My friend had once done this to me and my jaw dropped straight down when he showed me the number, then i asked him how he did it and then he said nope not telling you! so then i saw this video and now i under stand how he did it! Thanks! : )
If you saw this without watching to the end of the video, then you are very observant (and I congratulate you). I have done this trick about 25 times in front of classes, and I have never had anyone observe that without being told. Well done.
Great video, this is a very clever and unexpected math trick. Your videos are fantastic. I will be looking back on some of your earlier work on factoring for an upcoming exam. You've taught many people a lot of math. Thanks
Don't be ridiculous, of course I cannot say "every" student was impressed. I did say that all the classes were impressed. Each class' reaction was one of disbelief, followed by "how'd you do that!". I then showed them the trick, explained how to tell others, and told them to pass it on. I'm sorry that I did not impress you, but then it's hard to impress someone so critical. Have a lovely life....
@Haelstrome : Yes, I have shown it to Grade 12 classes and my very good Advanced Placement Calculus class. You couldn't have figured out what I did after I had written the first number, because you didn't know what I was going to do. I think that you are being to critical, maybe it is the way you deliver the "magic" that makes it cool. Try it on a few people, see what happens. Just make sure no digits are repeated or in an obvious patter. Have fun, you're allowed to!
Yes it does. Every time I try it with a new class, and as a substitute teacher, I try this over 20 classes a year. I was also a regular full time teacher for over 37 years, and I tried it with these classes as well. They were all impressed, right up to grade 12 Math. I am sorry that it did not impress you (as you are obviously at a much higher level in thought as these mere mortals), but I will continue to use it with new classes I bump into.
Messed around with this, and I noticed that if you attempt this with the number 8 instead 9, you end up with an initial subtraction of 224 instead of just 2 (If you do this with 3 digits). But you still add the two in the beginning. The only problem with this way is that if your target puts a 9, you would have to do the math in order to make sure that the calculations are right, and often you will be using less digits than what you started with.
thank you so much Sir to reveal this trick actually I've been searching this method since I was 10years old. this method was shown by my tuition sir but he has not revealed yet.
Again, I am a Math teacher. The trick works through algebra, not any "fake audience". The three people who helped me out here had never seen the trick before. They were 11, 13 and 57 and were all quite surprised, so the sound track is real.
Yes, I added my own numbers, but in real time, each number I added within abut 10 seconds. If I knew the answer and was doing all the work in my head, I would be a genius at mental math. I have done this trick in front of classes of up to 30 students from grades 9 to 12 over 20 years, and NOT ONCE have they failed to be amazed, because I put my numbers down so fast that I could not possibly be doing it in my head. Watch to the end of the video to see how I get my answers so quickly.
The guy who made this videos grandaughter : hi, I was in the audience when my grandpa did this trick, and it was not fake. I'm 14, and quite enjoy math, and my grampa happens to be a high school math teacher and is very smart! so watch what you say! :)
you got it. well, x / 2 and then whatever steps I decide to add after it. The point being that the final answer has nothing to do with the original number chosen by the spectator
Actually the numbers can be anything under 10,000. However, if they choose a number such as 9,538 I would have to reply with 0,461 in order for the two to have a sum of 9,999. This seems a bit weird for a four digit number to start with a "0", so I try to get people to choose numbers less than 9,000 so this does not come up.
What part of the explanation did you not like. I am not going to tell students to "just subtract 2 to the first (one's) digit and make 2 your last digit (attach 2 to the front)" WITHOUT explaining "why" you do this. Thus, the explanation of 9999 is actually 10,000 -1 etc. Every trick that I explain, I also show the students "why" it works.
I know I shouldn't have made fun of the person's spelling, but I couldn't resist. Now maybe we could figure out that if a coculator did exist, what would it look like? Maybe a calculator shaped chocolate bar?
You're right, a fifth grader can do this trick AND wow his parents and classmates. I have shown this trick to hundreds of classes from grade 8 to grade 12, and they all are impressed. None have got the "trick" until it is explained to them. Try it. Now, if you make sure there are no repeating numbers and no pattern to the 4 digits, it is harder to pick out the solution.
Most people (including myself), could not figure out the result that way, in their head, that quickly. Watch to the end of the video to see how I do it.
