    And the thing that is missing from all of these Bonzo Bash songs is John Bonham's right (bass pedal) foot. That magical foot is what set Bonham apart from so many other rock drummers.

    • @saltykrug
      @saltykrug 4 роки тому +1

      I read that Jimi Hendrix told Jimmy Page that his drummer had a foot like a rabbit. Carmine Appice rapped a shit ton of notes into Black Dog during one of these. The best I've ever been able to do with my right foot was while wearing slick soled boots and could do a 1 &ah, 2 &ah, etc pattern for covering The Trooper. I had just finished a short 3 year career of BMX and the leg muscle control carried over into drumming. The fact I kept riding a bike probably helped. That's nothing compared to what Bonzo ripped out of his foot. Most people won't turn their bass drum head as tight as Bonzo did either.

      It is funny because when you listen to the wanton song you hear Bonham playing a single bass drum like it is double bass 32nd notes at 111bpm and the guy from bonzoleum swares that Bonham isn't doing 32nd notes with his right foot but I've listened to it for at least twenty years and I Gaurantee he is doing a double 32nd note roll at 111bpm on there... with one foot and I can pretty much do it too after year's of training... not easy!

      the singer is better than Plant. They are all very good players. People are too critical of the drummers not having the same groove. Go fuck off people. At least they are alive. These drummers are successful and alive,. Far more than you can say about Bonham

      Stephen Edmunds interesting that you present this question. I have been asking the same thing as I’ve watched all the drummers in this series. As a HUGE bonham fan I appreciate that most of these drummers seem to share the same love for the greatest drummer of all time so I try to take it for what it is. but It kind of drives me crazy that none of the drummers seem to find the bonham groove. but let’s be honest, who can? You can practice bonham triplets but never find the groove. You might have “a” groove but not the chops. That’s what put bonzo into a stratosphere all to himself. He had them both and had it mastered by the time he was 21. I’ve been playing for 45 years and can never come close. I think most of these guys would admit the same on their death bed. But drummers are all full of themselves anyway. like appice, ward and Baker, all thinking they were better than bonham and wanting to believe they influenced him. Sure, he might have picked up something from them along the way but he created a style that could never be duplicated or replicated even by someone with the chops of a guy like Peart or the technique of rich. So, ya. I tore some of these guys apart in the comments section but in some cases I sent props to the ones I knew were honoring him with dignity and not just trying to show how good they thought they were. How’s that for a reply?

    The ONLY drummer I've seen/heard/perform at every Bonzo Bash that actually gets it and totally pays tribute to Bonzo - And HIS brilliant drum parts is TODD SUCHERMAN. To me, it's just disrespectful for all these big name drummers (and accompanying musicians) to make their parts "Their Own" while performing a TRIBUTE to the one and only Bonzo & Led Zep. Far too many guys just hack the essence of what Bonham brought to all of us. It's like hearing a voice impressionist do impressions of famous people and not even come close to replicating their voices. TODD SUCHERMAN gets it. He nails "Fool In The Rain" and does it justice. It kinda reminds me of one of my original influences - Neil Peart - trying to play a swing feel on the 'Burning For Buddy' performances. The guy's a ROCK DRUMMING LEGEND. Yet has no true swing feel at all. Sucherman is a 'one size fits all' chameleon type drummer - Dave DiCenso as well. I appreciate Tichy and what he does. He's a terrific drummer. But man.........I just wish all these drummers would truly study Bonham and execute his drum parts as they were played.

    • @frankspikes4867
      @frankspikes4867 5 років тому +1

      You have a valid point. Play the groove. But, if I want to hear a note for note replica, I'll just play the record, cd, youtube studio version of what I want to hear. What band do you know of that plays any song exactly how they, or the original artist recorded it? They don't. It's going to be different every time. That's the beauty of it. Keeps music entresting.

    I get it that Tichy is an entertaining drummer and he's a Bonham fan but his playing is nothing like Bonham. Bonham didn't bash the shit out of the drums and cymbals when he played. He had finesse. Tichy is off doing his own thing which is fine but if you're paying tribute to Bonham, I would think people would like to hear Bonham's grooves and fills. He's basically saying "We're gonna play Zeppelin my way"

      @@toddlavigne6441 Johny bonzo one of the, if not the funkiest British blues based drummers ever. Listen to led zeps entire body of work. Groove: he had it truck loads. Finesse, oh yes. The man had a cornucopia of variety. He could swing with the best of them. Not a genius? I beg to differ. Have a great day.
