Not only the metallic flakes being missing from the resin, but the fact that it doesn't say "Gameboy" on the top part of the plastic was a dead giveaway for me. It just says "game' lol
Also the fact that the original is a gameboy color cartridge, which is very different to an OG gameboy cartridge, this fake crystal uses the OG cartridge style.
In a way, these repro carts have the potential to be better than the original cart, not having to change the battery.
That's what I'm hoping. Obviously the game will save at first, but I'm interested in the save longevity of these. Will it hold your saves at least as long as the original, or longer? Regardless I'll be using the mega memory card as backup
Oh boy! I can’t wait to play Pokémon Silver on my
G A M E
I love how the repro carts just says "GAME". It just gives them all a delightfully cursed feel!
The save lag is from the interesting process that repros use for saving, it uses flash to preserve the saves forever
Edit: game bugs and other hardware issues can cause loss of save
@@christopherharv yea no flash chips would die sooner or later I edited my comment
@3:38 Charizard looks like a Magmar eating dodrio and digglits 😂
I personally don't want to spend 50 or higher bucks for an old game so getting this for me is a win
And those ones who knows how far gone the save battery is. Even the ones that say "new save battery" how much can you trust their soldering job? And even then it will fail again at some point in the future. Some other commenter here says these knock offs use a "flash" method of saving which saves it forever.
I love these it's a good idea if you're original cartridge died they use flash memory for saving instead of the stupid battery backup of the originals
A common complaint I hear about those reproduction carts is that in-game time doesn't progress when it's off, for Gold and Silver anyway. But I noticed that the cartridges don't have batteries in them, and i'm guessing they use flash or some similar method of saving, but there's a place on the PCB to install a battery. I wonder if the clock would function properly if a battery was soldered in. Has anyone tried this?
I am honestly disappointed that nobody has given an answer to this question yet.
@@allthelonely4287 no there's no place to put on the place he's referring to is a flash memory built into the chip you solder a battery over it you just don't have a saving function it will ruin the flash component
@@peaceanlovengodwetrust5053 so the real time clock wouldn't function if you put a battery in one of these cartridges?
@@allthelonely4287 nope no place to stick it the top of the original carts where battery goes why these fakes use a 1/2 size board they use flash save states and there's literally no room I picked up the Crystal off eBay was going to try it myself but anywhere you put it it's on top of something it's going to short out and not work anymore put it over the flash save components it's not even going to save progress.
To me it would make no diffrence having an 3rd party reproduced copy of the game or just an rom out of the internet, to me getting "fake" versions of it is just a waste of money but I guess you could play it for cheap on your gameboy again, what Im trying to say is that those reproduced ones have no collecting value to me and if I wanted to save money I would just get an rom
Especially if you can get your hands on a flash cart with a functional RTC. Then you could load it up with the ROMs for all the games, and play them on original hardware if you wanted to. I intend to get my hands on all the original copies, but I already know that most (if not all) of them will have dead batteries that'll need replacing. A flash cart would allow me to play without needing to fix them first.
This is an interesting review because I keep getting advertisements for the games as well from AliExpress and I wasn't sure if these would even be able to play on a Game Boy Color I feel like if you're not really a collector and you're just getting into the games and you just want them to play or you just want them to maybe give to a kid who may not understand the value of the real ones so this is pretty cool to see I wish you would make a video of the Pokemon green and what that looks like because I hear the original Pokemon green is only in Japanese so they made an English version that'd be pretty cool for people in the US who have never played the game
I don't know if we bought them from the same person or not, but I also bought them online, and they look identical. I was looking for the actual versions, but not enough information or pictures to tell that they were counterfeit, until arrival and opening. For mine it actually reads Nintendo Gameboy at the top, but the rest looks the same, the color, the picture, etc., but above all, the opening at the bottom of the game where the cartridge is. I just found out that any and every Pokemon in the pc is basically not there. When you try to withdraw any they show up with no name in the pc, and when you try to look at there information, or even withdraw one the game freezes. I also contacted the seller and he said that he would give me a refund upon return, but to return them it cost over $50 just for shipping, so in the end obviously returning wasn't worth it, as the shipping would have cost more than double what I paid for them in the first place. Just be careful when purchasing, if you don't already know whether it's legit or not.
