But, the fact that missingno exists indicates wasted space, it’s been proven that the missingno are actually johto Pokemon (not 100% sure if it’s actually johto), the way this is discovered is by finding a way to force a missingno to transfer into another game, where it will use the extended Pokédex to find out it’s another Pokemon (I think Lugia), the fact that they left useless data in there shows that there was some laziness, they really could have used that space for the rival battle, but then again, the fact that they had useless data clogging it up makes it even more impressive

So if he ends up, say, getting wiped nearly-clean of his Pokémon from a particularly difficult fight he'll need to replace FIVE members, and have none of them be duplicates for in the future, or previously used! I definitely can’t wait for the rest of the episodes to this series. I’m really curious which Pokémon you use for each game especially when it comes to things like starters in remakes, etc
if I had to guess ahead of time, he's planning on using things like Mystery Gift, Pokemon Channel's Jirachi, and so on (assuming they work as early as first pokemon centre) so although he'll be forced into a fight to start the game, he can instantly "lose" the pokemon, and not break the rule. let's go Eevee he'll have eevee, and let's go pikachu, he can use the pokeball plus to get a Mew.
This is such a cool concept! A few days ago I stared to play through every mainline game but only doing one of the original games and the third game of the pair (ex: blue and yellow or gold and crystal) although not nuzloking it I am using no repeat Pokémon. Hope this series goes well!

