Common names may vary for this species, but I believe the are often referred to as New Zealand longfin eels.

It's a nice generous gesture, Yes. I hate to say it but even if the billionaire never donated the money those kids have already succeeded in life. They're getting a high quality education out of nice accredited school going into prestigious medical career fields. Even if they have debt after graduating they will have well paying jobs to pay it off. Don't let them fool you with the students joy. The money technically is not going to the students it's going to another millionaires account.
It's also sad because instead of fixing the problem of student debt, this is just a cover up. Or should we all depend on private wealthy citizens to "fix" the problems of our society instead of our elected officials.
At the end of the day it's a good deed and your giving the kids a head start in their post graduate life. I guess now they can use the money saved into a better home or car. Maybe some students will be motivated to donate to the less fortunate, like those that don't even have access to an education.
