- Firewire Machadocado 5'6" First Surf Review - Fast & Loose Groveler . Took the new Machadocado 5'6" for its first spin. Quick first impressions: this board paddles and catches waves like a dream. It's fast and loose, perfect for those smaller, mushy days. It surprised me how well it held its own on the front side, carving and even throwing roundhouse cutbacks. Definitely more to explore here once I get into some better waves. Full review coming soon!

board looks good bro. super glidey and drivey. gets you through those soft sections. And the marbled design looks sick
Thanks, Tomye. I'm looking forward to getting it into some better waves with more shape. I surfed it as a twin yesterday; it was super fun! Yes, I really like the marble design too.
I hope the ear is healing well. I had my left ear done 35 years ago. Both are probably 97% closed over again now. I can't swim or surf without plugs, or they block up for days.
The opp can encourage regrowth; if we are susceptible, plugs are a must.
You will be back in the water in no time.
Thanks for your comments🙏🤙
Awesome footage brother.
Stoked you're goofy footer as well 👍🏼
I'm looking into get me one of those, I got the Mash Up and Dominator 2, seems closer to the Mashup but different again.
I'm 5'11" 210LBS intermediate (just 😅) hopefully it works for me...
I can't believe it's not a 5 fins set up🙄 😳🧐🤷
Keep up the good work legend.
You got yourself and New Subscriber here 🤙🏼🙌🏼
Thanks for the positive feedback🙏 yes, it would be nice to have the quad option. I just surfed it as a twin, and I really liked it!
It was a tiny surf, but it was really fun! (Keel fins) You need to experiment, for sure, but I am feeling super positive!
It's much looser than the mashup; I think that it's a great little quiver just in those two boards 😃🤙
Helium Hydroshort is my absolute favourite
Just checked out a few videos, 🔥I would like to try one! I love Tomo shapes!🤙
Great video and surfing, where is this filmed bud?
Thanks Paul 🙏Algarve Portugal 🇵🇹 near Aljezur🤙
Noice. I like the text overlays. Prefer the 2 plus 1 or the twin?
@@TravisVarga Thanks, Travis; I like your Longboard Killer one. I'm not sure yet; I need to surf it more. It's loose with the keels, maybe too loose when it's bigger.
I am not sure about The Machado 2+1 fins yet. They are super rakey, and the trailer is big, but it's early days. I have Future T1 Alpha 2+1 so I want to try those. And there is the option of a thruster set up. Exciting times 😃🤙
@surfingtipsandtricks what about the newly released Futures MR twin +1?
@@tezf6883 Yes, I am sure they would work great, too. I want to try the smaller trailer fin because, as a twin, I just felt it was much smoother rail to rail. But I need to have more surfs on it. In the three surfs I have had on it, there was very little wall.
Nice review. Good surfing 🤙🏾 but I’m not into this board. Seaside works just fine
Yes I still want to get a Seaside at some point🤙
@@surfingtipsandtricks I’ve done tons of reviews on my channel on the seaside. It’s my favorite board!
I will check them out🤙
I have checked them out before, great reviews🤙
@@surfingtipsandtricks I will always keep my seaside in my quiver but....Too Fish > Seaside almost always.
Considering how junky those waves look, it looks like a fun board. You can only do so much in fat weak waves performance wise. Machado's boards seem to let you get the most out of those kinds of conditions and then the boards go unreal when you get some decent waves. I might have to get one.
Thanks Ben🙏🤙
Thanks! I’m looking forward to an honest review
Of course 🙏
LOL...my exact same session on it.... Few good ones but there's a learning curve
Yes for sure! I have found the same thing with the Mashup
@bryananderson5697 what's the cado learning curve?
@@tezf6883 I have had three surfs on it; two are in the videos. The other surf (not filmed) was in better condition, surfing with the Machado 2+1 fins. I found the board a little unpredictable and felt it had some resistance down the line (forehand), a bit like the Mashup. But I have been riding the Mashup for months. So, is it the fins, or do I need to surf the board a few more times to get used to it?
Gut feeling; there is a learning curve. It was much more predictable as a Twin, but the conditions were marginal and cleaner.
It has huge concaves running through the board, which I think makes it a little unpredictable but super fast.
Even in Rob's videos, there are a few times when he nearly loses control (slightly), but wow, look how he surfs it! I need more time surfing it, for sure. 🤙 I think it also depends on the surfer's ability because this could be a great board for higher intermediates if they go for a bigger size, and the learning curve is probably going to be less.
looks almost exactly like the superbrand fling
Hey😃 I'm not understanding what you mean?
The Superbrand - fling is another board that he is saying this look like. Superbrand is the manufacturer, Fling is the model.
Thanks, Daniel 🙏
Yes the plan shape does look similar 👍
@@Danielthemaniel7 That's my one hesitation about this board. The Fling didn't do it for me. It surfed fine but it didn't do anything really well. I love all of Rob's fishy boards but this one has some real Fling vibes haha.
How much do you weigh?
I have just been out of the water for eight weeks because of a minor operation, so I am super unfit and heavy; I'm probably 79kg, 5’11.
To be honest, I would have liked to have bought the 5’4 if it was 30/31 L, but it's 28.8L, and I would struggle to catch waves on it even when I am fitter!
Plus, the 5’6 was the smallest board in the shop.
Because of the width of the nose, it paddles and catches waves better than my Mashup 5’8, which is 32.8L. I think if you are paddle fit, you can go smaller; it catches waves very well.
Robs looks much smaller compared to him than mine does to me. But he is Rob Machado😂 You'll lose a bit of zippiness if you have the longer version; it feels like quite a lot of board. It depends on what you need,😀🤙
I’m about the same height and weight. Felt the 5’6” in store and was kinda beefy. The 5’4” felt more suitable but would be a gamble on floatation.
If you can paddle a 29L, you should go for it. I am still getting over a shoulder injury. It feels a bit bulky, and I think The 5’4 would be better for my ability. But I want to catch waves. It's always a trade-off. But it probably paddles more like a 31L for sure. I didnt have to compare because they only had the 5’6. And I wanted one as soon as Rob's first video dropped. I had it about a month before I could use it; I only could surf it this weekend😃🤙
Maybe you could get a tester?
I bought the 5’6”. Figured too much foam is better than too little. Will take it out tomorrow morning with my trusty keels.
@@10SNE1Nice 🤙 let me know how you get on🙏
