This visualization is the fourth of a series depicting various OPFOR tasks for the Virtual OPFOR Academy. This visualization depicts an OPFOR guerrilla unit executing a reconnaissance against a mechanized infantry company screen.
This module is designed for company level units assigned an OPFOR mission during home station training. By the end of this module you should have an appreciation for the subtask synchronization for a reconnaissance mission.
The BLUFOR representation is only to provide context to OPFOR actions, and is not intended to represent current BLUFOR TTPs.

This OPFOR Training video is better than what is out for training our leaders.

This is a great video demonstrating 'reconnaissance in force'.

Yes, this is a true Reconnaissance in Force mission by the OPFOR, and this is also technically “Pull” reconnaissance. The mission is skirmishing to find enemy (BlueFor) forces, but not to shape a decisive operation.
In general, this is a good way to NOT do reconnaissance because once the enemy discovers, fixes, and moves on the teams, the reconnaissance elements will get wiped out, as they don’t really have a maneuver and direct action element. Further, whatever your reconnaissance assets discover is probably of very little long term or operational use.

What's the difference between cavalry scouts and mechanized infantry?

    • @smokeypuppy417

Cavalry scouts are the most forward unit andlocate the enemy and only engage when they have the advantage, mechanized infantry are there to go out and kill the enemy.

Depends on a lot of factors, mainly terrain.

Likely VBS3, which is the government version of ArmA. You'll notice a lot of recycled assets. VBS3 simulates certain things closer to reality-particularly with ballistic simulation. Some of the simulation in VBS3 is not allowed to appear in civilian versions of the engine, if I'm remembering correctly.
