This brings back memories of many recurring childhood dreams of finding an exoplanet that had loads of alien guinea pigs (or aliens that looked and acted...and sounded...and had appetites like guinea pigs) on it. The coloring is eerily similar. I had a huge wash of these dreams after my first pet guinea pig died where found him on that planet again. I've been subject to having these dreams again since my most recent guinea pig died (euthanasia) as well. I eventually would wind up desiring to stay upon the planet and refusing to be rescued (sometimes it resulted in me being outright kidnapped and taken back by force) and over time, the dreams lead to me turning into one of their own so I couldn't be taken away! I'm glad to be having these dreams again.
Makes sense, small mammal that could test life supporting systems on a spacecraft. NASA once planned to send several birds up on the space shuttle IIRC, but they abandoned the idea.
