IM 42 years old. I started looking for something like this video at the age of 41 and a half. This morning I woke up and I had a feeling that today I would find what I had been looking for for a long time ... I made coffee and started searching. And, Oh!... God sent me your video. But seriously, I actually searched for a very long time and I am extremely happy that I found it. Thank you very much! I apologize for the mistakes, as I translated through Google translator. But! You can be sure that a beginner carpenter from Moscow wishes you excellent health and good mood!
That's fantastic! I've a pile of boards I need to make the same thickness for some pallet decking. Was going to hire a thicknesser but after watching this I'm making for sure. Thank you 🙂
Ce système peut servir de mini raboteuse, mais ne permet pas de dégauchir une planche déformée. Je ne doute pas que vous allez trouver un montage qui permettra de faire une dégauchisseuse. Bravo, j'aime ce que vous faites.
Mdf good and flat but not durable like hmr, i rcomeded if cant found hmr you can use mdf but give extra protection like paint or clear on surface for give extta durable

1:22 what the heck kind of inaccurate cut was that why did the whole table move? Seems like your fence isn't properly parallel and it's pinching the wood?
I have so many concerns about this. When you adjust for thickness how do you know all four side are the same? The headaches that this would give me just to get it set up.
i add bold on back thickness, see on video this is bold for guide, but this system cant work if your wood really bend, if the case like that first you must use jointer
Also note that it's a very bad thing to start your first pass in thick planer. By first you want a couple of reference orthogonal and flat surfaces. So this means that if you start without precision, your final work will never be precise. These two reference faces must be obtained in a jointer table, not in a thick planer.
i combine plywood with HMR coz not all plywood on my country good quality almost all bend, not like HMR that why for precision jig i use HMR, this is diffrent type MDF and HMR
You weren't very clear on how deep you routed the base plate. I only figured it out when I saw what LOOKED like 9mm on the ruler of the square, but the real reason this would work is because, at the beginning, you have used an 18mm thick piece of MDF. The 9mm worked out because the plate was also 9mm. But, to be clear - To rout out to the correct depth, I think you would need to measure the thickness of the board, subtract the thickness of the planer back-plate, and then set your router to the DIFFERENCE. This will prevent a big headache for those people using MDF that is in inches, not millimeters.
@@plywoodworking Let's say that the thickness of planer plate is 10mm. If you use the planer plate thickness to set your router bit, and rout out 10mm from your MDF, you will only have 8mm of thickness left in your MDF, which is too thin. You were fortunate that your planer plate was exactly HALF of the MDF thickness. It was 18mm, you routed out 9mm, and you were left with 9mm. To correctly set your router bit depth, you have to take the thickness of your wood, and subtract the thickness of the planer plate. That will leave you with the bottom of the MDF being exactly the same thickness as the original planer plate, which is what you want. In my case, I routed out 18mm MINUS 10mm, and set my router bit to 8 mm. I was then left with 10mm of MDF, which is the exact thickness of the planer plate I am replacing with the MDF.

Do you ever adjust the cutting depth on the planer?
@JoshuaRicks-t5l yes if need i will adjust, better use low deep
This is my next jig build. Another great idea and executation. I was looking for ideas to do exactly this. Great job!

Depth of cut = MDF thickness - planar plate thickness. Easy, cheap and practical. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Many thanks mate, that jig save for me lot of money. Now I don't need to buy thicknesser which is realy expensive and lot of them is rubbish.
Glad I could help, thank you

yup, you right this is simple solution for fast planer small wood, if more wider or free maybe use router. thank you for suggestion
Nice idea.
Have you thought about converting your jig into a planer sled?
That is what I am going to do with my electric hand planer.
That would be cool!
Very different to make sir 👀

This is what I need! I wish I could buy HMR lumber for certain projects but unfortunately there are no store in my area selling them😩
Yes you right maybe HMR not available on all country coz this is new material upgrade from MDF
@@plywoodworking do you think mdf is a good choice to make this jig or what other material you would use instead?

Maybe, when mdf is the only material available, using laminate on it would make it more durable.

sir what is HMR?.,is it different feom melamine board?
High Moisture Resistance, new material more flat and durable.