This seems like a fascinating challenge! I’m prone to using my favorite Pokémon in games when they’re available, so maybe I should try this sometime to mix it up
Is he catching the first Pokemon he encounters on the routes or is he not using that rule in this challenge? Seems like he gets the exact Pokemon he needs each time.
I was wondering the same thing. I checked the description for his rules, and it says catching “one” Pokémon per route not the “first” per route… so take that for whatever it’s worth lol
Well for gen 1 with red, he somehow did not get a route 2 pokemon I think. Ok so what I mean is from pallet town you get access to route 1 and route 2, after that is viridian forest and the city Brock is in. So either that he did not mention Pokemon he caught but did not use, he KO it, he saved and reset until he encountered the pokemon he wanted, or just kept running from battles until he found the pokemon he wanted. Seriously so for the tunnel/cave you can get Geodude, but it is not as high percent as getting Zubat. Also Pidgey I believe is not as high chance for encounter on both routes 1 and 2 because you have better bets getting a Rattata. In Viridian forest you literally can not walk into grass without encountering a bug type. So either the forest was not counted because he does not consider a forest as a route or he KO it on purpose.
I feel like this is something that should’ve been explicitly clarified in the rules. It doesn’t make it less interesting to me, but when people think nuzlocke they think you’re catching the first on a route.
He mentioned in the safari zone that tauros was somehow the first encounter and that he wouldn't pass it up, so that sort of implies to me that he was seeking specific pokemon and not just the first encounter
Thats the first video i see from you and i must say i loved it. Not only is it unique, the way you are talking is very engaging. Keep up the good work.
Without even watching this challenge seems impossible. With Red Blue FireRed and LeafGreen. You are gonna be forced to repeat a starter and therefore fail the challenge.
Maybe it sliped over my head, but was you choosing the pokémon? Weren't it suposed to be the first one that appears? Or Are Paras 100% encounter on that part of mt moon and you used repel? Otherwise it would be a zubat garantee on that cave
Yeah, he pretty clearly chose pokemon. Not that I can really blame him, since there are....seven Gen 1 games? This variant of nuzlocke was about planning, and that's cool
@@kyleellis1825 i would argue that Nuzlockes have three core rules: 1) only one encounter per route can be caught 2) if a pokemon faints, it dies and you can't use it 3) you have to nickname your pokemon it's not "only the first encounter" its "only one encounter"
@@torazely No, that's a modification made by many people. Species clause is also another modification. But the base rule is 1st pokemon per route. Have you actually seen the first Nuzlocke comic(with the Nuzleaf named after John Locke from Lost)? It lays down the rules for them very clearly. People can call us gatekeepers all they want. But we aren't telling anyone they can't do a nuzlocke. We're just being very clear what the rules of them are because it seems a bunch of people have no idea where the challenge originated. A speedrun challenge/no item challenge/etc are all just as interesting and worthwile. But they aren't nuzlockes. This series isn't random and I haven't seen anything die in 3 videos. The death aspect of the challenge was integral to the origianl challenge. This is not a Nuzlocke when 2/3 rules have been broken/bent so far they may as well have been. Hell, the Nuzleaf the challenge is named after dies about 1/3 of the way through the run. And they caught several duplicate Zigzagoons that first run. I've seen people alter rules so they can't have a pokemon faint until it's caught up to the lowest level pkn in the party. This is cutting it close, but it's still a nuzlocke. I've seen people only nickname things when they put it the party (usually after they have already caught 10 pokemon.). This is still a nuzlock. It's still a nuzlocke if you use the species clause. It's even still a nuzlocke if you only get one encounter on a route. But you can fail encounters, none of these encounters got failed. To much of the random aspect has been taken away for this to truly be called a nuzlocke anymore. And again, I've already said that this is just a hatelock. Hatelocks are just playing through multiple pokemon games without using the same species again. This is a series wide hatelock and it is an incredible achievement. It is not a nuzlocke.
17:20 "It's time for the first of *39* final battles..." 39? There are currently only 34 main series pokemon games. What others are you going through? For now I'm guessing Colosseum, XD, Legends: Arceus and Scarlet and Violet when they come out. Either that or you misspoke which is understandable, but I'm really curious nonetheless. Edit: He's doing Colosseum so I assume he's doing the others as well.
For these encounters, are you choosing your encounter on each route or did you grab the first available pokemon per route and just get lucky finding a Paras?
I doubt it - surely no way to get paras before encountering a zubat so technically this isnt a nuzlocke.... unless theres a trick used for each encounter
Sorry if i missed it, but what are you gonna do when you cannot use starters anymore? For example: BW B2W2 are 4 games with the same starters, can you then not use the starter in 1 of them? And if you would not evolve a Pokemon like Pikachu, are you allowed to use Raichu later? Or is the entire evolution line then banned?
I noticed you had other pokemon aside from the ones you actively used in your team. So does that simply mean that those caught pokemon don't apply to the nuzlocke that carries over into the other games?
I wonder if the game progammed the potion in for Giovanni because it was in the second town in game. So it thought the highest healing at that time was a potion. Just a theory! Great video!
Out of curiosity, are these just lucky encounters or did you select your encounters? (Obviously, this doesn't make the challenge less impressive either way, just curious
@@azurewaltz2203 It's still a nuzlocke just one rule slightly altered. A nuzlocke is essentially "faint=death, loss=restart" the rest is just tacked on to add extra difficulty or a bit of flavor to it (like the name rule, it don't add difficulty it's just there for a bit of flavor); which the extra rules you can follow or not depending on preference as long as your not like putting it on a leader board or anything like that, it's just for fun so there's literally nothing wrong with altering the unimportant rules
I don't really have anything to add, but I hear comments are good for the youtube algorithm, so here I am. Been subbed for like a year and a half so glad to see there's still interesting series going. Nothing worse than finding a channel with a good series (Professor Oak challenges in this case) who then end up posting nothing interesting again. Glad to see that's not the case here. Definitely going to be interesting to see BDSP, since the elite 4 is notably harder than previous games, and you'll be locked out of a good amount of encounters by that point. There'll either be some clever routing to end with the mons that would help the most, or lots of gen 4 sacrifices in the late game. Oh and really minor thing, might be nicer to swap up the color coding for the levelcap/pkmn used/attempts and pokemon party background boxes to match the game you're playing. I know it's all 3 games in the one video but with the color coded games at the top of the sidebar it looks like independent challenges per version. Should only take 2 fade transitions at most in any video and just helps neaten it a little. Means I can scrub through the video and tell if I'm looking at red/blue/yellow at a glance, along with the progress on pkmn used.
I remember thinking about doing a run just like this at one point but never committed to it. Glad to see someone do this type of Nuzlocke. It looks like a lot of fun.
im definitely very excited for this series!! and i have to say, i absolutely love the layout, it's super pretty. im almost as excited to see the layouts on the next videos as i am to actually watch them hahaha
I know gen 4,5 and 6 is gonna be insanely fun to see. The remake games and see how you handle yourself. I was gonna ask since I might have skipped rules. Are you counting regional variants as seoarate pokemon or not?
Quick Question: is this a entire series Nuzlocke? Like, if you were to white out in Black 2, do you restart with Red? Or do you just restart Black 2? Because in the later games there would be the added pressure of not wanting to have to replay hours and hours of all the games you already got through. It seems like an interesting possibility for an extra rule.
Honestly, super pumped to see someone doing this challenge series. So interesting to see all the planning! I subscribed literally just for this. Maybe I'll check out your other stuff. :)
phenomenal series thus far. something im confused about tho...is he choosing which pokemon gets for his encounters or is it still up to random chance with the first encounter?
I believe it is still random chance! However, my guess is that if he has already encountered that pokemon before he will simply continue finding pokemon on that route until he gets a pokemon he hasn't gotten before.
Thats a dope idea! However I wonder, how do you get each encounter that you need on each route? isnt it supposed to be that you only can catch the first encounter on the route, ordo you have a manip for that? Either way, amazing idea, cant wait for more!
Because of the species clause of his run (aka no repeats) he changed it from "the first pokemon in each route" to "only one pokemon from each route." Meaning he can chose which pokemon he catches, even if it's not the firstm
First video I've seen from this channel, coming back to watch it a second time. You just earned a sub good sir. Can't wait to watch the rest of the series as it goes up.
This is a really fascinating concept but you kinda lost me with all the pre-planning. Taking out the "FIRST Pokémon you encounter per area" part of the rule really diminishes both the most enjoyable aspect and all the actual challenge of a Nuzlocke run. This is NOT a Nuzlocke, it's a basic Pokémon run with potential perma-death.
I hope you don't forget to count your HM mules Oddish (Red) and Bellsprout (Blue) and Charmander (Yellow) in your total PKMN Used number going forward. According to nearly every Nuzlocke Ruleset I've ever seen or looked up, HM mules are STILL counted in your captures. Even if they aren't "on the team" you should still identify them, mark them off, and not use them in future games.
Considering nuzlocke rules are entirely community-made and the only real forced rule is "if it's dead it's dead forever + 1 catch per route", HM mules are as fair game as items in battle or no level caps. You may not like them but they're not rules.
You're right they aren't hard rules but even in the rules he put forward in the video and on the video, no mention of HM mules and if he's going to make a decision not to count pokemon count, only used in battle, then it should be noted somewhere instead of ignoring it. Saying no duplicates (dupe rule for hard-core nuzlockes which DOES have more rules) means that there needs to be clarity on the use of pokemon NOT on the main/final team. In theory, he could catch an HM mule, never talk about it, use it in a battle and decide to use it on the team in a future game because it's better than anticipated, and it wouldn't be faithful to the specific challenge he put forward. All I'm trying to say is if you are going to do a cool challenge like this, rules need to be crystal clear so it can be repeated.
I'm still proud of myself for coming up with this idea for you lol. good run!
Really?

