- The R34 Skyline GT-R is a rare car here in Western Europe. You don't see them on the streets that often. But this one is even more exceptional! The particular R34 in this video started its life back in 1999 as one of the three official demo cars built by Nismo in their Omori factory (Japan). So that means there are only three R34 GT-R R-tune (type R1) demo models on earth! And this is number 001, with engine type R-1 and serial number 001.
Quote (GTR-Registry): "This car was the car used as Nismo's demo car for the R-Tune package and was featured at the same period in several GT-R magazines in Japan."
The car has been modified (with aftermarket parts) by the owner, though. The R-1 type RB26 engine now has an increased displacement of 2.8 L and puts out 695 bhp. To restrain all that power, the R34 has Ferrari (!) ceramic brakes in the front. Also, the car rolls on 19 inch Volk TE37 SL rims. See the full modifications list below:

!!-Update (May 2018)!! For the people saying this is car is a fake/replica: In the video it has a lot of aftermarket parts installed on it so that's why it doesn't look like a genuine R-Tune. However, recently I got the opportunity to record more footage of this car. Here's the thing: The car has been sold to a new owner. The new owner decided to rebuild the car with all the original Nismo parts (even the stock rims, twin turbo system etc.). My new video also shows the history of the car and the badge with the chassis number. Please watch this vid:

I think the only things that are not from the Omori factory are the brake calipers and the rims and maybe the badges are a little bit different
Pretty sure those are pre-production badges. They resemble the badges of the previous generations (the c10 had similar GT-R badges). It's running single turbo instead of twin turbo as the uploader wrote in the description.
What is meant by "1 of 3" is that Nismo made 3 demo cars with this engine, but were then sold to the public once the Nismo R1 Package had become officially on sale as a Nismo upgrade package. Hence, the UK having around 4 Nismo R1-engined R34 GT-R's and a couple of R1-engined R33 and R32 GT-R's. Not to mention the S1 engine as well. The same concept applies to this.

Hey, man! Yes, I wanted to have some footage of the engine bay so I could put it in the video. But unfortunately I didn't manage to do so. I saw this car twice at two different car events, but every time I was recording the car the owner wasn't around. And when he did show up, he left immediately (I guess he was in a hurry). So he didn't have time to open up the hood.
Luckily, a friend of mine did a photoshoot with the car. So I can show you some of the pics. There's also a picture of the engine bay! It shows the Nismo badge which clearly says "Type: R-1. Serial: 001. Omori Factory".

Lars Mars Cars I just made a channel , over this winter I'll be documenting a ground up build on an r34 gtr I recently acquired that has an Omori nismo r1 number 671. Not too sure how many r1 engines had been made( I was told 1000) but my block is serial number 00671 n1 block matching my nismo omori R1 plate on front. My car is not an r1, I bought the engine from an r33 so as for complete r1 chassis I'd love to know. Also having a hell of a time getting a complete list of what's in the r1 engine package as 99 percent of info is in Japanese online.

so tell me wars it stitch welded all over like the z tune all the r tune demo cars were stitch welded. you can still buy the r tune engine at the omori factory but in 2012 it has change to R2. the ferrari F50 calipers is sold as a nismo option to back in the daýs as nismo f50 brake kit but in gold with no ferrari logo on and whit steel discs

the R1 engine was a tune package for the rb26 offered by nismo and there wasn't any specific limited number of engines. I can assure that there are way more than 3 built them. and the only indication they had from the exterior is a small sticker on the trunk, and this car doesn't have, so it is questionable

it is a replica. z-tune was ONLY sold in a special gray color, I do not remember the name of that color. Front bumper also was different. Also the engine was marked with special badge and I guess it is grey or brown color.

