About Hamilton from Wikipedia:
Hamilton: An American Musical is a sung-and-rapped-through musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Miranda said he was inspired to write the musical after reading the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. The show draws heavily from hip hop, as well as R&B, pop, soul, and traditional-style show tunes. It casts non-white actors as the Founding Fathers and other historical figures. Miranda described Hamilton as about "America then, as told by America now".

This is what I love so much about Hamilton! Everyone has their own opinions on the songs just like most musicals but because this musical reaches such a wide audience, we get to see even more differing opinions! As a song writer, learning about what works and what doesn't for each person in a song is quite interesting me. This guy is exactly who Hamilton was made for. It's made for everyone to enjoy! Thanks for the great video!!
He said that hurricane was better than the Reynolds pamphlet. He’s wrong.
@@ProclaimingProductions It's an opinion. Everyone has their opinions and hey, one of my favourite songs from Hamilton is Farmer refuted, does that make me wrong because not everyone agrees? It's all up to taste and it's great to see everyone's opinion as they aren't fact, they are an opinion.
Yeah but some people just have straight Bad Opinions
Look The Schuyler Sisters is a good song but it’s not better than Hurricane or Reynolds’s Pamphlet
@@gemmakelly9831 alsooo Farmer Refuted Is a great song Ok bye
“They made Washington bald.. he’s known for his luscious locks”
Sir… they also made half the founding fathers black do you think they care about appearances for the characters?? It’s about the talent and increasing the diversity to represent American now
Also everything from the head up is supposed to portray modern times. Everything from the head down is 1700s fashion.
"for some reason everyone is really concerned with legacy"
yeah because its making a statement using the story of hamilton my dude
Why does no one like farmers refuted It's actually a really fun and underrated song
agreed
It’s not a bad song at all. The duel verses slap.
Everyone is insane except for us
EXACTLY!!!
I fucking love farmers refuted
Alternate title: I make the Hamilton fandom angry
THIS HAHSUEHSHHSDH
Exactly
It clearly worked for him though. These are decent views compared to his others. I don't say that to criticize. I'm glad he got a decent hit.
"Same as the first one... not good.."
Me... YOU MUST BE OUT OF UR GOD DAMN MIND!?!?!?!
he gave take a break a b...dont overestimate him.
He gave Reynolds pamphlet a D tier this guy SUCKS
FRRRRRRR
IF YOU THINK THE PRESIDENT IS GONNA BRING THE NATION TO THE BRINK
What-
Low A? for the room where it happens?
Is easily one of the best IF NOT the best song in the musical .
Leslie's VOICE IS HISTORICAL
ITS MY FAVORITE SONG
NO SERIOUSLY, Also the fact he is able to sing that good while performing??? Like it's not only the best song but as he's mentioned himself very difficult to preform!
I LISTEN TO IT SOOO MUCH!!
It’s by far my favorite song in the musical! LOJ is amazing!!!
Yes I stand by you
As soon as he said "Aaron Burr, sir" was bad, I knew I wasn't gonna have a good time here
Exactly.
LITERALLY
I got very frustrated at his disregarding Farmer Refuted. The way Lin handles the timing, you can outright hear him talking around Seabury, like you could imagine Hamilton writing. It's almost like the parts are in different time signatures. It's so well done.
@@tsharabrown3719 omg yea, low key love farmers refuted, it's genius!
Y E S
Jefferson/Lafayette has literally the best songs? Also don’t think the musical was made for you. It has a few weak songs for sure, but ranking every emotional song a c for being boring is pretty dumb idk. Also Washington was like pretty old when stepping down from the presidency and very tired from leading a revolution and establishing a new government for 20 years, so the man just wants to rest.
It’s his opinion.
@@iloveanythingfantasy true
burn did not deserve that ranking
Also worth mentioning that Washington died a year after stepping down.
YESSSSS
I get that you're American.............but lafayette...........LEAVE HIM ALONE
Odd considering he'd be British if not for Lafayette. Washington wasn't going to win the war on his horrible tactics alone.
Literally, Lafayette is the best, I couldn't stand him saying that he didn't like him. Also the fact that he didn't put burn as S made me mad lol
HE'S THE BEST!!!