Evil teams are harder though. Before it was just like 6 pokemon that 4 teams of evil people used (excluding boss pokm).
Rival 6 is programmed with the same items as rival 1A so that’s why he has potions

The luck you have is incredible getting Paras in Blue and encountering 0 Zubat. And getting both Mankey and Nidoran in Yellow and encountering 0 Ratata or Spearow on those routes at all.
probably saved and loaded until he got them
The rules say one catch per route, but not the first catch. I thought that was odd too.
@@lovepooky Ahhh that makes this whole thing so much less impressive. He's essentially just playing through every pokemon game without repeating using pokemon instead of actually nuzlocking.
@@piousmage9583 "Nuzlocking" is a very loose concept. Level caps and not using items in battle aren't strictly nuzlocking either. But it would be really boring to just watch him grind to lvl 100 for every game.
And if you want to watch the version of this where he doesn't pick the encounter he needs, good news! You actually can watch that version. Simply watch this video until he enters the cave with zubats. Then stop watching the video. Because that's as far as the series would get and lose because of bad RNG. So you can enjoy the series you'd prefer right here.
@@Winasaurus How is that the end of the series? He doesn't have to use Zubat on that run. Catches Zubat or gets lucky and gets to Paras.
Then above Misty's gym has multiple chances for a Bellsprout which can beat Misty just as easily as Paras can.
Not only that but it's Gen 1 Lanto which throws such ludicrously broken tm's at you that you don't even need a Grass type to beat Misty. You can run Raticate or a ton of other mons.
Same with the chances of getting either a Mankey or Nidoran when using dupes.
On top of that you say that Nuzlocking is a very loose concept which is very true. However from the very first Nuzlocke onwards there has been 3 core rules.
1: If your pokemon faints it's dead and you can't use it anymore.
2: You can only catch the first pokemon you encounter on each route.
3. Nickname your pokemon.
From the start those have been the 3 core rules of what a nuzlocke is. This planning stuff goes against what is the core of a nuzlocke.

I gotta say, I have been watching your content for quite a while. But this series definitely showcases how much you have grown and "leveled up" (pun intended) as a content creator. I look forward to the subsequent videos. Keep up the good work man!
Dude, the amount of work and planning for this must have been insane

I hope he saves gyarados for usum, or those games are gonma be rough😆
This is how I want to watch nuzlockes honestly. Puts an interesting curve on a strategy that seems like everyone is doing.
This is such a cool concept! A few days ago I stared to play through every mainline game but only doing one of the original games and the third game of the pair (ex: blue and yellow or gold and crystal) although not nuzloking it I am using no repeat Pokémon. Hope this series goes well!
Can’t wait for Johto! This was an entertaining watch, to be sure.

