    Excellent tutorial thank you!!. I have been wanting to get into rel comp testing on hgv here in scotland which could use up to 1000 amps so this way would let me accomplish this. All the best for the year ahead maman

    You can use 60 amp setting turn coupling ac. That will filter out the dc volts and only look at ac volts.

    Hi, Thanx for the video. Can you please let me know if you connected to the negative or positive of battery ? I've watched other videos and they talk about using the low amp clamp on the negative side of the battery .
    Thank You

    • @70corwin
      @70corwin  Рік тому +1

      Doesn't matter either one. I usually go to the ground cable since its usually easier to hook to. There's a arrow on the amp clamp for the direction of current flow. If the waveform is upside down you can just flip the clamp over or use the invert button on the scope.

    Hello! Great video, very helpful. Hard to find this kind of info. If you were looking for a very small amount of current instead of a high amp starter, would you use the same setup, only adjust the vertical scale down to say, 100mv? Or something else? Thank you!

    • @70corwin
      @70corwin  8 місяців тому +1

    Can you explain the settings you use for your trigger on the coil

    • @70corwin
      @70corwin  2 роки тому +1

      There's different ways to do that depending on the leads you have. But this one i just back probed the wire that triggers the coil or the control wire whatever you want to call it with channel 2. Its the wire goes from the ECM to the coil. It was on a 10 volt scale but the actual trigger of the scope was still triggering off channel 1 the low amp clamp.

    Hey what up my brother I just did a relative compression test on my 1987 Buick grand national and I found cylinder 1 no compression channel 1 amp clamp and channel 2 on injector num 1 control wire the only thing that I notice is my injector firing line is not on the center of the hump don’t know if it’s the way we set the ignition timing we set it to 25 degree after top dead center and then we stab the cam sensor in look like a small distributors don’t know if you familiar with them.reason im asking because on you’re video you’re saying that if the firing line is not on center of hump it a indications that it could be a teeth out on the timing chain don’t know if he applies to every car or my car is different

    • @70corwin
      @70corwin  8 місяців тому +2

      Can't use the injector for that since it doesn't fire at top dead center. Your injectors will be firing normally at the end of the exhaust stroke. You want to use the ignition signal for your sync. Like the number 1 COP on newer cars or number 1 spark plug wire on older ones. They make special leads for the plug wires but you'll still pick up a signal even if you laid your back probe tip against the plug wire maybe tape it on if you have too. Always use the ignition event for your 2 channel or sync.

    I see you didn't used a/c coupling is there a reason why you didn't!? Is AC coupling required if you use a Snap-On lab scope?

    Jaws on the amp clamp are to small for light duty diesel cables. Is there a larger clamp size available ?

    • @70corwin
      @70corwin  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes you can get a high amp clamp which has the bigger jaws. Back in the day you had to use high amp clamps even on cars because of the that.

      @@guzzimon61 Just remember the scaling on that clamp is 1mV/Amp output. So every 1 mv is a amp so set your voltage scale accordingly.

      either battery cable. Negative one is usually easier to hook to but there's a arrow on the clamp for current flow direction. If the waveform is upside down just flip the clamp or use the invert button on the scope.

    6:50 its written 60A max
    doesnt that make it not suitable for relative compression test ?

    • @70corwin
      @70corwin  10 місяців тому +1

      Never had a issue. Been up to 200 amps with it without any problems and you'll see it measure up over a 1000 amps on the initial starter spike at the beginning of the test on some cars. If your worried about it being accurate you can go to the high amp clamp but its always been fine for me. It reads the same as my high amp clamp , Had them both on the same car one on each channel and they were spot on. Plus you can also couple with A/C or even do it with traditional lead set on voltage coupled. I've always preferred this method though!