I’m going to buy those for myself, just as long as it saves, and if they can trade Pokémon between games, I’m fine with it
you can save and trade I just want to know if the screen is stuck in that small mode or can it actually go wider u know on the sp
@@azgrafflife Yes. You can. That’s something you can do with all GB/GBC games.
I have original Yellow and Gold, and would certainly not buy all original just to lost save after the years, so this fake ones are welcome to the collection. And even better: the save without battery, so win-win.
The gen 1 work fine but all the gen 2 are glitched. Crystal has a Pokédex that will restart your game and gold/silver are playable til you get to lance, it won’t save after the battle so your stuck at the elite four
That's extremely good to know. All of the licenced ROMS can be purchased on the Nintendo 3DS digital store anyway
I got pokemon crystal. Very different looking cartridge. One wild pokemon used a berry. Doesnt keep time or day
Looks like they updated or modified some stuff. This batch doesn't work in Pokemon stadium. New batch does work and includes another cartridge: Clear crystal.
I purchase them so I can use the Pokemon in the expansion PAK for Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 lol now those cartridges are real.
@@DFRNTVIEWSTV latest version -2020.5 on the board, and onwards- do work. Every single one before that date will not. Look for my other comment i explain it all there.

so i have pokemon ROMs brown and prism cartridges, they dont save but play just fine. Or it says it does but doesnt. No battery inside, is there anyway to save them and be able to play them????
Hi there the link is broken and I see a lot of options on eBay
Do you know who the specific seller was (besides for Mr Zhang)
I bought these and have only tried crystal so far but the Pokédex says I have 82 owned Pokémon and crashes if I try to scroll through them all. Unplayable

Not sure if you're aware but there's also now cartridges of that Game Boy color pokémon Black floating around
I bought a fake version on eBay and it’s been almost 3 years and my game still is saved
does anyone know how to extract the save from one of these to use in a legitimate cart? i have a joey jr coming hope i can use that
The fakes or copies have saving glitches and errors, causing you to start over from day 0
Those speckles is a thing we call glitters.
Loved that look
Love gameboy have gameboy so hoping one day I can get a emarled and gold for it love vid your awsome
So I made it to elite four on fake gold version and can't get past it because when I beat lance and do the hall of fame it saves but doesn't actually save anyone know how to get passed it? thanks
I know in regular pokemon games after you beat the elite four it sends you back to your house
Same problem in crystal clear (Not featured in this video but included in the deal if you buy on Ali as 2020). Green behaves normally.
@@michellefernandez3155 yeah. So was it these carts fault or did he just not have the knowledge on pokemon
If you have collected like 10 Pokemon and deposit them to bills PC their names become glitched after saving and turning off the game then turning back on the game, when you try to withdraw a Pokemon from bill's PC the game crashes. I own two reproduction Pokemon games so there is a flaw, good for the price but 3 stars for them over cons but pros for under pricing
Thanks for the advice man, i remember when my dad got me my first gameboy advance sp black and i played my little heart out and then, my cousin broke it can i was sad. Now i have enough money to buy one
How do u tell if their fake like on ebay
Did you play the hole game to make sure it works
Can't find the seller on eBay. Did you buy all together for 20 or individually
How you can tell these are fake:
1.) The top is supposed to say GAMEBOY and not GAME. LMAO
2.) The color of the cartridges on these fakes is like almost painted on, as if all the cartridges were ONE specific color and then painted red, blue, green etc. The originals look and feel like the cartridge is made out of that color right out of the factory.
3.) Pokemon Crystal version is unique amongst the GB and GBC era Pokemon games. Crystal doesn't only have the spots or speckles infused into the crystal, transparent, blue cartridge (like the youtuber mentioned on this video when he had it as a little kid) but it also did NOT have an indent where you grasp the GAMEBoy worded part, as the other Pokemon games did have. Crystal actually has it inverted, so instead of an indent (concave-shaped) its a bump (convex-shaped).