Son of a bitch you’re totally right
@@MokerJaniac I love Hamilton! But I don’t agree t most of this. Still love it!
I feel like he’s trying to rate the songs as if they’re individual songs instead of being part of a musical
SO TRUE, he rated it as if it was a regular album
@@theevilbeanhe only rated them off of the music and lyrics and not their story and expects all of the songs to be happy and upbeat and puts the emotional songs after a death low

haha you're so right
DUDE LITERALLY I GASPED WHEN HE SAID HE DOESNT LIKE AARON BURR SIR
These opinions of yours are like the absolute opposite of mine

YES
I couldn’t agree more
basically, the second a song is quiet and touching it's boring?
yeah from what he’s saying. and if it’s short as well
After "the story of tonight" I was thinking that you were a jerk. But after "Wait for It", I got totally convinced
Bro literally, and after he didn't put burn at the top it just made it obvious lol
Wait for it and dear Theodosia is my favs
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I actually paused the video and walked away when he put farmers refuted at D, that song is amazing
And Wait for it, he actually offended me by saying it was kind of bad
Dude what the hell you call boring some of the most emotionally rich songs.
Exactly, he only called the more emotional slower songs boring. Like, they're obviously not gonna be rapping after someone dies-
@@idek_whatim_doing3848 Omg that would be messed up but kinda funny if it happened hahaha.
@@pabloiriqui6128 literally tho-
@@idek_whatim_doing3848 i guess its just his preferences. still sucks he did that though

I’ve got a lot of questions but my main concern is, how could you not appreciate Daveed Diggs.
Also, you said that Burn is boring because it’s slow and quiet. But what else would it be? You’d want a song about her reaction to getting cheated on to be happy and upbeat?
I got it. The music of Helpless to the lyrics, mildly adapted for rhythm, of Burn.... yeah, I just don't think that works.
He liked most of the fast and "main stream" sounding songs so don't think musicals would be his thing lol
@@theevilbean yeah thats what i thought too
Musicals aren’t made to have every single song be 3 minutes or longer that is incredibly attention grabbing and makes you listen to it constantly, it matters more about where the story is. You can’t have an upbeat song with happy people when something terrible happened.
Yeah, and the length is variable because of the time needed to discuss the event/s, and pacing, and a bunch of other musical stuff I probably don't understand.
ofc, but would u listen to song out of the context if its 40 sec long? in musical ofc every song is important, but when listening to music normally...
Like story of tonight it’s a great point and sets up later stuff ( cough cough Lawrence’s death) it does the right job
@@verletzt546 its not meant to be a song you would listen to normally (in my opinion) ps i know im very late to this vid lmao
I have to agree: Lin's voice is not the best on the cast, and sometimes I have the exact same feeling of whiplash in some tracks
BUT GOD, HOW HELPLESS RANKED ON C???????
SAME WITH BURN
Jesus Christ ikr helpless was so good
IK IVE BEEN LISTENING TO IT ALL DAY
IKRRRRR
I'm glad Im not the only one who thinks Lin's voice wasn't great... I thought I was being elitist or not getting the style. I'm used to it now, but still. His singing in Vivo (Netflix) is much better. I don't know enough vocal terminology to explain how though.
Guy at first: "I am not a perfectional do not take this harshly" and saying how good the musical is.
Guy during video: "Lin should have me write these songs" and hating on the whole musical. 😂😵
ok so I'm thinking this guy is judging the songs based on how songs usually are? Because there's no way he's judging this properly.
Not every song has to be a really hype song to be a good song. Personally, I love Burn. I love Phillipa’s voice, and you can tell her emotions just by listening. I know everyone has their own opinions, but it kind of put me off when you kept saying “I get it, your husband just cheated on you” or “I get it, your son just died.” It just didn’t set right with me.
"I get it, your blah blah blah" like yeah that's the point. it's a play. They're supposed to sing about their feelings and it's a super great song. I agree with you, he put me off with that
i mean yeah but some people just think hype songs are just the best
@@mrmilkman7839 like I said in my comment, I know everyone has their own opinions. His opinions are valid, it’s just the way he kept introducing the sad/slow songs kind of put me off.
The song was so shocking for me, in a sad way. I loved it tho
I didn’t get to that part in the video but BURN WILL FOREVER BE THE BEST IN MY HEART. PHILIPA is just so amazing and hearing her amazing vocals and the true hurt in her voice AWHHH