No, if you did this trick in front of a class, as I have done, then people would see that. Watch to the end of the video and you will see how I actually do the trick
if someone doesnt like or isnt impressed by another one's trick, presented sincerely, it's better he just keeps silent. learn to behave and respect orthers' effort to share. be a better person.
If one of the numbers that the other person gives me starts with a 1, what number would I choose? Keeping in mind the numbers have to be under eight thousand? Thanks!
This is great!!! I did it to my family worked perfect :) one question what if the first number had a 1 at the end how do you subtract 2 ? Lets say the first number they give me is 3741 i would write on the other paper 2374_?????
I decided long ago that that word would not be part of my vocabulary, instead, I would look for knew knowledge and patterns instead. Try this trick with a class full of grade 9's or even grade 12's as I have, and you find it anything but the word that you have used. I'll really try harder to entertain you next time!
No, I don't need to do anything like that. I have done this trick in front of classes for about 30 years, and never needed to do anything but subtract 2 from the original number and place a "2" in front of that result.
My friend had once done this to me and my jaw dropped straight down when he showed me the number, then i asked him how he did it and then he said nope not telling you! so then i saw this video and now i under stand how he did it! Thanks! : )
weeb
Amazing. Thank you sir for a wonderfull trick. Hatts of you sir!!!
Are you alive
If you saw this without watching to the end of the video, then you are very observant (and I congratulate you). I have done this trick about 25 times in front of classes, and I have never had anyone observe that without being told. Well done.
thank you so much sir! even a legendary video after more than a decade!
Great video, this is a very clever and unexpected math trick. Your videos are fantastic. I will be looking back on some of your earlier work on factoring for an upcoming exam. You've taught many people a lot of math. Thanks
INCREDIBLE!!! 😊🤩❤🙌👏👍
Thank you so much Sir!!! ❤
Wishing you all the best!!! 😊❤🙏
What question are you looking at? Again, every time I do this in front of a class, I have kids who are amazed.
WOW! this is great... i tried it myself and it works! i'll gonna show this to my M&M's Club - Math Matters, an hour from now (y)
@Haelstrome : Yes, I have shown it to Grade 12 classes and my very good Advanced Placement Calculus class. I always loved that trick and always got a great response from the kids in class.
Great job . People that comment bad things are mean because u took urging time to make a video and all people do is slang you off
Finaly I can reveal my friends' magic trick... I just need a confirmation to reveal it....
Congratulations! I have done this trick 100 times in front of classes, and no one has *seen that right away". Consider your self, very observant!
Yes it does. Every time I try it with a new class, and as a substitute teacher, I try this over 20 classes a year. I was also a regular full time teacher for over 37 years, and I tried it with these classes as well. They were all impressed, right up to grade 12 Math. @meghanorlando. Thanks, for the pat on the back. Some people are way too critical of what is really a simple little trick.
Messed around with this, and I noticed that if you attempt this with the number 8 instead 9, you end up with an initial subtraction of 224 instead of just 2 (If you do this with 3 digits). But you still add the two in the beginning. thank you so much Sir to reveal this trick

superb
whoa, im trying to back you up here! lol
I actually appreciated the video and think that its cool :)
It doesn't matter what they say. As long as he gets to add the last number he can add it into the written down answer.
You can also do this trick with more/less digits just as long as they add up to nine
Thank you so much
You are very observant then. I have done this trick in front of classes for over 30 years, and have never had a student notice that.
Yes, I added my own numbers, but in real time, each number I added within abut 10 seconds. If I knew the answer and was doing all the work in my head, I would be a genius at mental math. that was great! i llove your videos you are realy realy helpful!!
Simply amazing, congrats!
Whoa! This is what i call an awesome math trick
awesome trick. you clearly explain the trick too. nice job..............
The guy who made this videos grandaughter : hi, I was in the audience when my grandpa did this trick, and it was not fake. I'm 14, and quite enjoy math, and my grampa happens to be a high school math teacher and is very smart! so watch what you say! :)
Excellent sir
My teacher showed me this at school it's so smart
That’s why I’m here I wanna know how
cool im gonna practise that and use it on my friends and family!
Thank you very much sir for showing this my friends were surprised.
Thank you!
I watched alll you have given to UA-cam sir
I like it a lot
you got it. well, x / 2 and then whatever steps I decide to add after it. The point being that the final answer has nothing to do with the original number chosen by the spectator
I paused it after the trick and eventually figured it out, but i must admit I was definitely wowed at first.
