    I love the concept but it would be even better if it had room for two? It would be twice as much fun if I could take someone along.

      Than you have to buy a Hobie Trifoiler, that one you can sail with two people…!

      Exactly what I thougt. Maybe in the future (:
      Seems like there is enough room in the the back for another seat, although it might mess with the weight distribution. Weight of a second person shouldn't be an issue if 70kg of water ballast is fine according to the video :)

    So its a Windrider Rave that was available in 2002, made of rotomolded plastic, sold for about $12k and had a design speed of 26knots and a recorded maximum of 42 knots. Oh and could foil with a second person along for the ride. Used the same joystick control. They were a lot of fun.

      Exactly!

    • @ferdinandc.ashley814
      @ferdinandc.ashley814 Рік тому

      It was a boat ahead of its time built with the wrong materials and without a full understanding how to make a stable foiler. The Rave trifoiler required 15kts of breeze with low chop to fly, so rivers, harbors, canals, and shore sided breezes only. It had a tendency to drag the sterns in the water due to flying control stability issues. It also had issue with the controls being fragile and the aluminum supported plastic hulls would split if left outside in cold weather. It was a cool idea, not as expensive, and again ahead of its time but it was less practical than what we are seeing above. Not many WRT's were sold but probably more than the VPR's that will be sold due to the high cost. A WR Trifolier would be $20K in 2023 dollars which is expensive for a single handed boat that was extremely limited in sailing areas versus the VPR at $75K in 2023 making it a toy for only the rich.

      @@ferdinandc.ashley814 the question of durability comes in and, over time, can things like 3d printing tech be applied to bring costs down and make it more affordable. In nz that is not likely bur then Rocket Lab is flying the first 3d printed rockets so....who knows.
