2 Years after Shoulder Surgery

  • It's been a little over 2 years since I had my 2nd Rotator Cuff Surgery on my dominant (right) arm. I remember watching videos of other people who had had shoulder surgery as they recovered but after about a year I never heard how they were doing. I still get a sore shoulder if I've slept wrong or done too much, although I'm SO much better than when I was just a year post-op.
    Please watch my other shoulder surgery videos and follow my journey to recovery. I hope you find inspiration, ideas, and hope. Shoulder surgery is hard...very hard...it's one of the most difficult surgeries one can have. I did it twice, and on my dominant arm which was extra tough. I say all that to let you know that I've been there...I've gone through difficulty of all kinds and all phases. Send me a message...I'll get back to you. You are not alone. You will get through this.

    Hi Darcia, many thanks for the great videos! I'm scheduled to have RC and labrum repair next month, and not gonna lie... I'm so scared that I find myself randomly crying over my keyboard (I work from home). Nice to see you're doing well.

      My first surgery was for RC and labrum. I’ve been there! Hopefully my other videos on shoulder surgery will be helpful for you as well!

    I'm 2 1/2 weeks past the surgery on my right shoulder. Wish you had mentioned how you got along wearing the sling. The sling is hard for me to deal with - (interpret, I am not wearing it all the time). Wow, you are mighty easy to look at and listen to. Took some of the pain away just watching you.

      Thank you. Wearing the sling is hard for sure, but I did it because it helped keep my arm immobile. Best wishes to you as you recover!

    Thank you for the update!! Wondering how far after the first repair did it re tear and how? I am so careful maybe too much that I'm not using my arm like I should at 3 months.

      I’m not totally sure how it retore, unfortunately. It was about 1 year after the surgery. Hoping you heal well and soon.

    i just found your videos , i had reverse total shoulder replacement on july 8 , so i’m about 3weeks post op , i have had a prior major shoulder surgery many years ago and i basically got buy using all your tips , and now with this reverse replacement i am doing excellent , the ice machine is something i definitely would recommend it basically helps me better than any pain medication. my recovery will be similar but some differences to rotator cuff surgery , the hardest part is the waiting for the subscapularis tendon to attach and heal so i can then start a more aggressive therapy , but i want to say thank you for all the videos they are so helpful and made me feel more confident as i move forward

    Do you feel any crepitus or gritty sounds if you hang your arm and move at the shoulder?

      @DarciaDarcy  4 місяці тому

      No, I don’t. It pops occasionally, but there’s no pain.

    It was refreshing to see this update. Thank you for sharing! As I mentioned in another comment, I’m 10 days post-op and I’m at the point of feeling recovered from having surgery but feeling like a hot mess most of the time. Nothing is normal by any stretch and it’s quite the journey trying to figure out how to navigate life one handed! I’m super determined and your videos have been a source of inspiration to know I will get there. Thanks again!

      @@DarciaDarcysince i listen to you and it's been two years I just wondered if this is going to take more then 3 month for me to sleep normal. I wake up with my hand Nome and it hurts like by my breast side like is so tight. Just wants to know if it will get better?

    • @DarciaDarcy
      @DarciaDarcy  Рік тому

      I can only speak from my own experience, but shoulder surgery recovery took a VERY long time. I used the wedge pillow for probably 5 months post op because it was too painful to sleep flat on my back. I didn’t try to sleep on my side until almost a year post op. I wasn’t able to sleep on my stomach till almost 2 years post op. Now, I also was seeing specialists for the neuropathology and physical therapists for ongoing assessment. I would recommend you also get professional insight into your situation but if everything is looking benign, I would say to keep doing your therapies and know that it’s a really long road.

    I’ve been considering getting the surgery because my labrum is killing me right now. Thank you for showing that it gets better.
