Maury was a brilliant musician. He studied piano from 9 years of age. We both lived in the old neighborhood and had the same piano teacher. I still remember standing outside after a piano recital. "Hi Robin...I just wanted to say goodbye, I'm going on tour with Jim Croce". He was so happy. Such a kind humble young man. He was 23 I was 17. I had a lot of respect and admiration for him. He was a musical genius. Rest easy my dear friend and neighbor. We still miss you.

Although I have just discovered Maury and this wonderful album, I am almost in tears as I listen to this song and knowing that Maury was taken from this world far too soon. For this world needs more people like Maury Muehleisen.

This was and is my very first LP. It filled my mind with images that have stuck with me during my entire life.

What a great tune, seems to tells us what brought him to Jim's music. Maury had so, so much talent...a guitar beast, a singer, a songwriter...and don't tell me he played harmonica too-my head will explode. Maury took Jim's songs and gave them that urgency and "push" that elevated each transition in Jim's tunes-a master musician by his twenties. Sick.

Maury and Jim were scheduled to perform at my alma mater (Grove City College) that fall semester of my freshmen year back in '73. I was very familiar with Jim's music, but liked getting to know Maury's music as well... RIP guys...

This song is so meaningful to me. The analogy (or at least my own interpretation) appears that the song is a person. The person made him feel a certain way, just like certain songs can grab us and move us.
The song is beautiful and genius. Maury was a man wise beyond his years and I fell in love with him for it. I hope my soul meets his someday.
    I hear the song.

I know that Jim was going to leave the business according to his last letter to Ingrid, makes me wonder about what Maury would be doing had not the fates took them from this world. So talented as a guitarist and sweet vocals, I would like to think Maury would have succeeded. Jim as well in the path he would have chosen.

Gingerbreadd is better than James Taylor's first album and Joni Mitchell's. Apparently he was all set to make a second record before the crash. The world was robbed of the great songs he never got to write. This song's my favourite Maury track - isn't it a metaphor for finding love as an adult, the kind you got as a child?
