100% agreed. Listen to the random riffing we get from James sometimes during live shows, he’s absolutely got plenty more heavy rock riffs in him

Load and Reload are both so well-rounded, dark, moody. It's hard-edge enough to be heavy, but the emotional journey they take you on is indescribable. The production is impeccable from my standpoint. The mix in my opinion is some of the best they've ever done, much thanks to Bob Rock. There are lots of kick ass tracks on those records. Watching James' interview on Fan Can VI, when asked what song he is most proud of. He proceeds to name Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, and Bleeding Me as top 3 candidates. I don't blame him, they are definitely more 'Metallica' songs than anything else as James likes to say, like many others on these two records. Metallica make music for Metallica, no one else. I'd kill for another Load record, it would bring me right back to my childhood.

I grew up on hard rock before I started listening to thrash metal.
It's the reason why I can enjoy every type of album Metallica puts out.
I have been listening to this band since 2021 when I was 17.
I am turning 21 next week and I still love them.
Also without Metallica, I wouldn't be so deep into thrash metal.
And while I am biased to underground thrash nowadays, I still love mainstream rock and all of Metallica!

72 and hardwired has a few Load era style songs on them both. “Sleepwalk my life away” “am I savage” “innamorata” “the lemmy song” they could all be on Load or Reload in my opinion… I personally like the heavy fast shit.

I love ALL METALLICA ALBUMS, do you know why, because it defines the time they wrote it, they felt it. I don’t want 40 years of AJFA, or MoP., like some people do.

Slayer has a problem where they make the same type of album over and over throughout the last few years.
I hear people complain about them lacking diversity and being boring.
When Metallica tries something different it gets shat on and they get called sellouts.
All I can say is that no matter what you do, you can't please everyone.
I am speaking from my experience since I love every main Metallica album with AJFA being my most favorite one.
I don't really like Slayer because of the boring-ness.
And I know crazier thrash bands that are BETTER than Slayer

I ❤ _Load_ and _Reload._ I think their next album should be like those two albums. It should be in Eb as well because, so far, James Hetfield and the band have been performing their songs in that tuning, for James' voice is much more comfortable in that tuning.

Great video Matt. I think Metallica needed Load and Reload to get to where they are today. Metallica never wanted to be another AC/DC or Iron Maiden or Slayer. Just pumping out the same general stuff each album. That is why they are by far my favourite band. Testament comes a close second though. I really hope that they don't go back in that direction purely because I hope that chapter is closed. I have really enjoyed the direction that they are going in. Death Magnetic, Hardwired and 72 seasons have really recaptured they're song writing genius. Load and Reload are great albums but they need to stay in the past in my opinion. I would love to see them bring out another Master of Puppets or Ride The Lightning, but we all know that ain't going to happen. If Metallica did that, the haters would just grow exponentially. Not that it bothers The Four Horsemen!!! Cheers mate. Love the content!!!

I always thought that Load and ReLoad, guitar wise, were very Groove Metal influenced, as wad the Black Album. Simplified, bluesy and sludgy.
Metallica's albums usually sounds different from the next, guitar sound and production. However, Hardwired and 72 Seasons, although 7 years apart, sound very similar.

It's funny, that you call those people "The Metallica Fans", when they're not the real Metallica fans, they're the metal elitists with a stick up their arse. True Metallica fans appreciate every era of the band. And while I do agree with you, and I would very much appreciate another Load-style album, which fits their current era more, I also can't help but think that the end is not too far down the line, and I would reaally like another death magnetic-style album, with a production more reminiscent of their 80s albums; kinda like what Testament is doing at the moment. I have to believe that they have 1 more in them.
Although, with 72 Seasons being less heavy than Hardwired, it's really looking like they might be moving in a more load-style era. I just hope we don't get another hardwired production for the 3rd time, they need to spice it up, especially if the next album will be their last, which is highly likely. Apparently, James has been writing a lot, but many fans have been prophesizing a country album from James/Metallica down the line.
On a side note, Metallica isn't the band to try new things anymore sound-wise anymore. Load got a LOT of undeserved hate for the style, St. Anger and Death Magnetic got hate for the production, so the Hardwired production was born, and because that worked well enough, they pasted it to 72 Seasons. So, them going back to Load style is unfortunately unlikely.
    But, who knows...
    I'm excited to see!

I saw James Hetfield do an interview with Reality Check TV, this was in 1997, he said that Load, Re-Load had been influenced largely by Black Sabbath. He wanted to make a Black Sabbath-esque album but, Metallica (paraphrasing here). You can view that on YT. Reality Check TV Interview James Hetfield 1997 (for refrence). People forget that after the Black Album, James and co had been burnt out afer a 3 year long tour, having been on the road from 1991-1994, they weren't as angry anymore -I guess the amount of income they generate from the Black Album, subsequent touring earnings had contributed to that moment of stability for them all. Not to mention that James realized after the Black Album they could release whatever style they wanted, the core of their fans would stick around, aka, they didn't care anymore about playing thrash metal, also because with Cliff saying something along the lines of; "playing whatever they want, even if a track doesn't fit within the speed of thrash metal songs", hence why you got Fade to Black, Orion etc, it allowed that mental switch after Bob Rock encouraged them later to absorb everything music wise, let that influence their creativity, it allowed Metallica to evolve. If they kept playing the same as the first four albums, they would have exhausted themselves, less tours would have happened, Metallica would have been a project, rather than a band. In many ways Load, Re-Load were an absolute blessing, reawakening.

Any Metallica made album after 1991 is just as great as the first 4.
I can't say the same for Anthrax.
That band died in 1990 with Persistence Of Time being the last great one before Joey Balladonna got kicked out of Anthrax.

Load / Reload / Garage Inc. was the last time Metallica actually played what and how they wanted to play, which is why IMO it's the last genuine Metallica we ever got. Everything since then has sounded forced, with the exception of a few tracks here and there. Bottom line: They grew up, while some of their fans didn't.

I mean, eventually age is gonna get to them so slowing down is inevitable. Going back to mid-tempo bluesier music will likely happen in the next 10 years, whether that means the next album or the one after that. But, whatever the case i prefer they lean towards the Black Sabbath-pseudo doom metal side.

Hell no I've been wanting a Load style album, which they have some newer songs that are similar to Load like "ManUnkind",Now That We're Dead","Crown of Barbed Wire", and hell maybe even "You Must Burn" there's probably another that I'm not remembering right now but anyway yeah... I've been calling for it since before HardWired came out in 2016 and they seem to have done a career retrospective in the last two albums of sorts,so hopefully now that it's done they can make a pure Load style album start to finish... only thing is,is if they can recapture what made Load such a masterpiece...it has to have that soul to it or i don't see how it works but I've learned to never underestimate Metallica 🤘😝🤘

I absolutely love the Load albums. I think those have some of the best overall writing that they've ever done. There's a few instances on 72 seasons that to me are very Load-like, they have that vibe, riffage whatever. And I think as they get older, they may have to, or want to start writing more stuff like that. Maybe writing slower to prolong their career (if they even still want to do Metallica, here's hoping!).
