- Border View Farms is a mid sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. We raise corn, soybeans, and wheat on a little over 3,000 acres.
My name is Nathan. I run this channel and farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. I get questions about how and why we do things on the farm frequently, even from my own family members, so to help explain things it's easier to just show you. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture in general as well as dispel some of the common misconceptions.
I hope you enjoy my content and please ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can.
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos.
You can reach me through messages on Facebook or Instagram @borderviewfarms or by email bakernth@gmail.com. Please don't call my parents house! - Розваги
Great ATTITUDE, more people need your kind of thinking, your being a Great guy, and also good mentor to other young and older farmers, AWESOME way to handle a Rough issue, good to see how you handled the whole situation, have a good one, BE SAFE!!😎✌️
Learning is what it's all about, and you're a good teacher. Brock was beating himself up enough, and the previous stuck story helped.
If you don’t get stuck you’re not farming. Good job Brock..
Nice video. I appreciate clean language when things go wrong.
This is where a good old fashioned cable comes in handy. Then again like others have said a yankem rope would be handy as well. Had to replace a windshield in a 7130 once because they used a chain instead of a cable.
11:46 Brock has the same face as a child who's been in trouble 😂😂😂
Yankum Ropes - Yankum Ropes - Yankum Ropes - I live by them, they are the BEST!!!!! Never has one failed me, but I have broken many chains!
Can't be mad at someone for getting stuck. Or get frustrated,it's part of farming
exactly.
Brock should blame you for not having borders on youre screen around that known swamp . Allways like farmer's pulling equipment out of big mudholes- great content.
Everyone has to learn where to go and not to go, keep up the good work, Brock.
you could have just hooked the big tractor on the front of the other tractor while trying to pull out the disc and tried it that way, but at least you got it out. Great video. I did give it a thumbs up.
Always one man's struggles are UA-cam gold! As much as your cashing 💸 in on this I think Brock deserves a raise 🤠👍
You said it GET the rope, Thanks for the great videos stay safe
We have had a cold wet winter here in South Georgia! I love spring time and planting season! Thanks for sharing!!
Maybe the Boss could have warned Brock about the wet spot, if for no other reason than he is new to the Farm. But then I remember several wet spots on My Dad"s farm he bought that appeared to have been farmed through and he buried a tractor in both of them. So it happens to the best of us.
Put a tire between the 2 chains for a spring and that will help, I have used a old semi truck tire,it works really well.
What a fun day of learning. Good video I’ve never had good luck with chains
That was impressive to put dry dirt in ruts and pull disk out. We have used excavater many times to get equipment out of mud. Time to invest in something other then chains. Great video Nathan. Same here green and yellow radar last night. Not a sprinkle. 👍👍
Maybe you should have cautioned Brock of that wet spot ? Lol
When I saw stuck tractor I tuned in to your feed. When I heard that your was farming in Berkey it peaked my interest. I am originally from Berkey. I remember your great grandfather working the ground with a John Deere crawler.
Good video. It should do well. Get ready for the Monday morning quarter back's telling you how you should have pulled that out. 😆
Every bodies gotta learn. It’s stuff like this that keeps you from doing it again. One of my favorite quotes, “experience is something you need right before you get it!”
Best first stick of the year!!!! Way to go Brock!!!! Ok need big Yankum and matching soft shackles. Maybe tile that wet spot?? Enjoyed!!!!
Good job Brock..
The engineer who came up with that filter is in a group that never has been in real world conditions.
I took a piece of steel plate i had in the pile and drilled a hole through it fir an air coupler. Four mor holes for straps to hold the filter on the plate. Engine intake side on the plate, strap it down and turn the air on. If you have a high pressure air system regulate it or you'll be buying a new filter as part of the learning curve. Works well on normal canister filters too.
Prefer the cable that has to be 70-80 years old that came from a drag line i think. I'm sure my grandfather picked it up when the dredged the creek in the fifties. The ropes aren't cheap.
