      NOT ALL POLITICAL REPRESSION COMES FROM THE RIGHT, in fact, around the world: most countries (in number), and most humans (in number) have been repressed by the left. the use you make of the word FACIST does not seem to be correct, if you are talking about politics it would be assumed that the ideology is at some level related, but the ruling party in georgia has actually been moving to the left and seems to be aligning with the government in kremlin. it is possible you equate “AUTHORITARIAN” with fascist, they are NOT the same, AND for some political scientists (most?) they are used to describe very different realities… and yada yada yada, fascism is related to a cult of personality, which is clearly NOT present in this case… anyway, have a nice day.

    Why do people object to Ukraine and Georgia aspiring to join the EU?
    It's obvious to the majority of Europeans that the EU economic and political model has outperformed the Russian model for the last 30 years. It has over 10 countries with candidate status, including Serbia and Turkey. Look at Poland and Czech Republic, their standard of living has skyrocketed since joining the EU.
    What does Russia offer? Fear and autocracy? They certainly don't offer economic opportunities for young people.
    I don't see why Ukraine and Georgia should be expected to pretend that they want to remain within Moscow's sphere of influence.
    Despite this, there's ALWAYS someone trying to deny this reality. That Russia is wonderful and the EU is declining. That the West is aggressive, but Russia's invasion of Ukraine isn't aggressive.
    It's akin to holocaust denial.

      Russia does not want to let go of its influence-they need Ukraine and Georgia, and they need them to live worse. Another reason, which I think is not talked about enough, is this: does the EU even want Ukraine and Georgia? :( This thought makes me really sad because the EU isn't as welcoming as we'd hope.
      Ukraine makes up 15% of the EU's total area and has a population that is 10% of the EU's population. Now, you might think that this would be good for the EU in the long run and in a LONG run it is ... but it’s not that simple. Ukraine's situation and potential would make them not just an addition to the EU but its biggest competitor. We got a taste of this when the EU opened a route for Ukrainian flour to pass through Europe, and European farmers were outraged.
      And it’s not just about flour-there’s a lot more. The people of Ukraine are not afraid of hard work or competition, and their current situation puts them in a position where they’re willing to do things much, much cheaper. While the EU has long exploited Ukrainian people as a source of cheap labor, they’re not prepared or willing to compete with Ukrainians on equal footing.
      We’re already seeing some of this in Poland with Ukrainian immigrants who are opening businesses. These businesses flourish-they’re successful and profitable-but the locals hate that.
      The EU, made up of 27 relatively small countries, functions well as it is, but adding one big country into the mix-one with a lot of resources-might feel more like a threat than an opportunity.
      My parents, both smart and educated and very capable.. were picking strawberries in poland for pennies.. both russia and eu are screwing with georgia and ukraine and its sad! But yes the biggest thing for both of them is to GET out of the influence of russia and get corruption under control (which in part is due to russias mingling)!!

      As if Eric Holder’s actions as one of the most notorious arms-traffickers in government, never forget Operation Fast and Furious, didn’t already suggest that law and order were contemptuous obstacles that didn’t apply to progressive democrats, he’s come out of the woodwork to justify the Hunter Biden pardon, arguing that ATF Form 4473 is irrelevant and the explicit felony that accompanies “any false oral or written statements … with respect to [the] transaction” isn’t really chargeable.
      ATF Form 4473 is the form that every person is required to fill out when purchasing a firearm from an FFL, one which Hunter admittedly lied on when he checked the “no” box next to this question: “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”
      In January 2023, the Department of Justice, under Biden’s own Merrick Garland, issued a press release stating this: “Federal Prosecutors Aggressively Pursuing Those Who Lie in Connection With Firearm Transactions”. The announcement also included a list of individuals who had been sentenced or had pleaded guilty to lying “in connection with firearms transactions” … specifically on Form 4473.

    Tensions intensified in late October when Georgian Dream claimed victory in a contested election that was widely seen as a referendum on joining the EU.
    Georgia, which gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, has for years pursued EU membership, with the goal of joining the bloc written into its constitution.
    Most Georgians support the policy, polls consistently show, and it appeared to be on track last year when the country gained EU candidate status.
    But on November 28, the government signaled a pivot away from Europe in a move which sparked widespread anger.
    Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said Georgia would suspend EU accession talks for four years after the European Parliament rejected the country’s election results, citing alleged irregularities.
    The Georgian Dream governing bloc accused the EU of using the prospect of accession talks to “blackmail” Georgia, and to “organize a revolution in the country.”

Now, you might think that this would be good for the EU in the long run... but it’s not that simple.
    But yes Ukraine and Georia's life will improve so so so much once they GET OUT from under the influence of Russia, becouse that is where the coruption is steaming from its dragging both of these countries down!!!

    • @Gugner
      @Gugner Годину тому

      @@Curiousitydrive WRONG! The EU will welcome both democracies. The slow mode is due to EU being several sovereign states. We intelligent and well informed citizens DO understand, as we did 17 years ago, the havoc fascist Putin is doing. The reaction mode of some politicians is just toooooo slow.

    • @Curiousitydrive
      @Curiousitydrive 57 хвилин тому

      @ listen I really hope you are right! I am Ukrainian and more then anything I would want Ukraine to have peace and join Europe! But I see this dynamic playing out too, in news and from personal experience. Ukrainian trucks being physically stopped by European farmers and I get why they are upset too, they have families to feed too.. but during WAR time when Ukraine needs help and this is not about “charity” a lot of it is not allowing free market or trade with Ukraine due to market disruption.. “some”locals definitely feel the competition and they do not like it! And I know many many instances of this and we saw it on the news with European countries not allowing trade with Ukraine. I truly hope most people see the LONG term benefit and understand that yes it will take time to integrate and might get uncomfortable in the beginning and ultimately we all gain more and life in a peaceful democratic society.

    Days of protests have rocked Georgia following the government’s controversial decision to delay the former Soviet country’s bid to join the European Union.
    Tensions have been brewing for months in the South Caucasus nation of 3.7 million people, where critics accuse the ruling Georgian Dream party of following increasingly authoritarian, pro-Russia policies in a turn away from the West that has tempered hopes for Georgia’s long-promised path to EU membership.
    The protests have been met with a violent police crackdown as the ruling party and thousands of protesters become locked in a deepening battle over the country’s future and whether Georgia should forge closer ties with Russia or Europe.
