Growing up in San Diego I was able to watch the best hitter in baseball for 20 years. R.I.P. Mr. Padre Tony Gwynn

What a fun season. That's what made me a Cubs fan. Watching all the games on WGN, they had alot of characters on that team.

Among the biggest regrets in my life is not being into the Cubs, baseball and sports in general during the time of this game in May 1984. I was 10 years old in 5th grade growing up on Chicago's west side. I was into morning and daytime cartoons like He-Man, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Voltron, ROBOTECH, etc. As a 10 year old, I was into many of the night time sitcoms and even soaps like Dynasty, Knots Landing, Dallas, The Colby's, Miami Vice, Hunter, The A-Team, etc. It wasn't until the fall of 1985 when I got wind of the Chicago Bears and the amazing and dominating Super Bowl run they were on and all the cast of personalities and characters they had. After the Bears won Super Bowl XX in late January 1986, I wasn't gonna miss anything else that special again with the Cubs, White Sox or Bulls. In 1986, I learned of what happened to the Cubs after winning the old NL East, reaching the postseason for the first time since 1945, up 2-0 on San Diego in the NLCS only to collapse at Jack Murphy Stadium in 3 straight heartbreaking games. The 1986 MLB postseason gave me a taste of what the Cubs heartbreak was like in both the NL and AL LCS involving the Angels, Red Sox, Astros and Mets. And ultimately the Red Sox heartbreaking collapse against the Mets in the World Series.

I believe the only game I was at the entire 1984 season. I was 13 and saw Garry Templeton and Steve Garvey arrive at Wrigley by cab that morning. If I had only known 😄

I love these classics. Please add ANY San Diego Padres television broadcast from 1977-84. I've been searching for earliest televised Padres broadcast and only one vs Pirates '81 is earliest.. ANY Mets,Braves,Reds, Giants,Dodgers, Phillies broadcast vs Padres from the 70s or early 80s? Please add to archives for fan viewing. That would be a treasure

Harry saying the Padres catcher's last name....
    "Gooooosh"
    (In the first inning)
By the eighth inning hed be saying "gooo goo lash " or some other total butchering of his name lol.
The Bud would be taking full effect by then.