I agree great video but he's banned from hamilton
If im honest, i got personally offended when he ranked guns and ships-
shocked at the guns and ships comments tbh, one of the best songs imo!!! also don't know how or why but every actor I've ever seen play burr fuckin SLAPS
"They made Washington bald ! He's known for his lushish locks !"
1. No.
2. He was known for his powdered wig and hair, not 'lushish locks'.
3. Lin-Manuel Miranda didn't care about Christpoher Jackson not having hair, only that his vocal range was brilliant, je could act and drew in a crowd.
He was joking 💀💀
I have one small thing to say, for Meet Me Inside, your right, it is a mess. But Lin did that on purpose as a storytelling thing, because after Lee was shot the entire army was a mess and in total disarray trying to figure out what to do. It may not be good song wise but in terms of the narrative it’s genius, same with most other songs you ranked lower. Everything was perfectly thought out to tell the story.
i’m just in awe that he called what did i miss a flop 💀💀
He insulted the REYNOLDS PAMPHLET of all things wtf?? I've never been so genuinely hostile over a video but I would genuinely throw hands with this dude
Hamilton was the gateway drug of musicals for Gen Z.
Haven't seen the video yet, but the correct answer is S tier for every song, no exceptions, every single one is a pure masterpiece
honestly, i dont like any of the king songs, only good when watching the musical

A Winter's Ball is bad, and adds little to nothing to the plot.

I fuckinh hate Jefferson that duded a jerk and i hate whst did i miss
1:57 broadway musicals are like that, songs switch to another and another and another until it ends and everyone cries
It's really tough to rank the songs of Hamilton. If you rank them on a curve against "The Room Where It Happened" and "You'll Be Back" then you have a couple "D" level songs, but if you rank them against the average Broadway show tune, nothing falls below a "B" or "C."
Everyone has an opinion. And it's ok to be wrong, so Hamilton will continue to reign supreme and this video will be packed away without a second thought
THIS
I adore Hamilton, but I agree with criticisms of it on historical accuracy and whitewashing. Musically, it's a work of genius. And let's face it, I wouldn't have learned anything about Hamilton, or started learning about the inaccuracies, if it weren't for this piece of art.
I liked the video, not because I agree with you( Jesus Christ your optinions are the worst ever) but because the video was done well and at least you are honest with your optinions.
I will say, as big of a fan as I , I don't think every song deserves S tier, but if you look at the quality of each song individually (without comparison) than every song deserves at least a B.
Does he even like the musical?
My ranking would be:
S - Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, Sir, My Shot, The Story of Tonight, The Schuyler Sisters, Farmer Refuted, You’ll be Back, Right Hand Man, A Winter’s Ball, Helpless, Satisfied, The Story of Tonight - Reprise, Wait for It, Stay Alive, Ten Duel Commandments, Meet Me Inside, That Would Be Enough, Guns and Ships, History Has Its Eyes on You, Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down), What Comes Next?, Dear Theodosia, Non-Stop, What’d I Miss, Cabinet Battle #1, Take a Break, Say No to This, The Room Where It Happens, Schuyler Defeated, Cabinet Battle #2, Washington on Your Side, One Last Time, I Know Him, The Adams Administration, We Know, Hurricane, The Reynolds Pamphlet, Burn, Blow Us All Away, Stay Alive - Reprise, It’s Quiet Uptown, The Election of 1800, Your Obedient Servant, Best of Wives and Best of Women, The World Was Wide Enough, Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story
A - N/A
B - N/A
C - N/A
D - N/A
There is literally not one skip in the entire musical.
Tbh id skip burn. Too emotional on Eliza's part for my heart.
the only right answer :)
One reason I love "Wait For It" is the same reason as "The Room Where It Happens", it really shows Burr's point of view and I think that's necessary because otherwise people don't know his motives for his mistakes
The common trope in Hamilton where songs lead in out of each other is actually because Hamilton is technically a Rock Opera (meaning it has little to no dialogue outside of songs)
I disrespectfully disagree with everything you’ve done here.
Especially him dissing lins voice as if he could do any better
@@potato3551 he probably could. Lin is a very talented writer, composer, director, lyricist, even RAPPER, but he is far from a talented singer. ESPECIALLY when compared to the rest of the cast.

