In 2020, I had went through a very difficult situation that changed my life forever. My mom passed away, the very next month I was s*xually assaulted by someone I believed was my friend. My boyfriend at the time dumped me because of that (he was very religious, not an excuse but HIS excuse) and everything was falling apart to me. Taylor dropped this album 2 months later and I truly believe her music saved my life. I listened to folklore and specially this song on a loop for hours and hours cause my heart and soul felt nothing but pain, and this album gave me the hope I needed. Folklore is a masterpiece that you can listen to in any season, but it just feels more special when it's raining outside and you're playing this album while slowly sipping hot cocoa beside your window, pondering about what has been and what could be. Happy anniversary to Grammy 2020's Album of the Year, and actually one of the best albums of all time.
If her 1st album was Innocence, Fearless was Self-Discovery, Speak Now was Bravery and Breaking the mold, Red was Crimson Passion, 1989 was Reinvention and Youth, Reputation was Fiery Rage and Revenge, and Lover was Inner Bliss, Folklore is Melancholy...
“don’t want no other shade of blue, but you” love is a double-edged sword- letting someone into your heart would also mean giving that ‘someone’ the permission to break it too. in this case, you’d rather feel that much pain and sadness with the person you truly love rather than letting just anyone to try make you feel happy. and probably, that is another hoax you’re trying to avoid for yourself. in short, just try to avoid an internal hoax with another hoax! hahaha.
Everyone is like this album is for bed time or a rainy day with a cup of coffee in your hand.... But man, how come i am listening to this every minute of the day since it was released
"stood on the cliffside screaming "give me a reason"" "pulled the car ff the road to the lookout, could've followed my fears all the way down" these hit home so much.
This album shocked me. I'm not a Swiftie, I only listened to her few songs I can count it on my fingers. I didn't know she could write this layered, detailed, beautiful, mysterious, heart-touching lyrics. I agree that this album should be awarded. Hands down one of the best album I've heard by far. Wow!! I'm blown away.
"You know it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart" This line hurts damn much if u have been a swiftie from the beginning of Rep era.!!
@@jillevans7059 I feel like all 3 songs are lyrically "sad songs" but all too well has kind of a climactic ending, compared to last kiss and hoax which both have this really melancholy feel through the whole song
"you knew it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart" 😔😔😔😔. I'd love to hear Taylor explain exactly what her thinking was behind this song. It's dark, disturbing and extremely sad. I can't stop pressing repeat.
Even though its framed as romantic, I believe its about Scott. This song heavily relates to MTR which is about him, and frames Taylor's sadness for what he did to her.
Guys it’s more than just the Kimye scandal, it’s every scandal in general and constant drama and stress from the public eye! It’s the full reality of what being famous is! Her faithless support (first time listening don’t judge me) is her fans! It’s really quite beautiful, and amazing that she is even able to put this kind of stuff on the internet really!
the lyrics hit differently when I listen to this song in the middle of the night, this song suddenly becomes more appealing than when I listened to it in the morning.
I like the aesthetic for this era, it seems to match how the album sounds. More wilderness and nature which goes along with more stripped songs. The production is amazing, but it is different from much of her past albums. It’s so vulnerable
A co-swiftie friend of mine sent me a video of him singing this. Now he passed away. Whenever this song plays, I remember him. "You knew it still hurts underneath my scars" James, I hope you're happy now in paradise, your voice will always be remembered,
Hoax: Don’t want no other shade of blue than you Lover: My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue Paper Rings: I’m with you even if it makes me blue Afterglow: I blew things out of proportion, now you're blue London boy: And you know I love Springsteen, faded blue jeans Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince: We’re so sad we paint the town blue Delicate: Oh damn never seen that colour blue Dancing with our hands tied: Deep blue, but you painted me golden Gorgeous: Ocean blue eyes looking in mine Red: Losing him was blue like I’ve never known Everything has changed: All my walls stood tall, painted blue Dear John: You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain Tim McGraw: He said the way my blue eyes shined
This song is truly close to my heart. For me it means, "Give me a reason", to take a leap of faith on the Cliffside. You know this person is going to be your ruination, you know what the ending of the movie is, as stated in exile. But you wouldn't take the pain and blues for anyone but them. And that's the beauty of Taylor's lyricism. Everyone can relate to it, but in different ways.
The lyric about standing on the cliffside is much darker than that. In This Is Me Trying, she talks about pulling her car off the road to the lookout, and possibly following her fears all the way down. She was considering taking her own life at some point, and was looking for a reason to be convinced not to do it.
@@upscaleavenue yes, I remember. Admittedly it has darker undertones, but my point was that everyone can interpret the lyrics in their own way. Like paintings in art galleries, its upto the perciever to guess what the painting means to them.
I think that this song is the response to champagne problems. Like the line “give me a reason” connects to the other song’s line “and I couldn’t give a reason”. I imagine this song as the groom is standing on the cliff after she rejected him contemplating whether or not he should jump, thinking about all the things he had done wrong and thinking about why she said no to his proposal