4.) The circuit board as the, youtuber showed, takes up the entire space on the inside of the cartridge and not half of it like these fake show (Also it has a battery as also pointed out).
4.) Last but certainly not least and probably the most obvious, and therefore hilarious way you can tell these lot of Pokemon games are fakes (or any others that are online, if you're looking to buy real ones) is Pokemon Green. That version was only ever officially released in Japan. So any "version" in English is not just a blatant fake, its a FAKE of a FAKE. Lol!!! 🤣 Nintendo never officially ported the original Japanese Pokemon Green, so if you play/buy a Pokemon Green in English its really just a hacked version of either Blue or Red (which were the only two to actually be ported by Nintendo for western release).
And that's all folks!! But again this is for people that want to collect the originals, if its too expensive (which it can be) these fakes are cool to buy. 😎
About number 4: Nah they took some fan traslation of real green and put it on the catridge.
You can tell right away that if you use super game boy, or if you play that game long enough.
Now the real mess is Crystal Clear (Not featured in this video but as 2020 included in the deal if you buy on Ali Express) because the rom is just plain weird. All of it.
You start with nonsensical Pokemon at level 50, the elite is hard AF and just with luck you can survive that and sometimes you enter a room -lets say safari zone- and appear in pallet town when you exit.
I saw a brand new crystal version shrinkwrapped in it's original box for over $7000 on ebay
I think i'll give these a go
Anyone know if you can play both Jhoto and Kanto regions on gold silver and crystal ones?
Does anybody know if you can trade in between? I wanted to get a few to build monster teams on the pokemon stadium games lol... anyone know if these games will allow that?
I’ve purchased two and had issues with both. Took several hours of play to find the issue.
After several saves, the my pc function corrupts the game. The names are blank and attempting crashing games on both carts.
Does real time clock work on pokemon crystal?
People are going to start buying fake pokemon games because they are over priced is so ridiculous how the people are putting the price to high is so dumb plus if u are a collector stop buying over priced games
3:41 bro that charizard 🤣😭😭😭
i ordered about 20 games on GB/GBC for about 3$ each + a GBC everdrive. The whole thing cost me around 100$ and I have literally a full library of games to play without any issues whatsoever.
Retro game prices are ridiculous.
yellow version doesnt make it past the 3rd badge without glitching out.....
so whats the differences between og and repro?
Any update on whether or not you can FOR SURE trade/battle with them?
Also someone is in the comments here saying these cartridges save using a "flash" which apparently keeps the save forever? I want to hear more about the longevity of the save, not just "will it save once" but will it keep the saves for years, decades?
Also, I don't suppose the same old glitches work for Red and Blue? That would be crazy
Ok, Ive been playing G S C with my friend and I have only found one glaring issue (if it is solvable please let me know):
You cannot save after beating Lance at the Pokemon League. Instead of Transporting you to New Bark, it will take you back to right before the lance battle.
Also the clock feature doesnt work properly as it wont run congruent with actual time. Instead itll skip hours depending on how long you play the game and then save. It will also skip between three days when toggling the map (Sun --> Wed; Mon --> Thurs, etc.). But honestly this does not really effect gameplay, only thing is that nights and days are waay longer.
Positives: TRADING IS 100% POSSIBLE! I have traded multiple times between the two copies, and between crystal, and it works as it should. You just need a link cable, obviously. I was worried when the game shop who sold me the repro (yes they told me it was a repro, I knew full well) said there was no trading. However, I tested it just in case bc people said online that it would work and bam, it did!
