Man! I sure love a pianoless trio! Plenty of room for bass & drums to solo and interact. I keep coming back to this one.

David's sound is HUGE.....awesomely so. What a great tenor player he is and his Bass Clarinet is outta sight. Masterful playing on that horn.

Man, this rhythm section is incredible and matches David's style of playing perfect. Best music I've heard in a long time. Really fresh and my type of jazz. I love it.

IMO David Murray is very overrated player,I've caught him live and on records since the early 80's. His Paul Gonsalves tribute concert in Boston 20 years ago was a joke. His abililites certainly don't merit him having one of the largest recorded outputs of any Jazz artist of the last couple of decades. A media darling early on when over-hyping new young saxophonists as the 2nd coming of Trane was commonplace. As a player he is not even close a Gary Thomas, Branford, Potter. When the critics would place a Chico Freeman or Murray above a Brecker in the Down Beat polls I'd just sit back and say WHAT!!!

Brecker is the greatest Coltrane imitator that Jazz ever had. A huge embarrassment for Jazz. A true example testifying my statement the ballad book. The ballad what???? Brecker never knew how to play a ballad. Brecker is just a pyrotechnician, but musically none of what he played made any sence at all. Another embarrassment to testify that : Directions in music live with Roy Hargrove and Herbie Hanckock, the difference in class, style, pure talent couldn't be greater. I still wonder why Hancock and Hargrove accepted to join really! As for Murray clearly one of the greatest tenors of his generation. Listen to many of his DIW masterpieces (Tenors, Ballads for Bass Clarinets clearly evidencing if ever anyone listened seriously to the great Eric Dolphy, it's definitively Murray, Spirituals, Real Deal with the great Milford Graves on drums, the list goes on and on, his duos with Mal Waldron, Kahil El Zabar, not to mention his impressive Black Saint recordings). Murray is a perfect synthesis of influences way before bop and yes Gonsalves is one of them, but not the only one, and on the other hand Rollins and Ayler. But he made it pretty much his own thing. Branford absolutely top notch player, so is Potter but they are totally different, not to be compared with Murray. Although I would give a milliion bucks if Potter would make better records. Those ECM recordings miss the power he is showing on stage. Far "too nice and clean".

@@rinahall it's not my problem that you are deaf. Brecker hahaha what a joke biggest imitator ever. May his soul rest in piece, but he belonged in some episode of the Muppet show, really be serious here. And please don't compare apples with pears: Branford, Gary Thomas and Potter are totally different players. It's like comparing Hawk versus Prez or Rollins versusTrane, Dexter versus Hank Mobley ridiculous. Nevertheless they are all fantastic players without any doubt.
