The Albatros is from 1976 and has 4 Exocet missiles. I feel like they might be putting in ships that are a little too "modern" for what else is in there right now. Even though those missiles are nonfunctioning right now, they'll have to be added eventually. And when that happens, the actual WW2 ships are going to be fucked.
They were only just put out of service officially 13 years ago!

They are the most successful gun in all naval history, being used by over 60 nations and coming in different size, variants and platforms, of which two SPAAGs (Self Propelled Anti-Anything Guns) that I hope we will see in the future Italian tech tree.
390 mm of pen APFSDS at 120 rpm are going to make any tank hide in fear at only the name of such units. Like many Wargane: Red Dragon and Armoured Warfare players do already.

From what I've heard, there's also more of an effect when crew are injured, so if a pilot gets hit, sometimes he will not be able to maneuver his plane properly or even go into a flat spin.
You can now also shoot the rudder itself off from the tail try it in a cb with an b17
Yea i had my elevator blown off a lot of times. i also saw more effect from cannon rounds.

Though with the size of the maps i dont know how they would work as most combat is probably inside the Min launch range if we want to be realistic about it.
Mattebubben the maps would be all water anyway so it wouldn't be unreasonable to add a larger optional map

The Fritz X was acttualy used against Allied warships. They sunk the Italian battleship Roma with only 2 bombs and 1 missing, the American light cruiser Savannah covering the invasion of Salerno was hit by a single bomb causing extreme damage leading to hundreds of dead man and hundreds others traped forcing the ship to sail for Malta anmd undergo 8 months of repairs the crew did not know wat hit them, along side Savanah, the British light cruiser Uganda was hit by 1 bomb that penetrated the the upper deck 7 lower decks exiting the ship thru the bottom and exploding in the water just bellow the keel causing 16 dead, boiler fires and 1,300 tons of water forcing to be towed to Malta, 2 merchant ships were also hit but evidences were uncertain, the British battleship Warspite was hit by 1 bomb penetrating 6 decks exploding in the boiler room a second bomb near missed the ship eventualy filled with 5,000 tonnes of water and lost all power it was also towed to Malta and than to Britain for 9 months of repairs, the last atack was against the light cruiser Philadelphia but the 2 bombs near missed
lucky for the world that the germans did not had this bomb early in the war, and also did not had to many of them. the landing in france would be way harder with more of those bombs

Ships sure are weird, sometimes they can take ungodly beating and sometimes they just go up like its fourth of july in the Bikini Atoll just from few well placed shots...

I knew about the German cruise missiles. But guided bombs being developed in the 30s? Always amazes me how quickly air combat evolved after the first plane took off the ground.
germans also developed a range of ground to air missiles. Rheintochter, Wasserfall and others.

If you think the guns in the Albatross are gross wait until everyone uses them. The Otobredas are one of the most widespread naval gun in the world, with over 60 navies using it togheder with the more advanced variant (also used as an AA piece and in SPAAGs).
If only bombs were performing correctly. :/ honestly hitting the engine room with a Fritz X should disable / kill in game a ship.
Historically if it exploded in the engine room it would cause flooding the cold water hitting the hot engine would cause a rather large boom. bum bombs also under perform, if they land under the ship some times they will not kill a ship. it is really frustrating.
The Japanese AP bombs were really not working in game too well, and again historically one of them going into a light cruiser? to quote Aliens: "Game over man"
I feel it is just a wonkey physics issue for bombs sadly.

I honestly hope there will be battleships implemented, at least battle cruisers. Not on the current maps, but it would give much more variety to the game. And the torpedoes are kinda useless right now (they can work very well I know). But when the subs will come they will be the perfect counter against bb’s

Mcbeefatron well they did a ships april fools, and there were ships. There was an april fools with modern tanks, there are modern tanks, and gaijin has confirmed they’re working on helo’s. There was an april fool’s with subs... you can figure it out
Flemming Vandersteen i do see your point but if they add subs they would have to add bigger ships i would think. They say battleships wouldnt work but wows did it so i think warthunder should be able to even with a damage model not hp
The only problem with subs is their speed. No WW2 sub (except the German type 21) could exceed like 7-8 knots while submerged, and even surfaced they’d struggle to get anywhere near 20.
And keep in mind the speed of the torpedoes. The Japanese type 95 torpedo were the fastest submarine launched torpedo at 47 knots. That means it would take well over 3 minutes to strike a ship just 5km away. I’m sure all but the dumbest of players will turn at least once in 3 minutes. And that’s at just 5km, imagine longer ranges.
It just wouldn’t work because you need complete surprise over your opponent, and by simply being in a battle the enemy knows someone in a submarine could be there.

Dude, when's the last time you played arcade? Reloading bombs, guns, cannons, and missiles are completely intended. Realistic and simulator battles are the only places that you have to land to reload something. This will obviously carry over for ship battles.
Most of these War Thunder UA-camrs only play realistic. And they make fun of Arcade players or call them noobs for playing a gamemode they prefer more over theirs. I don't think Phly have ever done that, but many others. Such as OrangeDoom and OrangeFan.

It's pretty interesting that in real life they enlarged the tail fins to get that thing to slow down otherwise it would break the sound barrier. It actually slams through all decks and explodes on the bottom so technically you can jump from the steering wheel in the ocean. Beautiful!

Can you imagine the desperation in those sailers' hearts when they spotted a bomber in ww2? I'm generally not a person to loose it but on a ship , with nowhere to hide or run? I would've lost it in the instant. Big big respect for any military sailer lol , they literally are part of the ship till the end , there's no getting out of it as it could happen on land warfare.

Yes, you van actually hear it drool, once Mr and my friends were in Tunisia, realistic battles we were attacking the A point when we sage this HE 111 H-6 above us and we heard this death whistle come down on us, I saw the Fritz X itself and one of my friend got ammo-racked and the rest of us were critically damaged a truly scary experience

One of those things blew up the Italian battleship "Roma" in 1943 when the Italian navy was on the way to be surrendered to the Allies. The crew thought the bomb wasnt gonna hit them because it was dropped way too early until it was too late. It was the first use of a guided bomb ever.

Very nice intro! It would be interesting to see the impact in the ship on sea level. The Fritz-X was so fast, that it has to be time fused to detonate inside the ship. Without time fuse it was so fast that it went through the ship without detonation. Crazy shit!

Also you might not know that the 2 76mm gun on the Albatross are italian guns from OTO melara.
Italy and germany will be plenthy of those boys from patroller like the Albatros to the italian Audace class with 4 of these rapid fire 76mm guns + 2 127mm gun (also fast reloading)
Those are 76mm/62cal Oto Melara Compact naval guns. They have 80 rpm....the newer 76mm Super Rapid version has 120rpm and can kill missiles and the newest Strales has anti missile manouvering projectiles called DART for killing the lastest missiles

i think the reload in air is fine. considering the length of the average battle, and the AA capabilities of those ships. landing and taking off multiple times would get you killed or waste 10 minutes of your time climbing back to altitude. perhaps they could limit it to 3 reloads.

I knew they would add this sooner or later watched a documentary on it one day after playing strictly german bombers in sim for bombing runs and said they should add it to the game thought it was cool.
I did my service on a Gepard-class fast attack craft, wich is basically the same as the Albatros. Strange to see them in a video game...

I counted the number of Fritz-X hits.
7 hits total. 4 kills, 3 critical wounds. Only one hit may have been an AoE hit rather than a direct hit but i can't tell for certain.
Pretty damn good accuracy and damage.
