Cool adventure. I love bike packing.
Pro tip for to dry gear over night, without morning dew wetting it all up.
Get a tiny tarp. 4x6’ should cover your bike. Set it up like you would over a hammock. But do it about a foot or two over your bike and gear. Guy it out. Hang your gear on your bike just like you did, but with the tarp over it, the dew will rest on the tarp instead of your gear. The breeze will dry your shirts & gear.
Also, backflow your sawyer every time you get home, it will never be clogged and lasts forever. I’ve had the same sawyer for 5yrs without fail.
Awesome video. Keep on adventuring. Can’t wait for RAD!

I’ve been several hours deep in the woods to have my sawyer fail. Scared me half to death. I just squeezed really hard since I was using smart water bottles and it finally started working. I check mine before every trip and always backwash them.

Did you try back flushing your filter? I back flush my sawyers regularly and I’ve never had trouble with flow. I’ve been using the same two for several years now. Pro tip: a sport cap on a smart water bottle will seal tight enough on the tip of a sawyer to back flush it.

I have toured on a bicycle but have gotten out of it. I am massively susceptible to heat exhaustion. I use panniers on a regular bike, non-electric. I carry massive amount of water, 2 stainless 39 ounce filled with ice for all day and refill them from 2 49 ounce plastic bottles. I will refill once or twice all of that as well on an all day ride. I have passed out from the heat, I've almost gone down on the bike from the heat, and a friend almost crashed me when he dumped his 8 hour old water in 97° heat because it was like an ice knife drilling into the back of my neck when he thought I looked hot so squirted me, LOL. That's like dumping ice water in the radiator when you're car is overheating, not good, LOL.
I do have to fill the gut with ice water every hour to keep my body cooled down. I'll chug one of the stainless as they are filled with ice once an hour and refill it with the plastic bottled water.
With the water I carry, my bike for a week long 400 mile or so ride weighs about 110 lb. Just a regular cheap Giant Escape hybrid, not even a touring bike let alone electric. That thing has carried me and my gear from Pittsburgh to DC, Across NY, all over central PA, and circumnavigated Lake Ontario. Hell of a bike, couldn't have asked for more for a $600 bike.

I ride a fat tire bike with no e-assist, and I’m in way worse shape than you. There are two critical factors to consider with fat tire bikes, with a third bonus tip. I’m not trying to convince you that you’re wrong, but if you ever decide to try it again, these tips will help you have a much better time on them.
1- Cheap bikes have cheap bad parts that aren’t as smooth or easy as better quality parts. It’ll add up to a lot more effort to pedal. Sorry, you get what you pay for. Almost all e-assist fat tire bikes fall into the cheap category, because they’re using the fat tires as a gimmick to make sales, not building a bike designed to work well with them. Some people will disagree with me. That’s okay, they’re just trying to justify their purchases to themselves.
2- Tire pressure is EVERYTHING on a fat tire bike! When maximum pressure is 20psi, just a 2psi change is 10% change in effort! 2psi on a tire that takes 60psi max is a rounding error. So, play with your pressures until you find what’s right for you. Start at 20psi and bleed off until it’s comfortable without robbing your energy. Ballparks are 15-20psi for hard smooth surfaces (pavement, hard pack gravel), 10-15psi for hard rough surfaces (mountain bike trails, loose gravel), and 4-8psi for soft loose surfaces (snow, sand). The correct pressures are absolutely critical for an enjoyable experience.
Bonus/3- Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Take your time. If you average 15mph on a regular bike, plan to average 10mph on the fat bike. You’ll run an easier gear and it won’t be so hard to pedal, but you won’t go as fast, either. It’s still 2.5x faster than walking! Fat tire bikes require a change in mindset.
Hope that helps some folks have more fun and less struggle on their fat tire bikes. I’m a believer! 🙌
