тому

      Fishing rods are far too flexible compared to most monopods, your video would be vomit inducing swaying around, the fishing poles seem to be expensive too by comparison.

    • @coleorum
      @coleorum 5 років тому

      @@GadgetJohn Fishing poles are much more rigid than "rods"". I have frequently used a DSLR on a tripod head at a height of 15 feet to shoot panoramas using the bottom sections of a pole. It is only the top joints of a pole that have much flexibilty. Some anglers use 13 meter poles which would probably have sufficient stiff sections to keep an osmo pocket steady enough for photography at 30 feet. An 8 metre pole can be picked up for under 30 quid though the price shoots up for the longer ones. Find an angler who uses a pole and you will see the potential for getting things in the air relatively cheaply.

    Until they fix the focus pumping problem, I am not interested in expending more cash for accessories. The wheel is useless, it should have been a joystick. The wireless module should have included a 1/4"-20 socket on the bottom.

    Well, with all the add ons it no longer fits in your pocket. I would opt for the Gopro Hero 7 Black anytime. It fits in the palm of your hand, easily in your pocket, the footage is just as stabilised , the screen is larger and it is waterproof too. In fact, I sold my Osmo Pocket to buy the Hero 7 and I am happy that I did.

      Both products are fantastic, but they do different jobs. They’re cameras and that’s where their similarities end, the osmo pocket is a prosumer filmmaking tool and the GoPro is an action camera. Having both at your disposal would be the best option 👌🏻

    • @washingtonsmythe2
      @washingtonsmythe2 5 років тому

      @@GadgetJohn Thanks for the reply. True. Yet most reviewers compare the two cameras. It is as if the barely hidden agenda is that DJI is aggressively trying to throttle Gopro. They put out the Mavic to beat the Karma and in that case the Mavic easily and clearly deservedly won. I have a Mavic and love it. With the well timed Osmo release we have this UA-cam fed battle between the two cameras. I respect how you have not joined in.

    So something named ‘Pocket’ now seems to have outgrown the storage area it was intended for. All of these accessories could have been built-in - wi-fi, a tripod thread on the base, a mini-thumbstick (or detachable one ) - instead it’s extra cash for more items to carry and potentially lose. That’s either ill considered design work or a cash grab.

      @GadgetJohn  5 років тому

      Everything you see fits perfectly in my pocket still, even the pole and phone holder. I think it’s great and the ability to choose what to add on is also great, but until you get one you’ll not see how small all this gear is.

    • @DaveBowman
      @DaveBowman 5 років тому +1

      Gadget John You must have some damn big pockets then! 😅 I have a Pocket, so I’m fully aware of how small it is and how DJI are also just cashing in with these accessories. I’ve been using DJI equipment for years and the formula from them is consistent - sell a semi-crippled item then wade in with the accessories to make it what it should have been in the first place.

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  5 років тому

      I think we all have deep pockets to buy their gear 😉 As a tech reviewer I can say that 99.99% of all tech made isn’t perfect on day 1, thankfully though it’s perfected via software updates over time.

    • @DaveBowman
      @DaveBowman 5 років тому

      @@GadgetJohn I think that's a valid comment for software (although DJI gave out pre-release versions with D-Cinelike and then removed it from the release version, which in a way is false advertising). But for hardware there's no excuse as that's all pre-planned. I firmly believe DJI work to maximise every single tiny bit of profit from their loyal customers at the expense of device integrity. You can pretty much bet that any accessories you buy now won't be compatible with the next version of the Pocket. Time will tell ;)

    The more you add, the more un pocketable it looks. In the end, if it starts to cost more than a regular gimball with DLSR or a Gopro with extras, this DJI Osmo Pocket does not look like a good preposition anymore.
