I wanted a new one this winter but the one I want/NEED is very $$ and the company didn’t want to work with me sadly LOL and I didn’t save up enough money before the cold came so now i’m kinda stuck. not the most fun situation but i’ll be able to get the right diesel heater soon enough

I messed up the headliner in my van with the same heater. A fan helped circulate the hot air.

You should try adding a fireplace fan to your buddy heater. I use one religiously in my cargo conversion and it really helps spread the heat through out the space! Hook a 5gal paint roller strainer from Home Depot to the handles and set it over the heating element. Game changer!

I'm really not able to visualize your description. Why the paint roller grid thingy (strainer)as the buddy heater has a shield over the heating element 🤷🏾‍♀️. The fan part I get but not the other. Guess I'd have to see what you're describing.

@@JNantegoogle paint roller screen buddy heater hack and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I’m a visual person so I’m not really sure how to better describe it! Most responses show boiling water or what have you, however I use a fireplace fan which helps push the air around my rig instead of just letting it go straight up to the ceiling area.

Hey Becca, I am dairy and gluten free. I know you are an amazing cook, so here is my FAST recipe for non-dairy cheese sauce (which would have gone great on your sandwich in this episode). You don't have to use all the spices if you don't have them...and adjust the water for thicker or thinner cheeze sauce. I had made this camping a bunch and it always seems to turn out. Love ya lady!
    Fast Non-dairy cheeze sauce:
¼ cup vegan butter or butter
⅔ cup all-purpose flour (or chickpea flour for gluten-free)
¾ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
    ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
    ½ teaspoon garlic powder
    ½ teaspoon onion powder
    ⅔ cup nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon lemon juice, fresh or bottled or even the powdered crystals
1 cup warm water (adjust for desired thickness) - add a bit at a time and stir well before adding more.
In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter.
Add the flour, salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder to the melted butter.
Whisk until combined; the mixture will be crumbly.
Gradually whisk in the nutritional yeast until well mixed.
Slowly add the warm water while whisking continuously. Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If it appears too thick, add more water until you reach your desired consistency.
Stir in the lemon juice for a tangy flavor that enhances the cheesy taste.
Use immediately over nachos, pasta, philly sandwiches, or steamed vegetables.
    Enjoy!

The big buddy works well in that cold weather …. The only thing that I would do differently is getting a 10 or 20 ld propane tank …. The 1 ld. Cylinder will get used up quickly …. It is cheaper to get the bigger tanks with the big Buddy conversion connectors to the Buddy unit .

@@HughMadBro I thought you where using them as backup fuel for the Buddy heater . I keep a 10 ld. Cylinder for backup . and for propane stove .I found that disposing a 1 ld. Cylinder can be complicated . Putting out with the trash is not supposed to be legal . Unless you puncture the center and submerge in water .
I think that in the long run … it costs more for the 1 ld. Cylinders … since you can’t properly refill them .
Just a suggestion from my own experience .

I really enjoyed your videos ….. especially since I moved out of the States and only go back for camping in our camper for a few months out of the year . But am now considering selling it . We are concerned about the higher costs of living that will occur in the states and may not be worth it anymore .
We will reevaluate the situation in about 5 more years and see if it is worth going back to in the future in the states .
Where we live most of the time now is not popular for camping like the states . So , I get to enjoy others like yourself on your journeys …. From your videos .
      We will miss it …..

I really feel like you should give the diesel heater another shot. Not one of the all in one style like you had. Or even get a Webasto gasoline heater and have it professionally installed so it’ll use fuel straight from your tank. You’ll never be cold again. I think it’d be much more enjoyable for you and skye. Also probably save money with not having to use nearly as much propane.

Yeah please make sure that you have some window cracked open and get a CO2 alarm.
I just watched a show and they were using the buddy heater and they did not crack the window open and one of the children had died.
But not only that but you got to clean that camper up it's so crammed in there

Little bit of free advice, check into a diesel heater. It’ll work better for you and it will provide better heat.

My Big Buddy has a battery fan in it.
The fan does help move the worm air.
Using the a 20# Propane tank, you will save a lot of money.
You cab also use it to fill the 1 pound cylinders.
The new Buddy should be plenty to keep you worm but you will fight condensation.

The right equipment (heater, clothes, etc.) make a difference. Thanks Becca for sharing your experience with us. But, negative 0 Fahrenheit is just plain cold. It's not a discussion.

Our heater went out during the winter storm and that buddy heater (18000) heated our whole downstairs (1500sqft) to a comfortable 70 degrees on $11 worth of propane. It was amazing. Those little propane bottles are so overpriced. A big cylinder is the way to go.

Becca, Mayo needs a fridge, butter don't.
Also, get yourself an O2 detector if your going to run a Buddy heater.

Hi. I love winter camping. I grew up not too far from where you were at a place called Delaware Water Gap. Great hiking on the AT. I see you are using the Blue Rino tanks. You only get 15 lbs of propane in them. If you get them filled somewhere, you will get 20 lbs. Pretty important. That's 6 more hours of heat set on high. Oh. I use paper bowls instead of dishes. I learned to conserve water in the winter. I'm on my 12th year fulltime RVing on the east coast. I still love it. Safe travels. 🙂

LOVE LOVE LOVE your passion and joy! It’s contagious, and yes inspirational. Regarding the large water bottle, would sealing the opening help? Maybe covering the hole (with the pump inserted of course) will start the suction going. Eh, what do I know? Imagine if it does work though. I think you’re wonderful! God bless you!

Just get a good diesel heater, I have a 6x12 cargo trailer that I converted to a camper and it keeps my camper warm, I can’t even run it more than 40% power because it gets too hot. I have the LF Bros N2.

I live in a truck camper and heat my home with propane, I use my propane stove! you can get a heater that goes on top of a burner !also . I use a shower curtain rod and blanket along with some foam foil insulation
Sheets / boards,, to divide off part of the home leaving the kitchen bedroom to get warm and leaving the table and bath cold ..till morning or sometimes just leave it .( you can just roll them up when not needed . Cuts way down on propane cost! Plus i have 2_ 20 lb tank outside so i never run out ,so much cheaper too 👍i hate to freeze😱