Really like the idea of condensing everything within one video. As I have done this before with races, but then it really becomes movie length. Really like this style!
I am genuinely so hyped for this challenge. I am tempted to do a lesser version of it using one game per release instead since I don't have as much patience as you.
It you do end up doing this, i reccomend using the third game in each release; yellow, crystal, Emerald, etc.
@@endarus6053 i think he means duel games, eg: Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, FR/LG, etc. So one of the games in those pairs, and the singular release games.
I didn't realize how clever the "no repeats" rule was until I remembered that this was indeed a set of nuzlocke runs. Great idea man!
This series is such a cool idea, I'm pumped to see the rest!
Ya know since you mentioned being allowed to evolve a Pokémon into one you haven't used yet, that makes eevee extremely good for this challenge. Gives you basically 8 games worth of a good Pokémon to use.

@@lrose5522 Thanks for getting to the bottom of it for us :)

"I'm gonna be completing the entire mainline Pokemon franchise in chronological order with two catches."
Sounds like the hardest Nuzlocke ever tbh 😂
I really love this challenge!! I usually only like randomizer nuzlockes, but this challenge is made more interesting by NOT being randomized.
Good luck! I started this challenge back early this year. It has been a lot of fun so far but takes a ton of planning. Especially in remakes.
He's prob ignoring that rule of nuzlock. Nuzlock is actually a grab bag of rules to make the game harder. His rule basically replaces it
Yeah, he pretty clearly chose pokemon. Not that I can really blame him, since there are....seven Gen 1 games?
This variant of nuzlocke was about planning, and that's cool
@@boserboser6870 Nuzlocke has 2 core rules. IF you change those instead of adding more rules, it's not a nuzlocke anymore.
@@kyleellis1825 i would argue that Nuzlockes have three core rules:
1) only one encounter per route can be caught
2) if a pokemon faints, it dies and you can't use it
3) you have to nickname your pokemon
it's not "only the first encounter" its "only one encounter"
Dude I remember when you had like no subs, your content has massively improved in what feels like a short amount of time. You deserve the success.
Thats one of the most creative things ive ever seen for a nuzlocke. Holyyyy. K respect the huge effort you put in here.🙏🏼
Are you choosing your encounters? That feels a little different than nuzlocke, i mean your rule of no repeats might be the reason why
I really like this series so far! Just saw one of your newer posts...and decided to begin from the start. You've earned yourself a sub! ♥
For these encounters, are you choosing your encounter on each route or did you grab the first available pokemon per route and just get lucky finding a Paras?
I doubt it - surely no way to get paras before encountering a zubat so technically this isnt a nuzlocke.... unless theres a trick used for each encounter
@@friedbutterbees maybe he used repels unlit he got to the paras floor?

I think you have figured it by now but in any case, he says in the FAQ in the description that encounters are chosen.
@@buenvidanadz1969 That really makes the challenge feel disingenuis. Nuzlockes are about the random factor.

@@azurewaltz2203 Yeah I agree

He’s playing with species clause across all games.
Man, Geodude and Gravaler's sprites were stuff of nightmares. Not to mention Crobat's from Stadium
The real nightmare is the Red/Blue Golbat sprite.
I remember thinking about doing a run just like this at one point but never committed to it. Glad to see someone do this type of Nuzlocke. It looks like a lot of fun.
I am intrigued to know what's gonna happen for the remakes re starters. Will you just box them instantly and pick up someone else?
I guess so, probably why he didn’t pick up rattata so he can utilise guts rather than waste the encounter on a gen with no abilities.
im definitely very excited for this series!! and i have to say, i absolutely love the layout, it's super pretty. im almost as excited to see the layouts on the next videos as i am to actually watch them hahaha
I know gen 4,5 and 6 is gonna be insanely fun to see. The remake games and see how you handle yourself. I was gonna ask since I might have skipped rules. Are you counting regional variants as seoarate pokemon or not?
Gotta be honest, this was the last place I expected to have scarlet and violet spoilers

This series is about to rock lol, pop off Chaotic
Thats a dope idea! However I wonder, how do you get each encounter that you need on each route? isnt it supposed to be that you only can catch the first encounter on the route, ordo you have a manip for that? Either way, amazing idea, cant wait for more!
Because of the species clause of his run (aka no repeats) he changed it from "the first pokemon in each route" to "only one pokemon from each route." Meaning he can chose which pokemon he catches, even if it's not the firstm

This is the coolest run idea I have seen yet and as we all know there are ALOT
SInce Charmander is a starter and the HM users weren't even mentioned it's safe to assume they don't count.
Not even gonna lie, I've never seen any of your videos until now and I would of actually loved a movie length video for this challenge.