I will update if battling works, as I have not yet battled my friend
@@pikablu_25 yooo!! I ran into this same problem. I just beat Lance and it brought me right back to where I last saved. Have you found a resolution to this yet? I’d love get the SS Aqua ticket and continue playing
@@GraysonAB no i just ended buying a real copy on ebay, it took a bit but they arent too expensive if u just add "recently added" on your filters
I was only interested in the green version but you didn't boot it up :( I wonder where they get the carts with the screw hole in the top middle instead of the bottom. The new flashcards don't have rtc since they do not have a battery so thats a big negative if you are playing gen2. Some of these aftermarket boards you can solder a battery on and get rtc to work but I think that's for gba only. I don't think you can with gbc
So does it have a battery?
They dont need it. They have a bridge where the battery is supposed to be, and the black dot in the board is where the save is stored. Kinda like a save state.
Basically the same trick they do in replica advance ones.
@@michellefernandez3155 So it means this fake game cartridges are better than the original one? You are rekt with the original one when the battery is EOL.
@@tumtum-7260 It means that if you dont care about pokemon stadium 1/2 (Repros are unplayable there, most of the time) and/or get some repro rom corrupted because you attempted a trick -like cloning pokemon- that works in an original but not here, go for it.
BTW if you manage some medium-advanced knowledge like the Mew Glitch or doing ACE they work perfectly fine here. (In fact G/S/C cant be finished with the repro as is: You need to do ACE to ¨finish¨ ´em. RBY work perfect as repro. SGC not so much. Bugged af.
My advice: get everything as a repro, except yellow and crystal.
Do they save after beating the Elite Four?
I have them all! Even the Japanese Versions! So worth it. The originals are expensive.
Well It loads normally shows the normal two pokemon fighting then just crashes
If the stickers on the cartriges are changed with more accurate ones(especially Red and Silver) they might look like the originals
Also, do they work with Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2 on the N64?
@@neves188 They do wtf. I have mine from months now and all work.
Maybe it depends of the batch you order?
They look nothing like real ones the plastics wrong, all the 2nd gen have a glitter effect in the plastic. They all say game at the top aswell which is wrong.
You can test this carts in pokemon stadium 2 with the transer pack
Question: I bought one of these for Pokémon gold but the game won't save do you have any idea how to fix it?
They have an issue... From what i experienced from mine, they waste alot of battery energy while saving and saving takes a bit more time... plus, if your battery is low and your game boy shuts down while saving, you will lose your saved game... Happened to me twice... its anoying!
That happens with real carts too. It’s because saving takes more power from the system. It’s not the fakes.
the silver version is just a print out [badly done] of the original label.
Difference between the real and fake:
1) the fakes weight less
2) at the cartridge opening there is a hole into the cartridge when they are fake
3) real ones are shinier
4) when you save games in fakes the music stops, in reals they don’t
- I’ve bought a lot of fakes just because I don’t care if they aren’t worth much, I don’t buy them for that. I do it for the nostalgic game play. Plus the real ones are way to expensive. I bought a legit Pokémon red for 80 dollars.
Hey does anyone know if the batteries on these games last forever or die within 10 years
Isn’t pokemon fire red a gba game?
Don't worry about the game freezing while saving I have a reproduction pokemon ruby and it does that
I have the fake green one and it doesn’t save I’m still in paler town
This does put a smile on my face
but do the games work?
Me: Wow this seems oddly nor-
Quinny: LETS CATCH THAT PIKA BOY
I could never trust the fake cartridges especially when I saw someone wanting to play Pokémon Gold and god dr Mario 😂 I’d rather spend the 80$ for peace and mind they hold there value so to each there own
see I want to get these for now because I already have a Red and Blue on the way both the real thing and I also have a Gold. I want to get all of them at some point.
Can you trade Pokemon on these? Or battle?

Longang will luv you long time 😉
is there a way to buy real genuine copies of the og games? i use to have them back in the day but i no longer have them except i found gold silver and crystal with a gbc at a yard sale a couple years ago.
Best way is to never buy under 30 bucks and also read the description if it says reproduction anywhere don't buy (on eBay) if it doesn't buy and test it if it's fake you can get your money back for being scammed
Look around locally. You’re insane, if you think you can find legit copies for reasonable prices online.
