I never had the pleasure of the Anime Yamato, but after seeing this movie all I can say is I am really missing something. The ending almost left me disappointed, then seeing Yuki having Kodai's child left a tear in my eye. The ending I had hoped for.
bestanime.com has Yamato2199... It's a revamping of the original and it is FANTASTIC... I grew up on the original Star Blazers(as we called it) and it was good for the... The new one is far better... Worth the look... Sub titled...
+Potrimpo The 2010 movie was made combining elements from season 1 and the movie "farewell yamato" from the original series.. is separated from the original series .. Now you have 2199 wich is a remake based on the original series 1 but inmenselly much better writen, made and with much more sense.. (pretty much like the modern Battlestar Galactica series was to the old one). For now there is the entire series of 26 episodes plus one movie (Oddysey of the star voyaging ark) and rumors that a second series is on the making based on the original series 2 (the comet empire)
I remember the starblazers series I was glad when it was turned into a live action movie toho studios should come out with another part with Kodi as the captain again 😅
I just think that captain okita wasnt given enough justice in this movie. All of the characters are ok for me though there are hell lots of inaccuracies. Like originally yuki is blond. And kodai never died. But what bugs me about captain okita is that his heroism was not given enough emphasis. All it shown is that captain okita is a bed-ridden man. It never showed him being a great tactician and captain. Also his great sactifice of embarking on the journey despite his ailment. Originally he was a great man. One last thing. The backstory of the gamilas and iscandar are waaayyyy from what it really is and felt so rushed. Maybe anime series really should NOT be compressed in a 2 hour long movie.
This adaptation was made ON BUDGET. so many details from the original Anime has to be sorely omitted. - Gamillas and Iscandar are one.... planets and peoples.. in the original Anime. these are twin planets with SOME distances, however gravity fields 'bound' the two planets together and if one planet is destroyed, the other will lose orbital paths to their suns as well (and it DID happened in the original anime but not as Star Blazers, rather as theatrical movie) This live action movie chose this decision to spare them of filming budget, filming 'Iscandar' as a paradise world. and to lessen cast crews (That's why Dessler/Desslok is the only named Gamillas characters and never shown in person beyond chrystallized manifestations, something they DON'T do) - Yuki Mori 'Becomes/posessed by' Starsha Iscandar........ This is a pure pun to their Anime apperances.--Both are created by Leiji Matsumoto back on the day and thus both are 'Blonde Whites with Asian facial features'... Starsha herself was HEAVILY based on one of Leiji's ancestors (whom in turn a granddaughter to Philipp Franz Von Siebold, and hard to believe that Leiji is a japanese that born with White blue eyes. so this might be the reasons why) ourstarblazers.com/vault/37/ Yuki Mori in this movie not being blonde is okay to me (well she's Jap, and in 70s, having 'white japanese' characters are a norm of the Manga and Anime industry, since the actual industry was heavily influenced by American sources--Walt Disney to be exact), but lack of Starsha (or her sister) .... this one is, again budgetry constrains limited casts/actor counts. and precluded an option to add White Blonde to play the role of Starsha. In addition. in the last episode of the first season, Yuki Mori did try to activate the iscandarian Rad Remover thing (called Cosmo Cleaner D or Cosmo DNA). so that's obivious reasons why Yuki 'Becomes Starsha' rather than meet her. Lack of Balun, Bee peoples, No floating continents, and so fourth. - Gamillas have a look of Khalai Protoss from Starcraft.... budgetry again. in the original shows, they ARE humanoids (first ten episodes, Gamillas shares human pink skins appearance, eventually they became blue).
@@matthewvillarde5601 Yes, and there should be a scene where he collapsed in a command console in the First Bridge. and either Kodai or Shima asked him what should they do .... ? (and Dr. Sado took him to his quarters) in the original Anime, Okita had a surgery sometimes before or after an episode that Kodai and co. caught a Gamillas plane and got a POW.
Welcome to Movie Adaptation 101. Do you have a great work of fiction in one medium that you want to adapt to film? You do? Great! Does that work of fiction have lots of great characters, interesting storylines, and intricate backstory? It does!? Fantastic! Now, if you want to be able to make a (at least somewhat successful) film, whose goal is naturally to expose your original work of fiction to a wider audience (and make the studio some money--this isn't a charity after all), then get ready to CUT CUT CUT AND CUT SOME MORE! NOW MASH MASH MASH other stuff together because there's only so much screen-time and audience focus that we can successfully pull off and make a coherent plot! Successful Adaptations will never be 1-to-1 recreations. Ever. It's just the nature of the beast. Comic book versions of classic literature always lack the subtleties of long-form prose. Musical versions of stage plays will always end up with bloated, drawn-out musical dialogues, wherein the original had the brevity of wit. Anytime you watch an adaptation, you have to go in, ready to grade it on it's own merits as presented, without any thought of the original. It has to succeed (or fail) on its own merits. And, after watching this movie, I think they did a pretty good job. I was interested and engaged throughout the entire movie. Did I notice differences between the original anime and the live-action film I was watching? Sure, but I shooed them to the back of my mind and kept focused on the story that the FILM was telling me. Because if I wanted to watch the anime, I could. But I chose a live-action film. And so did you if you watched it.

How do you know that the boy is son of Kudai? They never had sexual relationships during the movie.
After Kodai gives Yuki the order to shoot off the 3rd bridge, they share an intimate moment, just as the ship enters warp...
Hahahahah ok, like rabbits.

A música é show e o Live Action não fica devendo nada pro anime. Perfeito! E ainda tem alguns que "não gostam". Vai saber o (des)gosto musical desses.
