@@andymiller3366I personally enjoy Simply's react content because he's an actual high-level speedrunner himself, so he may have insight on the tricks themselves, and also knows a lot of the runners, some of them personally.
I don't watch XQC but I doubt he's actually as connected to the communities he's reacting to, compared to Simply.

In terms of 1-key, it's worth remembering that the TAS skips the moat door by flying across parallel universes to land on a single pixel. Moat door skip is potentially the most precise trick in TAS history, not just for SM64 but across all video games ever.
Never say never, but a human-viable version of 1-key is a whole different ball game for carpetless, which just required a consistent setup for a couple of glitchy wall kicks.
The a button challenge has some more precise tricks. Like the lll volcano star
One key also probably has a lot fewer possible strats. When Krithalith ran scattershot to find moat skip alternatives it required a *lot* of patience and prodding and he had to manually force it to do a bunch of stuff and it only found a few ways to get there at all, and I think the timesave it found was mostly just from better swimming and not a substantially different way to build up speed in Vanish Cap. IIRC when he ran Scattershot to find carpetless options it found a bunch almost right away and there were loads of possible speeds and heights that worked, and that's one of the reasons it was possible to find a consistent setup.
This makes me wonder if the humanly doable 1 key will involve some setup that gets the game state as correct as it can be in a humanly doable way. By this, I mean the minimum number of bits of game state away from whatever the correct state is to enter the moat door. Then the player would need to pray for the right bit(s) to flip during a solar storm or something. I doubt such a strategy would even be accepted to the leaderboards, but it is an interesting concept to me.
I could theoretically see it being possible in the distant future with a pause buffering savant and a specially designed controller with notches at the required angles (if that were considered legal... I know there are restrictions on changing out controllers mid-run but that's different, and I feel like people would probably understand using something like this). I seriously doubt it would be even close to as fast as a normal 0 star run though, it would have to be its own thing.

@@Cosmalano yes it is lmao. 70 star is like 7 times longer than 0 star, even if people don't play it as much, it is still much more likely for 0 star runs to have closer margins
@@Travixty less people doing the category = less optimization. Less optimization makes it harder for people to get as consistently close to the record. And not only is it less optimized, but again, 0 is rarely even done. Unfortunately the best players get distracted by other categories people find flashier and so you don’t get people competing for the world record as frequently, meaning anyone who does the category can end up pulling farther ahead than they could in a more competitive category
@@Cosmalano ofc, but it's still over 7x shorter. being withing 5 seconds over 40+ minutes compared to only within 9 over 6 minutes is crazy. It's not like no one's ever grinded 0 star, it's that suigi is that much better. furthermore, it's not like suigi has grinded 0 star so much more than other people
@@Travixty he’s done it most recently, so he’s able to make use of everything new like the advancements in ultimate ddd skip that started last summer with weegee, as an example. Regarding the gap, there is something to be said about Kanno’s run being over a year old.

Kid's not an alien and it's not magic. He has a plan, knows how to define goals, knows how to practice and executes that. In time, preparation + discipline + deliberate practice will always beat talent, which is Suigi's case

I have no doubt he’s more than capable of doing it, but he needs to put together at least a competitive 120 run before I think GOAT is fair. Hard to say someone with the 214th best time for 100%ing the game is the GOAT

This shows how crazy his 16 star WR really is. His 0 star time is 8.1 seconds above his sum of best. His 16 star time, which is over twice the time-length of 0 star, is 7.9 seconds above his sum of best!!!! Sub 6:15 is possible for sure, but is he going to do it? probably not. I'll be very surprised if he goes for it in the future. Still this record is messed up! He's destroying this game lol
yeah the 16 star wr is insane. i mean what's there to safe? like a few seconds in total and some of those would be sketchy af strategies that are only slightly faster but inconsistent af.
if you think that the human theory tas done my circumark994 that used all the humanly viable strats that are commonly used in top level runs executed in usual tas perfection is less than 20 seconds faster than the wr it makes it even more insane. unless a major glitch/timesafe/faster strat is discovered i don't think that we'll see a new wr anytime soon if ever again. it's so close to perfection.
The skips in 0-star are more inconsistent, and therefore have more variance, than anything in 16-star. I can understand why 0-star is further from SOB, simply because there are going to be very few runs where the runner gets all the insane lobby BLJ tricks right on the first try, even if that runner is a god like Suigi.
its mainly sblj thats so inconsistent, that wall clip before skipping ddd and keeping all speed is a far from consistent trick that usually only TAS does because its easier to do by using a slide on the fence to move around while keeping speed, lblj is very consistent and doable though, only thing inconsistent about LBLJ is the speed at which you mash which could lose about a quarter of a second sometimes you save a quarter of a second
Its just insane how this continues to go down. Everytime I see a new record I'm always thinking I won't see another until another a huge new secret is discovred.

Someone in chat was asking if sub-6 would ever happen in 0 star, saying that carpetless is an example of major time save
Suigi says that it's different, because the only similar timesave left in 0 star would be 1 key, where you skip Bowser in the Dark World using a BLJ in the starting area to skip straight to the basement. But this trick is orders of magnitude more difficult and precise than carpetless, to the point that it will never be performed by a human even in isolation, much less in a full run.
It's called one key because you get keys from Bowser in the Dark World and Bowser in the Fire Sea, but the TAS-only trick skips the first key.

This is because when you do the LBLJ through the upstairs' door key , you aren't in the stairs room but in a fake room where there is nothing you can do.

TAS can do a BLJ to clip into Vanish Cap at the very start of the game then do some quarter frame out of bounds bullshit to get into the basement from the underwater door so that you don't need to fight Bowser 1
Is a TAS move where Mario does a BLJ heading into vanish cap even with the moat not drained, and then builds up such a crazy amount of negative speed going up an elevator in vanish cap and when he leaves the stage, his speed is stored and gets shot out to a parallel universe and back to the main area and opening the door that's in the moat which is impossible to do without all that speed, so you skip doing bowser in the dark world and the first bowser fight, therefore skipping the 1st key.

Until players find a new strat, it's impossible at the moment. I believe suigi's sum of best is also the COMMUNITY sum of best for 0 stars.
