  • The theory is that the wind can get so strong in a tropical hurricane that it can blow a piece of straw through a palm tree trunk. Only this time, they do it with more devastating speed and accuracy than in Mythbusters history!
Using science as a tool, Hollywood special effects experts attempt to debunk rumours, urban legends and popular myths that have captivated the minds of many individuals.

Frankly, the fact that the polygraph suggested plants, eggs, and yogurt had emotions should tell you just about all you need to know about the scientific value of the polygraph.

@@SteOhara They are actually pretty accurate in reality; but there is more than the machine at work. You need someone that knows how to use them properly, question properly, etc... With the entire thing hooked up and done correctly; it's incredibly accurate.
Still not admissible as evidence because it's not 100% though and you can't use a "probably" as evidence, it has to be a straight fact or thing that is fully tangible.
I mean look at the episode of Mythbusters when they try to fool one.

Also all (forensic) science is "probably" based -even DNA matches have probability odds attached to them.

9:54 Grant's right, plants do have feelings and can scream!
I love that he knew that!
(Edit:) Oh, he's basing it on shaky ideas as opposed to the scientific research that does show this. My grandpa, a scientist, researcher, and professor in the field of agriculture knew this when I was little (many) years ago. 😊
If you who are reading this comment are curious, look up "The Nature of Things" episode "What Trees Talk About" by scientist and science communicator David Suzuki & the CBC where the researcher they interview discusses this... she's spoken of as having discovered this for the first time which irks me given my grandpa knew, but I'm glad one of the many things he knew but didn't have the time to write a paper about, is finally becoming better known. 🙂

i dont think those are "sentiments", its more about warning other plants of the same species around them for a fire or any other danger

When they were editing this episode and included the sequence where they complain about the producers wanting the palm tree changed for one more accurate to the myth, I wonder if they realised how _bad_ a look for Jamie and Adam this was. Like, the producers are being fairly reasonable in expecting that the myths they're testing are being tested under the most accurate conditions they can replicate, but Jamie and Adam are griping and making out the producers are being unreasonable because "We spent a long time putting the wrong palm tree down range".

plants being able to feel things is very real. lot of religons belive that life is connected and it is. i don't believe in some "higher power", but i do understand how concept of universe works. that's why power of postive/negative thinking is a thing.
i call it "life force". it's just energy that human tech haven't yet been able to detect. this is where "concept of god" is coming from, reason why prayers work if you really want them to, it's not some higher power god doing it, it's just your brain using that energy for your own advantage.
just because your prayer worked, doesn't mean god granted it to you, it's just your way of connecting to that energy and using it. there have been lot of tests that prove it's real, but thing with those tests, is that if you start to show off, then it doesn't work as your mind tells you that this is just for show-off and you don't really need it, which is why most of those controlled tests fail.
less you brag about it and less you measure it, the better it works.
if you'd be able to take full control of your mind, then basically you'd become god. you could use that energy to make anything happen.
plants and other living things are also connected to this energy. don't think of it as some "magical power" or "mystical nonsense", think of it as gravity or dark matter, you know it's there, because it effects you, but you can't really prove its existence. life force is same concept, human tech is just too primitive to detect it.
if in medieval times you would have tried to explain what a radio, tv or a computer is, you would have probably ended up hanging or burned alive.
just like nowday people will probably laugh at my concept, only cuz they don't understand it.
