If we hadn't have had "Thrill" then we would never have had "Alone", two huge milestones in BAND-MAID's early years. Now over a decade later they're still providing us with all the awesome music you'd ever want :)
This is the first time I've heard this version of "Alone" from the Studio Coast show. Kanami's solo, which is one of my favorites, sounds just as good on this recording as it does from the studio recording. What a pro she is.
Hi Johnny! There is no captions on the video because it's not an official live MV off their site. This is a pirated rip from a DVD (the Studio Coast live DVD that came with the limited edition version of the "World Domination"album). They have never released a live of "Alone" on YT. "Alone" was released in 2016 and is a historic landmark for the band. It was the first self written song their label allowed to be released (on the album "Brand New Maid"). They have wrote most of their own stuff since.
You can tell it's an older concert because Akane still has the tiny hat. I believe this is from 2017. I love both versions of "Alone", but I think I might like this live version more, as you can hear Miku's vocals al lot better. I'm hoping that you get better soon, and thanks for doing these reactions when your health is not at its best. 👍
I agree with your comments, Band-Maid is such a great band. I have seen them live and I basically have their albums on repeat anytime I'm listening to music. Sorry to hear you are having health issues, hope you get better soon. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
This 2017 Shinkiba Studio Coast concert, and the 2018 ZEPP concert, are two of the best played, performed and recorded concerts ever! With an incredible song list, all rockers should make every effort to watch them both.
Your comment about the cohesiveness of their songs is spot on and it comes from them being primarily composed by a single member (Kanami). Then the individual contributions from each member within the composition Kanami outlines is what has helped keep things so interesting. I think what sets their songs apart is it appears (at least externally) that they really keep their creative egos in check, everyone gets featured frequently and if anything I think most fans would say Kanami is almost too happy to minimise her parts in some songs (low in the mix, keeps solos short and sweet, etc). One other thing I think is very underrated in their compositions is the work done to maintain a distinctive 'Band Maid sound' while exploring different genres, getting more proggy/complex over time, etc. They've still lost some fans as their sound evolved, but it hasn't been such a jarring change like has caused a hard split in the fandoms of many bands over the years. As others have mentioned this one is significant as it is the first Band Maid song composed by Kanami their management allowed/approved.
Image the management company execs when they heard this song for the first time. It was the first tune that the company allowed the Maids to write, produce, and record. It's like they dared the Maids to prove that could produce a "good" rock song. They may have said to themselves, "WTF, okay you can write and record you own songs."
Once they were left "Alone" by their record / management companies to create what they wanted, well, look what they did. Alone's somewhat sad, heavy, yet empowering story (topics Miku's known for writing about), against Kanami's up-tempo, complex, yet rockin' music, is quintessential Band-Maid. BAND-MAID is an important influence and contributor to the music industry with a continuous, growing worldwide fanbase. But to me, they are just the best sounding, best writers of hard rock music, and the most fun, joyous group of musicians to come along since the Beatles, imxo! Thx, Johnny!
First time hearing this one live. Awesome as usual. It is saying something when you have very high expectations and they always meet or exceed them. First song written and arranged by the Maids. Haven't looked back since.
This is a great song in terms of composition, performance, arrangement, and everything else.Just listening to this one song shows their incredible talent and future success.
This is a signifecant in BAND-MAID history. As it is the first song the band wrote and produced that the record company or whoever allowed on an album. That album being there 3rd album Brand New Maid. The rest as they say is history. Try the MV its worth it.
Interesting that you would say that. Mincho writes the song then sends it to Misa, who sends it to Saiki and then programs the rest. Then they make changes.
Great reaction John! I agree with you about everything you stated. Often lost in their music is the part that Miku's voice plays in the vocals. She is so good at backing up Saiki and bringing in those back voices that often are higher or lower than what Saiki is doing and they add so much to hieghten the effect of the music. I just love these women, and I was going to add this is one of my favorites, but hell, they are all one of my favorites. There is just so much to their music and most of it is so well done that it almost passes by unnoticed because it all adds to the overall effect of the music, which is phenomenal!!!
There are so many things to Love in this song, guitar riffs, work of the drummer, the bass line, the solo, all are great. But the best for me is that Saiki and Miku harmony part. I wish they do more harmonies like that. By the way, in the early versions of this song Akane was given much more freedom.
I listen to a lot of different music by different band's. But the truth is that when I hear Band-maid again, they are just better at every element of music in their songs than any other rock bands and possibly most bands in any genre.
This looks like the 2017 "Studio Coast" show and is a very good recording.....I'll be corrected shortly if not. Always watch the music video first, it sets the mood of the song....then watch the LIVE video. Actually do both in the same video is the best. I'm older than you so I'm right.......Lol! ALWAYS remember the LIVE video sound (less fan cams) are run through a studio......so there's that.
I don't think you've reacted to "Moratorium" yet. I consider it to have the most "western rock" style vibes, but with a japanese/eastern crowd participating chorus section. So freaking good live
This "Alone" performance comes from their November 2017 gig @ Studio Coast. Really great rendition, but I would have choosen "Alone"s MV, mainly because this "Alone" live version, (or any other), isn't available on Band-Maid's UA-cam official channel... so your reaction might get taken down.
NOthing wrong with the OMV for 'Alone'. It's great in it's own right. But no, Saki is a drink. Just don't over emphasize the i, or it becomes Sai-icky. It's pronounced like Psyche, (Sigh-Key). Sai-ki.
Sake is what you drink. Saki used to play guitar in Nemophila. She named herself after her favorite horror movie character, the possessed doll Saki from the "Child's Play" movies. That's apparently how they pronounce Chucky in Japan.
This is the first released Band Maid song that was completely written by the band 😁

Truer words have never been written. Probably...😉

BAND-MAID not only have a lead guitarist, they also have a lead bassist, Misa.
Studio Coast… what a sound Mix! 😍 This concert deserves an entire footage and not the edited one that’s missing a few performances.

If you search for "Alone Nekoangel" you’ll find a very well-subtitled version.

@@jjo154 Yeah i agree. It's not often you get to hear the Shinkiba live version of "Alone" (unless you have the concerts already😏).

Thank you!

With MISA, I classify her as lead bassist. For the whole song.
one of the best solo for kanami...kanami is a riff machine riff after riff hel yeah🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much for your sharing!
I love live version too!

I'm agreeing with him.👆
I agree, sometimes I check out other bands looking for music like Band-maid but I end up disappointed and going back to them.
They do this several times, but this is my favourite, Saiki's introduction to Kanami's guitar solo. "3, 2, 1, go!...🔥🎸"
MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
If this song does not make you feel young ever again then you must be dead inside.

Less pausing, more listening
Nope, I react and give my commentary. In fact, there was less pausing in this than most I do.