Razor's Trio I never said this was a 1 of 3 Z-tune. It meant that this was one of three R34 GTR demo cars (test cars) that Nismo build in 1999 before they started to produce other models based of the R34. In the description of this video you will find a link to some pictures, also a pic of the engine bay (showing the engine badge you were talking about)

Ok I saw that engine bay, and it looks fake. Z-Tune does not have RB26 but RB28, from what I saw on z-tune's engine is no RB26 sign, also the colours.
Also Z-Tune is so rare, and it is collectioners car, so I cannot believe it is demo car. One of them was for sale for $510,000 and it is going up quick.
I guess it is only good replica, nismo badge can be made. I can be wrong, but this time I am pretty sure I am right.
Razor's Trio I don't know why you keep mentioning the Z-tune. The R34 in this video is not a Z-tune. It just has the aftermarket Z-tune body kit, yes. But it is not a Z-tune. It's a 'regular' R34 GT-R that started its life as the very first R34 demo test car for Nismo when the R34 first came out.

Actually there were only 18 Z-Tunes sold to the public, as the remaining two are prototypes. P-001 is on display at Nismo's Omori Factory, and P-002 had the "Z1 Concept Engine" which had 600PS instead of 500PS. The colour of the silver is also called "Z-Tune Silver", or otherwise known as "Blade Silver" for other Nissans.

Not only the calipers, also the discs are from Ferrari. I'm not entirely sure why the owner did this, but I guess he wanted to have a good set of reliable ceramic brakes. Maybe there weren't any aftermarket brake systems available on the short term. And well, he made these Ferrari brakes fit on the vehicle, so why not, lol.

In total Nismo converted approximately 25 units (R34s) to genuine R-tune models. However, there were only 3 or 4 built as "R-tune Concepts", that they used for testing. The Skyline in this video is one of those (chassis & engine no.0001) . There is no such thing as Nismo R-Tune. Even if there was one it wouldnt have Ferrari calipers. The fastest Stock Nismo Skyline is called Z-Tune and is 500hp from the factory with rb28 engine. Which is a 2.8l rb26 basically.
Ermm, yes there is. Did you read the description? There's also a link to some pics where you can clearly see the engine badge saying "Type R-1. Serial 001". And I never said the Ferrari brakes came stock on this car. That's just something the owner upgraded himself. There are a lot of aftermarket parts on this car.

Demo cars R1? haha, never heard that, there weren't any demo cars b4 producing a Nismo R34 GT-R Z Tunes. They get a 21 stock R34 V-Specs then rebuiled them for a Z-Tune Specification.. Besides, you have no proofs this is an "R1 Demo" car, it just looks like heavy modifed Skyline V-Spec II nur with hakosuka "GT-R" badge, ferrari brake calipers (wtf) and without showing the enginebay lol, who would still modify an Demo car or a tuned car by factory? something's not alright, also only Nismo Omori has Demo Cars in their factory..

The owner seems like a straight up guy. I don't think he's gonna lie about that. But hey, demo car of not, it's a 650+hp R34 GTR.

Every dude can put into his 34 a GT-R Style Body kit with Z-Tune front bumper etc. but doesn't means that is a demo car or Z tune. Yeah I agree R1 is rare asf, anyways with 650HP, if you are interested i can send you fanpage of some R34.. which has also a rare engine called a S1 (my fav one) it's also rare, made only 100 in Nismo factory.

R/S tune came before the Z-Tune and most of the Z parts were developed when working on R and S. They were also not stripped down and reinforced with carbon like the Z models. So a less extreme mod.
As owcarnia said, The Z-Tune had parts specially derived from the GT500 race series, therefore the Z-Tune's "Z2 Concept Engine" had the: GT500 block, GT500 cams, Gt500 pistons, valve guides, crank (you get the idea) as well as specially produced Nismo x IHI high response twin turbochargers which were never sold to the public; therefore the Z-Tune's engine was literally a road-regulated version of the racing engine. However, the R1 and S1 engines were using standard parts like the standard displacement and block, but had upgraded special camshafts, ECU, turbos and engine covers. The S1 was like a mild street version of the RB26, whereas the R1 was a mix between street and race. The S1 engine put out 400PS (395HP), the R1 put out 450PS (442HP), and the Z2 put out 500PS although the z-tune is rumoured to have much more than that :D
