There are 2 patens used at Mass. The first, as described; the second, has a handle that the server holds under the chin of a communicant, or under their hands if they receive the host in their hand. This is intended to keep the host from falling to the floor. It does happen.
John you wanna hear something kinda funny? One time when I was an Altar Boy at the now defunct Saint George's Parish in Chicopee Massachusetts, some poor lady accidentally dropped the Host in her purse! All because we didn't use the patens with handles.
@@mikegallant811 We weren't using them at St. Joseph's in Spirit Lake. Then, someone dropped the host on the floor. I told Father about the patens. We already had them in the cabinet. They're now used all the time.
Not to blame anyone but it saddens me no end to see so much gold upon the altar. Surely our Lord used an earthenware cup and I can't imagine He would be impressed by this wealth. I wish we would use ceramics and give the gold to the poor.
Well they are not usually actual gold but only colored that way.
One way of thinking about it is that we are trying to convey that our LORD is worthy of the highest dignity and honor because he is our King.
We help teach proper Fear of the LORD when we do this and people actually learn what we are doing.
We need more of this not less for a society which wants to downgrade our LORD into meaninglessness.

The mass is a joke . Catholics believe they can sacrifice Jesus over and over and over and out him in a waver . We don’t use priest and alters anymore . A person can boldly come to the throne of grace on their own . Their is no such thing as holy water , they pray for the pope and his not the vicar of Christ. , he is a. Imposter . The church is full of idols . Mary is an idol . Jesus Christ is not contain in the churches foolish tabernacle behind their foolish alter .
