If my info is correct, the new engines for the BUFF are the same engines used on the Gulfstream G-650. They are proven engines.Probably why they were chosen. Mike from Mass.
Am I the only person familiar with military spending and operations as well as commercial airline operations that thinks the numbers on this are totally insane?
The fact that the aircraft still needs 8 engines to power it means that each engine isn't that powerful 16,000 pounds of thrust. The new concept RISE engines can run at 0.8 mach and produce 30,000 pounds of thrust, they will not change the entire aviation industry they won't go on a B52 .
In 1970 and beyond dad was stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas. He ran the jet engine shop , B-52's, C-130's and some F=4's on the base. Those B-52's really poured out alot of black smoke especially when taking off. Were they J 57 engines then ? or were those in the F-5's ( T-38's) ??
B-52 A through G had J57's with water injection to boost performance (and huge smoke plumes). The H got the TF33's without the need for water. T-38 and F-5 got the afterburning version of the J85 (originally developed in non-afterburning form for the Quail decoy.
@@andrewstubbs4851 Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Dad joined the USAF back in about 1955, after his 3 year stint in the Marines, Korean War, He was trained as a jet engine mechanic back when they were still kind of new. I remember he worked on cargo plane engines alot early on, then fighter/trainers. At Williams AFB they were T-38/ F-5's, then he did 2 1/2 tours in Vietnam keeping the Hueys flying (air rescue). Always F-4's on the bases where we were at. He later transferred to SAC and mostly B-52's then.
Other than God there's not much that would scarier to know is coming for you other than B-52. You won't even see it as your whole world blows up around you.
30 seconds in and AI gets 👎 whomever posted this needs to get REAL: i doubt the veracity of half these comments, the B-52H entered service in 1961!!!!!!!!! so the engine upgrades were NOT A FACTOR!
8 minutes to repeat what was said in the first 47 seconds. PLEASE!!
Thanks!!

What happened to "Buy American." You telling me that P&W or GE couldn't come up with a suitable replacement engine without buying a British RR?

$49 billion is an absolutely shocking number to keep 70 year old airframes flying.
Glad to see British Rolls-Royce Engines used on the much needed upgrade.
The B52 might become the first immortal jet aircraft, or at least the first centennial jet aircraft.

You may only be someone in the world, but to someone else, you may be the world.
About 15 years ago wasn't there an experimental B-52 that had been fitted with only 4 engines?
Great to see b52 still going strong
What a wash! Tired of stupid titles and no substance on what it says.
Interessting presentation ...what an effort :)

Interesting that they are resurrecting the space shuttle for a new bomber cockpit…rubbish, can’t believe I let this suck me in
Haven't they had the "H" for a couple of decades now?