Spot in the field bird sanctuary, a target for tile, or a trap for your boys when they start helping.
Haha likely a trap for my boys. It's a rented farm and would be an expensive spot to tile.
Nice video!i remember what my dad would say when i got stuck lots of working words
Great content. Thanks, Brock! Lol.
Famous last words "Alright, I think he can handle it!" 2:16 🤣🤣🤣
Tell Brock I used to be that farm kid. No sweat it like Nathan says happens. Live and learn you don’t know what you don’t know.
Put an old towel or sweatshirt and drap it over the chains. It dramatically slows down the velocity of the chain if it breaks.
Sad story, a local highway dept Supt is severely disfigured for life. Summary, they got a plow truck stuck, tried w/ chains to pull it free using another truck. Chain snapped, went through the windshield. It was after hours so the Man's wife rode along to keep him company. She was sitting next to him, in the disabled truck, when half of his face was removed. this is a gruesome occurrence, but it is exactly what might happen using tow chains.
If you run a piece of equipment long enough you will get stuck ben there done that. Great videos Nathan. 🚜
Looks like Brock is going to be washing equipment. Can't be mad at someone for doing something that we have all done ourselves.
Your right Nathan, getting stuck is apart of farming, it happens, gotta do it to learn ya know, Brock seems like a good worker too, an hate to say it but good working people are hard to find nowadays, few in between, unfortunately, thanks for sharing, first stuck of the year right?
God driver man, my congratulations. Great video.
Act like you’ve never gotten stuck before.. wasn’t familiar with the field obviously, be grateful for your hired hand willing to help.
Great video Nathan
Brock probably wishes you'd fire him so he could avoid the coming abuse LOL
Haha I told him we'd be even because I was going to put it on the internet. He said I owe him a steak dinner
Good one.
Cheers from up north 🇨🇦 she a little slick up here too lol
That's a good job of planting. (the disk)
time to get the ol' stuck list out!
Hi Nathan :) Been there done that in the UK :( Next time you get stuck :( try folding everything up ( as if your on the road ) your not trying to pull everything still on the deck , worked 90% of the time when I got stuck in the 8400 jd I used to drive when I was working on farm in the UK
Thats why we don’t ever use chain’s too many close calls like that
chains, not chain's
Great video
And that’s why you put jackets over the chains or strap because if they break they can whip back but if there’s a jacket on it it will kill that force
For the record, my $500, 250,000lb strap was a great investment. 😂
nice place for a pond..:)
He did a fine job, if you plant them plant them good.
Better than what happened to me my first time. Got stuck, about 10;00 night. Boss said we will get it in the morning. Our other hired went out there in the morning, ramed and slammed it and got it out.
Boss gave me some crap about not wanting to work. So after that if your going to stick em, do a good job of it
That way you never look like a fool
GOOD JOB BROCK
AND YOU TOOK IT WELL NATE.
Great action video, you really raised the bar on this one. How you gonna top this video LOL. Hey Brock dont feel bad my brother jumped the gun one wet year took the disc out to a field and started to disc, 100' he was stuck. He was by the road and had to get the neighbor four wheel drive to pull him out
“This is what we got. It’ll be fine”
I'm in NW Indiana and that rain you were tracking they said 1.75 in for us , we got .20 . 3 miles south 1.3 inches ?? Brock might not ever do that again , those are lesson that you can't be told only experienced !
If he worked for Mike Mitchell he would owe $20.
hahaha Blair just had to put $20 in
did some looking in to them ropes and they are not what you think as you pull on the rope it stretchs and inturn increases the pulling power
🔥aww well lil bit of muddy fun eh guyzz.🔥👊🔥🏍🏍🏍🚜🚜🚜⚠️
Poor Brock I know how he feels I buried a few tractors to the axles.lol
OK, I think the time has come to invest in some straps. I don't need to see any more chains snapping or worse!
Only thing that's broke is Brock's Pride
Brock didn’t drive into the wet hole, the auto steer did it. His hands were off the wheel!
