Visual Kei has always mixed musical styles. Regardless of this VK does have a distinguishable musical style which was exploited mainly in the late 90's. Some bands that represented it were: Aliene Ma'riage, Noir Fleurir. old Dir en grey, La:Sadie's, Verfe~Gorl. We might say the bands that gave a musical style to Visual Kei were bands like Kuroyume and Baiser, among others. Malice Mizer went through 3 phases. The 1st phase with Tetsu used to sound more like the typical old school VK.

I cannot tell you how much I've heard that. Or they will say they Like "Visual Kei" but then show me a random japanese band and say they are visual kei, and it makes me realize they didnt grasp my one hour Rant/Lecture on what Visual Kei is.
hi! i lve this song! but im not too sure wht visual kei is...what i know abt it is just visual make up and elaborate costumes..what abt the music? does it always represents gothic themes/darkness/illuminati ideas? if u have time pls enlighten me on this.
