    Assalamualaikum,
Many parents and students often ask me about the difference between Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science and O-Level Computer Science. Today, I want to clarify this by discussing the similarities and differences between the two in this video.
Firstly, let's talk about the syllabus. Both exams require students to sit for two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. In Paper 1, students need to study topics like data representation, data transmission, hardware, software, the internet and its uses, along with a topic on emerging technologies. Paper 2, on the other hand, covers algorithm design, problem-solving, programming, databases, and Boolean logic. For databases, the topic is straightforward, and Boolean logic deals with logic gates. However, for algorithm design, problem-solving, and programming, students must have a strong grasp of programming concepts. I recommend learning a programming language such as Python, Java, or VB.net to excel in these areas.
Now, let's discuss the differences and similarities in the assessments. Both papers have a duration of 1 hour 45 minutes, are worth 75 marks each, and carry a 50% weightage. Calculators are not permitted, and both papers consist of short answers and structured questions. However, Paper 2 also includes a scenario-based question, which is crucial. To tackle this effectively, you need to be proficient in writing pseudocode.
The main difference lies in the grading system. For IGCSE students, grades range from 9-1 for syllabus code 0984, or A* to G for syllabus code 0478. In contrast, O-Level students are graded from A* to E.
I hope this explanation clears up any confusion you may have had about the similarities and differences between these two options. To help you further, I’ve prepared a series of videos for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. You can find the playlist links in the comments section below. These videos will be a great resource as you prepare for your exams.
Additionally, I strongly recommend becoming proficient in a programming language and mastering pseudocode, especially for the scenario-based questions. There’s also a playlist available for a quick recap and exam preparation.
Best of luck with your studies! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me through my channel or Facebook group. Don’t forget to subscribe, click the bell icon for updates, and share this with your friends and family.

The grading is based on grade threshold that is decided by the board.