That looked like nice rich loam
Everyone HAS been stuck. He shouldn’t feel bad. At some again, everyone will be stuck again. We just hope to do it less frequently.
Looks like a 2 day power wash job.
looks like the beans are on the way. I chicken out
Well when it comes to getting stuck there are 2 kinds of people- those that have and those that will.
When using a chain or cable throw a blanket or even a jacket over it in the middle. That will deaden the whip if it breaks.
Brock will soon be doing crowdfunding for his therapy!
I think I like the air filter on the old 4630 better, I think, ya I like it better.
Buy some towing straps, just saying...
Have you ever had one that fought you every step of the way and took hours to pull or maybe needed a big wrecker?
Would folding the discs up before trying to pull out have helped by reducing the drag all those disc being embedded in the ground?
I would have unhooked the roll personally but one wonders after seeing just what effort and power it took to get the tractor out on its own although it looked well down when Brock was moving the steering from side to side. (I'm never sure that action actually helps in really soft ground)
I think we might know what's making the 2021 year in review video
First youtube stuck of the year. Hope you get some extra views.
lol if you're here for the action jump to 10:00 wutever cuz that's where the fun starts... lol well fun action wutever THAT WAS HAHAHA FUNNY HAHAHA!!!!
NATNAN ALL THE RAIN IS IN GA. Lol
I honestly believe that this STUCK falls on the guy directing the rookie..could have gone out there and circled the wet spot or at least pointed it out to him..
All part of Farming getting stuck
We have all been there
Been there where you are willing it to come out
Now you don't have anymore chains
We're just breaking the old ones
About time your fired him. All he ever did was play with the water hose all the time. No room for a slacker on a farm. Lol
Need to check into yankum rope
Thats what happens when the new guy doesn't know the fields good times
Farming in bad conditions is expensive 🤨
Lesson learned. It probably won’t happen again for a long long time
How do you not have a heavy strap or heavy duty chain you farm with big tractors you always have stuff just in case them chains stood no chance unless you looped one chain twice to have extra strength
17:15 MORE COWBELLS!!!
Scratch the top open and she be ready to plant in an hour.....🤣
Ron Pratt uses straps to lift heavy loads and they do 30000lbs each and they dont snap your next perchase i think
have him use a water pick and a tooth brush he will remember
brock did not make a mistake
it is he who knows the earth so has not noticed where he should not drive
Stuff happens Brock
9:38 awww crap I gotta go get the planter!!!!!
(oh my ;) cool... dude... you the seed dude,
lol extra trucks is extra bux...
that came from somplace
I kno not where of rite now lol
ELEVATE not escalate!!!!!
wait... he may be just draggin it to the SHOP to get it werked on!!! you should ''call said neighbor'' and inquire lol or not... do they follow your channel?? lol
When an employee makes an error, they might adjust their time card to ease the expense of correcting the problem. An employer is foolish to accept the offer, tempting as it might seem.
Most State Labor laws ARE very specific in this area. Well beyond the incident, if a Unrelated disagreement arises, there is an extended statute of limitations for the failure to pay wages scenario. The State Labor dept. will not only collect the unpaid wages but also levy a fine + it maintains a labor violation record AGAINST that employer. States generally side w/ the employee, + employers generally retain counsel, another cost. All this sometimes over less than $ 100. Just a general FYI.
👍👍👍
Left 2 point latch appears to not be locked down
Maybe Yankum instead of Dr. Pepper? LOL
If a young man doesn't find himself stuck from time to time take him to the doctor.
All u needed was some bigger chains. Those looked pretty small
Brock, you’re going to be pressure washing that unit! Lol
That was a good one he will never hear the end of that one LoL lol 😂😂
Somebody gotta get them Yankum Rope
A Big YankUm and 15 minutes, would have been out and back to work.
So much easier on the equipment, no snapped shafts.
The WET years are coming.
That tractor must not have GPS field view so Brock could see the unplanted areas.
Treat Brock well, he's the guy that's going to save one of your family in an accident or medical emergency