The story does not change how a song sounds. For example, if a musical has a great story but garbage music, the music is unpleasant to listen to regardless of how amazing the overall story is. And vice versa, if a musical has an awful story but some great songs, you might listen to the song because you enjoy it despite the plot sucking donkey balls.
I’ve been a hamilton fan since it came out, I have seen it live and on disney+. I am a huge history nerd. I love most of the songs in the musical and I do not agree with most of this guy’s rankings (besides the ones he puts in a and s tier). And I still think the OG comment I’m replying to is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. Hamilton is not a perfect piece of media (far from it) and everyone has different tastes. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Just because he doesn’t enjoy your favorite song and it hurts your feewings doesn’t mean he doesn’t “value the meaning”
Overall it’s just really annoying when people dismiss a dissenting opinion as “not understanding what they’re talking about” because it’s easier to be condescending than it is to acknowledge that their fave media isn’t perfect and not everyone is going to enjoy it to the extent that they do. it just gives off “the world revolves around me and everyone must agree with me”

Ok, this list is pretty fucking jank. Poorly ranking some absolute bangers, you made a lot of enemies with this vid. But i'm actually gonna defend this on one count.
You are ranking these as songs, as individuals, and not songs in a musical. From your comment about throwing on Yorktown for workout, and your bias towards hype up sings, it's clear you were judging these more on how much you would listen to the song divorced from the musical, and not just as a whole experience. So I understand some of these descisions were made, and won't judge you AS harshly as some of the others here.
These are the worst Hamilton takes I have ever seen…Obviously this musical is not for you and that’s OK
Frrr
everyone has their own opinion
Can people stop hating on this person? They stated at the beginning of the video that this is just their *opinion* . You don’t have to agree with them (and I don’t agree with a lot of the rankings), but don’t hate on them for having an opinion
Gosh, this video is almost disrespectful to such beautiful and emotional songs.
"It's Quiet Uptown" is one of the most powerful songs in the musical.
Wait For It was done so dirty on this list too
Helpless deserves better
frfr
My favorite song from the musical 😪
I’m British and I think I understand this American musical more than him. It’s an amazing musical!!!
Also fun fact: when everyone says “the world turned upside down” in Yorktown, it’s a comeback to the British as this was a song from the Stuart era when King Charles got executed. They thought ‘the world turned upside down’ as normal citizens of England can go against the King.
Literally same
About the Hamilton whiplash situation, I was just like that the first time I saw this musical. I laughed so hard every time Lin sang that now I feel kinda ashamed of it.
But as I continued to repeatedly listen, bc every godamn song it's an earworm stg, his voice grew very quickly on me. So much so that Hamilton would've not been the same without that slimy tone of his imho
There's a thing about your "half-songs", it is not purposely written as a song, I personally call them transition songs. When you realize, these are actually simple dialogues in the Musical. When you look at some of the other musicals, there are dialogues, where in Hamilton, every part of the musical turned into a song, since it was written in a melody with rhyming and a music at the background, even it's just a simple dialouge. I think you should've rank the "whole songs", not including these "half-songs" as you say.
Hope you should delete this vid :)
“It’s repetitive”
HMM I WONDER WHY MAYBE ITS LIKE A SONG OR SOMETHING
he needs to stop changing his mind cause he either LOVES lin manuel miranda or he’s saying that he ruined the song and same with arron bur cause in the beginning of the songs that he started he “didn’t like it” but the next song that starts with the same thing is sooo good like choose one man
