I’ve had one for about a month and thoroughly enjoy it. Getting back into chess after a couple of decades. Level two is what I’m using and for me is very challenging. Highly recommended for it’s simplicity and its solid playing skills. Warning, it will expose your weaknesses but it also makes you better.😎
I agree 100% and just recently started playing again as well. Thanks for your comment. I think I'm going to do a short video update now that I own it and played it more. 👍
I have one, too. Very unique chess computer. I love the adaptive levels. It's very strong on Expert level, probably in the 2800-3000 range. The Friendly and Challenging modes do a nice job adapting to your strength.
Well, I'm sure I'll just give it a shot at Expert level, but I'm nowhere near that level! Been playing quite a bit on this board lately and I just love it!
Very happy to see this recommendation by someone who doesn't normally do chess videos. I also have this one and I agree with your review. I also agree with not using the hints. I think it's better to evaluate your mistakes and learn that way. Otherwise, it becames a soulless and boring exercise in memorization rather than engaging creativity.
Thanks! Just wanted to keep it simple, but if you have any questions about it there's plenty I left out since I rambled on too much! Lol! Still loving the board. Keeps me up late, as you can probably tell by my voice. Lol. Take Care!
Thanks very much! I know, great board. I plan on doing a video on the DGT Smartboard, but waiting for chesshouse to check it out and get it back to me working...so far, it has been a struggle. Thank goodness for the Centaur!
I'm seriously considering purchasing a Centaur. I love the simplicity of. Just wondering, while I've read reviews of players saying they've won against the computer at the " Friendly " mode, I've read others saying that after a fair number of games, they still have not won any. I understand you have suceeded. Kudos. After several years, are you still enjoing it, and secondly, can you play by taking a piece away from computer , to " balance" the game if need be ? Thank you. . . love your videos.
Yes, it can be frustrating at first to beat the board. However, it really pushes you to work a little harder to become a better player. It's a great feeling when you start defeating it. I'm not sure about taking away pieces to gain an advantage. You do have the ability to take back a move, so that helps. I just played a game on it yesterday, and it was fun and simple. It's sleek. I hope this helps.
I've Subscribed with all Notifications on, Thank You! PLEASE, I must have more info on what DGT "Offers - Means!" I personally have not been able to find info out about the capabilities of analysis, computer record, and replay with computer recommendations for having made better moves, to have played the last game better. I anxiously await your reply. THANK YOU!
Whew, that's a lot to cover! Lol I guess the first thing I can say is I'm no expert on the engine built into this board. The best I can tell you is that the computer adjusts its playing style according to your playing style. I have found it to be quite challenging and fun to play. From my experience, this is the best DGT board made in terms of simplicity. I had 2 other "advanced" boards and had nothing but problems with it. Paul at chesshouse.com had to get tired of hearing from me, but wasn't impressed with those ridiculously priced boards. If you're looking for something more challenging and give you access to online playing, I also purchased the Millenium Kings Exclusive, yes more expensive but I really love it! Hope that helps.
Good video. I’ve heard even the friendly level on this can be downright brutal. I’d be this in a heartbeat if I knew i could enjoy it on friendly and work my way up. What’s your opinion? I’m just an average joe, I like the game, but no formal “training” or club level experience. Thanks
Hi, in my opinion it is a great board for anybody. It will play you on Friendly mode and hopefully the AI will play according to how well you play. It's very intuitive!
What folks may love to know is: What is the cost of this version? [Is there a super discount for poor old pensioners like me who would love one of these...but don't have the money at present] . Also, what is its playing strength [i.e. its ELO?], and what version of Stockfish or similar program does it use? At the time of this comment, we're up to version 17, I believe!
@mikestubbs1708 currently I believe you can get the board for around $350 US. Not sure about the discount! Lol. It is Stockfish 9 to the best of my knowledge, which has never been an issue for me since the highest estimated ELO is 3000. I personally don't need Stockfish 17. Stockfish 9 is extremely strong and should not be underestimated just because newer versions of Stockfish are released. I stopped chasing the carrots and am completely content.
Just got mine and the circle lights do not come on when I move my piece or to tell me which piece the computer wants moved. I bought this to teach my ten year old granddaughter how to play chess so I'm about to send it back. Is there something I'm not doing correctly?
Hi, thanks! The battery life is so long that I honestly can't tell you. I can get several games in with no problem, and usually still plenty battery power.
Hi, I got them from Amazon. Going to mention them in my next review of the Millennium Board. TOMOL lights from Amazon. Under $14 with tax, takes 4 AA batteries but I run it off of a simple battery pack via the supplied USB cable. Thanks for checking it out!

I love the centaur. And you don’t need a smart phone to connect to it.
Good point! Just play chess without interruption. Thanks for the comment!
A great video, I will get one soon. Thank You!

I investigated a little more, it sounds like a defect to me. Sometimes you get a bad apple, sorry you're having this experience.
Hello. Great video. Can you give me more info about the battery life.
Hi, thanks! The battery life is so long that I honestly can't tell you. I can get several games in with no problem, and usually still plenty battery power.
Where did you get those desk lamps?