I'll be sure to pull this on someone lol.
I already know this trick but still cool.
me to

Thank very much
Amazing tricks... Thanks professor...👍👍
very easy tricks i knew this since i was 6 years old and im 37 ryt now..
what happens if there is a 0 at the end of the first number they right
Fun trick!
I love it! Thanks.
My coworker did this trick on me today and I NEED TO KNOW HOW!
He used 5 digits though
What part of the explanation did you not like. I am not going to tell students to "just subtract 2 to the first (one's) digit and make 2 your last digit (attach 2 to the front)" WITHOUT explaining "why" you do this. You're the reason we can't have nice things.
I like this trick! Good job minkusbc!
can you explain this using algebra though
Most people (including myself), could not figure out the result that way, in their head, that quickly. Watch to the end of the video to see how I do it.
Yup, if you go to the end of the video you see that explanation.
Wow, ignore those other tarts, this is great trick! I liked it! If you were my teacher, I'd have loved it!
@cucngu66. If you had 3 sets of numbers that added up to 9999 then you would subtract 3 and add 30000 by putting a "3" in front.
Nice explained in easiest way
Cool Trick. I like it. I think that is the best way to having fun with math. :) ♡♡
No, if you did this trick in front of a class, as I have done, then people would see that. Watch to the end of the video and you will see how I actually do the trick
this is great! thanks for sharing!
if someone doesnt like or isnt impressed by another one's trick, presented sincerely, it's better he just keeps silent. learn to behave and respect orthers' effort to share. be a better person.
math is my favorite science...
how does it work ????? ( our speaker is not working , I could not hear anything )
very nice sir
Really smart
This is awsome!!!!
gaben is that you?
if they tells you 9999 what you have to do then
+שון קריכלי lol. but you will be the one to ask me 9999
0000
You will get cough if you put 00000
then put nothing.
When I do this trick for my classes, I ask that their initial number has no repeats and no patterns, so I don't get a number like 99999 or 12345
You were the best sub ever!!
Incredible but what if the no. Is
2001
Great trick u r awesome
If one of the numbers that the other person gives me starts with a 1, what number would I choose? Keeping in mind the numbers have to be under eight thousand? Thanks!
give us some more tricks
SInce the number ends in 41, take 41 and subtract 2 to get 39. Thus the answer will end in 39 and should be 23739.
I been knowing trick for a long time but I do it with 5 digits number and it works.
weeb
This is great!!! I did it to my family worked perfect :) one question what if the first number had a 1 at the end how do you subtract 2 ? Lets say the first number they give me is 3741 i would write on the other paper 2374_?????
Subtract 2 from 41 to get 39: Final answer 23739
not loudly sir but I am soooooooooory that I tell you that
I enjoyed this! I'm terrible at math but think if you were my teacher, I'd be much better at it ^_^
Great
Thanks a lot
really cool trick!
If you went to the end of the video, or if you were the one in a hundred who observes the pattern of 9999 as the trick is unfolding.
it's a bit confusing, why did u add 20000?can we add aother number,like 30000???
Hi,
I learned it as a kid. I tried with 13 and 16 digits but I always mess up. Does it have to be less than 9 digits?
Nah
I decided long ago that that word would not be part of my vocabulary, instead, I would look for knew knowledge and patterns instead. Try this trick with a class full of grade 9's or even grade 12's as I have, and you find it anything but the word that you have used. I'll really try harder to entertain you next time!
It was a goid trick but how do we know it wasnt staged because tbe people in the background werent that exicited when he was done
Watch the whole video and I describe how it is done. I've done this with classes over the past 48 years, it always works, no need to stage it!
I used to do this trick all the time, except i did it with 5 digit numbers :)
Howw i try to do it but it didn't work with me . I tried 25 times and still she don't . 😡😡😡
Did you not watch the end of the movie, where I explained how I did it?
is it your own idea? if its not still great :)
nice majic
No, I don't need to do anything like that. I have done this trick in front of classes for about 30 years, and never needed to do anything but subtract 2 from the original number and place a "2" in front of that result.
tks for the tricks, sir... :)
My friend so much irritating me ask me the same question for so many times but I didn't answer thank you very much for this question thank you
Sorry: I did not reply. What was the question again?
Nice trick;
this was amazing