but-
burn is literally so good, like my favorite part is where she's all like
"the world has no place to my heart, the world has no place in our bed!"
and also
"be careful with that one love, he'll do what it takes to survive."
like- Phillipa Soo has some AMAZING vocals. this is one of my favorite songs in the musical, and I'd personally rate it at at least a high A-tier, if not S.
also kind of don't like his mentality of
"oh, this song is really slow and emotional, it's so boring"
like he said, she just got publicly cheated on by her husband. do you expect her to be happy about it?
edit: also "I'm erasing myself from the narrative" is iconic
Now, opinions are opinions and all... Though, setting that aside, if my friends ranked them like this they would most defiantly not be friends for much longer.
All of the songs you don’t like are meant to be used for storytelling purposes, not to be the best song you ever heard, which is necessary for the plot
Just 2 minutes in and I already hate his list, get ready to be canceled 🥱
I am so sorry, this comment is in no way an attempt to offend you, but Hamilton wasn't made for you
That’s a damaging take. It was made for everyone.
@@crimsonmaverick8237 For everyone who knows at least how to be respectful- And how musicals work.
I certainly don't agree with all of your assessments (your tendency to like only one type of song implies that you were looking more for a concert than a musical), but I do agree (and I might be put in musical theatre jail for this) that every role that Lin Manuel Miranda plays in his shows get better when played by Javier Munos (his replacement in both "Hamilton" and "In the Heights".) Lin is serviceable, but Javier is nuanced and has a fantastic voice. Also, he's pointing becuase Alex Lacamoir is not only the conductor but also the orchestrator of the musical. He literally wrote the show with Lin.
He lost me when he said he didn't like the freestyle in Aaron Burr, sir. Like YOU MUST BE OUT YOUR GoDdAmN mInD!!
I rank every Hamilton song so you don’t have to…
I feel I have to redo the entire list
(The analysis on Dear Theodosia was very accurate though)
Just to let you know that the reason the start of meet me inside is so chaotic is because the intro is in 7-8. Which is pure musical genious on Lins part. It shows that everything is in diserray and no one knows what to do until Washington comes in.
With peace and love I rarely watch the entirety of a video that I disagree as fundamentally with as this one. You shitting on the beginning of meet me inside specifically peeved me endlessly, being a music student. It’s in 7/8. Not 4/4. It’s a time signature. Generally well put together though, good edits and stuff. But GOD I disagree with you.
" Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story," is the most emotional finale songs I've ever heard and fitting closing to the telling of both Hamiltons' stories. Did you rush through this without thinking through it, because your arguments for why you think some of the songs don't make sense whatsoever.

But man’s I gotta agree with you Your Obedient server is freaking great and Angelica is just.. A M A Z I N G
This might sound weird but my favorite is Story of Tonight. It seems so friendly and calm, just about four guys having fun wrapping up a night, excited about making history. I love the end vocals, there’s a smoooooooth transition into The Schuyler Sisters, and I will forever lobe the quote, “I may not live to see our glory, but I will gladly join the fight.”
It feels like you're saying: slow = boring
I believe this man didn't understood a lot of things in this musical.
I also think he generally doesn't know that a musical also tells a story and isn't just singing...
Low C!
“Everyone’s obsessed with history”..yes this..is a musical based off the past. ITS BASSED OF HISTORY!!?? I doubt you saw this musical more then once
You only care about how the songs are and not that there apart of the musical
Also all of king George’s song needs to be a a S tier.