Folklore is a masterpiece that you can listen to in any season, but it just feels more special when it's raining outside and you're playing this album while slowly sipping hot cocoa beside your window, pondering about what has been and what could be.
Happy anniversary to Grammy 2020's Album of the Year, and actually one of the best albums of all time.
i was thinking the same!!
Taylor : Not a lot going on at the moment
Also Taylor : Hey guys here's my new album♥👏
Yeah....True Surprise...🤗😂
4/27 : not a lot going on.
7/24 : drops the new album.
7+2+4 = you know it. hahah
Not a lot going on at the moment = 8 words, ~ 8 letters of folklore

“don’t want no other shade of blue, but you”
love is a double-edged sword- letting someone into your heart would also mean giving that ‘someone’ the permission to break it too. in this case, you’d rather feel that much pain and sadness with the person you truly love rather than letting just anyone to try make you feel happy. and probably, that is another hoax you’re trying to avoid for yourself. in short, just try to avoid an internal hoax with another hoax! hahaha.
interesting explanation omg

Woah this is deep
I've just noticed how her voice kind of breaks at 2:43, like she really feels what she is singing.. It's roughly beautiful.
Everyone is like this album is for bed time or a rainy day with a cup of coffee in your hand.... But man, how come i am listening to this every minute of the day since it was released

These songs are all stories Taylor said she had imagined during quarantine. Taylor's imaginations are really wild and deep. I love them.
she didn't imagine the stories. what she meant by that is that she imagined the lyrics, meaning she imagined the metaphors

one thing i really admire about tay-- is i can really feel the pain in her song without hearing curses lyrics.

That’s one and only Taylor swift. No one can beat Taylor swift❤
"You know it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart" This line hurts damn much if u have been a swiftie from the beginning of Rep era.!!
Even more so if you’ve been a Swiftie since Fearless.

OMG exactly!!!! 🙌🙌🙌
I love last kiss ❤️😭
This whole album is exquisite and I found myself saying “wow” out loud 20 million times at the genius of her lyrics alone 👏🏼💎🌪🌊
Exactly. This is a LYRICAL masterpiece. She keeps on proving why she's where she is now. She's outgrowing and making herself better EVERYTIME.
Mirrorball and hoax is the most underrated song on this album
aggreed
Seven is more underrated
@@TayTay299 I agree Seven makes me feel nostalgiac for a life a never had.
Epiphany too!
"you knew it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart" 😔😔😔😔.
I'd love to hear Taylor explain exactly what her thinking was behind this song. It's dark, disturbing and extremely sad. I can't stop pressing repeat.
Somebody really hurt her during the Kimye drama and when everything was going on. Maybe not someone she would expect to backstab her.
Yes, perhaps the person she was with at the time, or had just left...
I think it might be about Karlie Kloss's betrayal...

Cruel Summer: And it's new the shape of your body, it's blue the feeling I've got
Hoax: don’t want no other shade of blue but you
It’s actually it’s new the shape of your body. AND it’s blue the feeling i got. So she is feeling blue. And the shape of the body is new
Joe=blue
Damn I got to that part when I read your comment
Diana Itzel Hernandez oh my bad. I’ll change it. Thanks for telling me!
don't want no other shade of blue but you. no other sadness in the world will do.
she writes her songs with a beautiful eccentric solemnity
the lyrics hit differently when I listen to this song in the middle of the night, this song suddenly becomes more appealing than when I listened to it in the morning.
same here!!
Whenever Taylor sings the color blue, I smile internally.
Blue means to things to Taylor: sadness or Joey's eyes.
Its probably going to be the name of her next album.
Like I thought it would be next after lover, but folklore is here.
Why?
I like the aesthetic for this era, it seems to match how the album sounds. More wilderness and nature which goes along with more stripped songs. The production is amazing, but it is different from much of her past albums. It’s so vulnerable
A co-swiftie friend of mine sent me a video of him singing this. Now he passed away. Whenever this song plays, I remember him.
"You knew it still hurts underneath my scars"
James, I hope you're happy now in paradise, your voice will always be remembered,

Listening to folklore is like "damn this woman has her own genre"
EXACTLY
petition to classify all music in this style as "folklore/evermore" though then again evermore has entirely different but the same vibes??????
i love how this whole album is simultaneously something brand new and also reminiscent of all her old albums.
Hoax: Don’t want no other shade of blue than you
Lover: My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue
Paper Rings: I’m with you even if it makes me blue
Afterglow: I blew things out of proportion, now you're blue
London boy: And you know I love Springsteen, faded blue jeans
Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince: We’re so sad we paint the town blue
Delicate: Oh damn never seen that colour blue
Dancing with our hands tied: Deep blue, but you painted me golden
Gorgeous: Ocean blue eyes looking in mine
Red: Losing him was blue like I’ve never known
Everything has changed: All my walls stood tall, painted blue
Dear John: You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain
Tim McGraw: He said the way my blue eyes shined

Blue ain't my fav color but I like seeing it in her songs
i think u made ur point Taylor´s fav colour is blue!
"Stood on the cliffside screaming give me a reason" just broke me 😭💔😖
This song is truly close to my heart.
You got it! and the trip Betty took getting here is painfully awful. What a beautiful album/story...
@@trushitadeshmukh8349 Definitely. That's the beauty of Taylor's songwriting.
