In every reaction video for this song, I notice the "reaction" on their faces when Neal plays the second guitar solo. He is sooo underrated! He was just left completely off Rolling Stone's Top 250 guitarists! Criminal! 90% of the guitarists on that list couldn't play Neal's solo's if you offered them a million bucks.
Everyone thinks that last string of notes he sings is an instrument until they see the video. This is I think one of journeys most underrated songs. Steve Perry said it was the hardest song he ever sang. Thank you for your reaction!
Absolutely one of the best songs and no question that vocal performance was as difficult as it was perfect. As a teenager I had many debates trying to convince my friends that those high notes were in fact Steve...when this concert footage became available I was proven correct...lol
@@LSwick-ss6nm I hear they still dub in Steve's high notes when other Journey singers can't quite get there. Steve could get as high as Freddie Mercury...check out Something to Hide, which is mindblowing. Mother Father is almost un-singable and Steve got it in a single take on the studio album.
@@marshabailey1121 I spent many hours listening to Journey as a teen. Something to hide is one of my favorites. Those soaring notes are amazing. The one he floats in the background of Wheel in the Sky during the guitar solo is equally impressive.
@@LSwick-ss6nm That note he hits and holds at the end, then comes of of with a little improvised phrase is absolutely mind blowing. Lots of singers claim to have whistle or scream notes. That was neither; he hit that note right in the middle of the tone (i.e. on pitch) and held it there, like any other note in the song. I haven't heard any male singer do that.
@@marshabailey1121 for sure he is an extraordinary vocalist. Most of the others who try have to really push to get the note and then have to either quickly trail off, turn it into a scream or make a vocal run down to a different note. The song is about a broken family - reference to alcohol - and the fight to keep it together. Masterfully written and performed to capture the mood of such a struggle.

Steve "Machine Gun" Smith one of the best drummers in the biz then and now. All 5 guys were at the top of their game back then. Great catalogue to explore.
The song is partially autobiographical on Steve's part. His parents split when he was a little kid, in part due to his father's "party behaviors". It was a huge blow to only child Steve, especially when he and his Mom moved in with his grandparents, who talked about how Steve was "just like him". Ouch! Oh my Dear Hap....I have sooo much to say. Steve Perry, the Lead singer here in Journey was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE until I became obsessed with Freddie Mercury and Queen. Steve is known as the “Voice.” He is no longer with the band, but has in the last few years put out his own solo album. I was lucky enough to see Journey in concert several times with Steve and with each of the others that took the role of lead singer. Steve is an amazing tenor voice with soul and ranks right up there with Freddie in his octave range. My 2 sons I believe came out of the womb singing Journey songs because their Momma had it so bad for them. I wish I had suggested you react to them before, but I will say that Journey is definitely another rabbit hole you might be interested in going down. The band started in the late 70’s and up until earlier this year was still touring, but with their lead singer, Arnel Pineda, from the Philippines as their lead singer. I would suggest you react to Anytime, Faithfully, Separate Ways, Anyway You Want It, Don’t Stop Believin’, Lovin’, Touching’, Squeezin’ and there are many, many more. Journey was famous for their stadium shows and rock ballads as well as just good old rock and roll. Neal Schon is the lead guitar player and I think is right behind Brian May in line for lead guitar players. I hope you can get a few more Journey reactions in. You may even have heard some of their songs and haven’t realized it was them. Enjoy!
Try John Farnham. He is also known as The Voice, in Australia. Look up his version of Help, or Please Dont Ask Me, or Forever Blue. Or, his live version of Cool Chang with Little River Band.
This song is about the pain & anguish of what could happen to a family being torn apart over alcoholism and fighting, all the while the mother's heart is broken from trying to keep it together. Not sure if it's about any particular family, or just in general what can happen. Journey was a big influence to Bon Jovi, as well as many other bands.
Me again, you are so right about their song’s being about themselves, they have had plenty of, I suppose you could call them life experience’s, Steve has never married, Neil is on his 4th marriage and Jonathan is on his 3rd or 4th marriage. The Drummer Steve Smith took his family on tour with him and he used to play in Jazz band’s but no one did rock drums better than Steve the Animal Smith. 🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
Not familiar with the band but loved the video, music and your reaction HAP! They remind me vert much of Queen, striving for perfection! 4 out of 5 sang where 3 out of 4 sang in Queen! After reading the comments they all wrote the songs together. And I saw that Tom was named second best vocalist after Freddie! I’ll have to listen to,ore of their music as it was great to hear! Love ❤️ from across the pond, Dee
Other great songs from Journey. There are so many just like with Queen.."_ Worlds Apart Separate Ways"_" send her my love" " Faithfully" " Anyway You Want It" I could go on and on... very very long but if you listen to the Escape album you'll get an overview. Freaking fabulous band and Steven Perry is a legend..
That was a heart wrenching song but his delivery was so full of passion. Nobody else can hold a candle to Steve. He was singing a song about a marriage lost and the mother felt she was hopeless. Listen better dude!
King James Version.. "I beheld Satan like lightening". " When lightening strikes the family, have faith.. Believe, I'm your Seventh Son" A Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is a very special person.. Listen to the song again and know he's speaking on a matured spiritual Christian level...
If they ever build a time machine, set it for Houston TX in 1981 and TAKE ME WITH YOU!

The voice again...
I love your channel
There are so many just like with Queen.."_ Worlds Apart Separate Ways"_" send her my love" " Faithfully" " Anyway You Want It"
I could go on and on... very very long but if you listen to the Escape album you'll get an overview. Freaking fabulous band and Steven Perry is a legend..
THE🎙 VOICE 👑STEVE PERRY.
Family that's dealing with Alcoholism
That was a heart wrenching song but his delivery was so full of passion. Nobody else can hold a candle to Steve. He was singing a song about a marriage lost and the mother felt she was hopeless. Listen better dude!
Please people, don't try this at home, more karaoke singers have died attempting to perform this song than any other!!

King James Version.. "I beheld Satan like lightening". " When lightening strikes the family, have faith.. Believe, I'm your Seventh Son" A Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is a very special person.. Listen to the song again and know he's speaking on a matured spiritual Christian level...
Do more Journey and I’ll subscribe ;)