This is the most ass backwards Hamilton ranking I've ever seen
True
🤣
Watching this genuinely angered me
"I don't know anything about music or musicals, but I'm gonna go ahead and rate the most ground breaking critically acclaimed musical of all time."
As a musicals connoisseur, the lowest I'd put any song is probably a B, although that may only be 1 or 2 songs. It isn't my favourite musical, but it is one of the most intelligently crafted shows and virtually every song is straight fire.
Some (probably most) musicals have songs and dialogue. This means that the songs are usually about deepening the emotional well of the show, because they can rely on the dialogue in between songs to advance the plot. So the songs are often a regular length.
Other shows are completely sung through (Hamilton, Les Miserables, Rent etc) so if you have a plot that needs to get across a looooot of information (like Hamilton does), you are going to get some songs that are longer, and some songs that are shorter, because not all information is of the same value to the plot. A Winters Ball is just setting the scene where Hamilton meets the Schuyler sisters, so it is short. Helpless covers how Hamilton and Eliza met, their courtship, and their wedding, so it is a longer song. This is very normal in musicals that are sung through. Short songs are not 'half songs' - they didn't write a 'full song' then cut it in half because they wanted to keep the half hidden in order to annoy you. They last as long as they need to in order to convey the necessary information, and then it moves to the next song. The short songs in sung-through musicals aren't created for shits and giggles - they are there specifically to give you necessary information or to set the scene for what is about to happen, or to provide a transition from what has just happened. If all of those songs were of a regular length, you would call them repetitive and the musical would be twice as long, making it tedious.
Edit: I wrote the above about half way through the video. When you said 'It's Quiet Uptown' is boring, I said Fuck You out loud. And then got really ticked off when you said you always laugh at 'the orphanage'. You seemed to enjoy the aggressive/busy songs and then found the emotional point of the show to be boring or funny. Have you ever taken a psychopathy test?
I audibly said fuck you a loooottt
I know he has his opinions and all but I hold this musical very dear to me and I love pretty much every single one of these songs
i agree with most of your opinion's on here, but the CABINET BATTLES???? bro those are FIRE
LITERALLY THO!!!
Reynolds Pamphlet really. Thats def S tier for me.
Me too I LOVE the part when they sing who's not going to be president now
This musical is entirely sung through and about someone’s life so it’s not going to be all upbeat and happy. Did you expect a rock song when his son died? I mean come on these songs tell a story, you shouldn’t judge them as individual songs but judge them on how they flow together to say a message. I don’t think you really understand the musical well enough to judge it and I disagree with your opinions but I’m glad you enjoyed it! Also: Lin may not have the best singing voice but after you listen to it enough you learn to look past it and actually enjoy the songs. He’s a musical genius and every single song from every movie or musical that he has written goes hard so he doesn’t need to have a great voice when he has an amazing mind
I was holding back tears watching this review video
To explain the slow songs, it is to help give breathing room for the next high point, and to add tension because you know a twist is about to happen. That said, Story of Tonight at C is your opinion, yet I don’t agree with it
MokerJaniac, that was a real nice declaration.
Back up your claims, or we didn't have this conversation!
Would you like to prove this, or stay mellow
Doin whateva the hell it is you do on a youtube channel?
This^^😭😭
YOURE SO RIGHT ABOUT LIN IN DEAR THEODOSIA THO😭
i haven't stopped thinking about the "oh phillip you outshine the morning sun" sang by him since i last watched this
The fact that he didn't know 'Say No to This' was R&B is insulting. Like WTF. Overall yeah this is his opinion but to say 'What Did I Miss' and the rap battle weren't good is insane.
HOW ARE YOU NOT GONNA TALK ABOUT LEE'S PART IN STAY ALIVE- execution. electric chair.
