    This short video shows a few techniques that we are currently training in the Indonesian Martial Arts class at the Tactical Arts Academy in Austin, Texas. Tuhon (Master Instructor) Leslie Buck, demonstrates techniques from a series called Putar Kepala from the Indonesian martial art, Pencak Silat Mande Muda. Tuhon Buck demonstrates a few variations and offers a few short tips on applying the techniques.
    Instructor Leslie Buck has over 26 years of experience in the Filipino and Indonesian martial arts, self defense, law enforcement, and military training.

    rather than holding so low on the arm push the crook of the elbow with the inside of the forearm, faster spin and its closer to you to go into different locks

      That's a great variation, Aaron. It's also a good back up if your hand slips from the grip on the opponent's arm.

      TacticalArtsAcademy another great variation is from the hubud as an entrance to the putar kepala :)

    So, with the art of silat, you are able to study specific empty hand flavor of FMA, from a different perspective(blending) or do you approach it completely separate initially?

      When I teach the Indonesian Martial Arts, I typically keep the Pencak Silat and the Filipino Dumog separate, so that students know what source and style they are learning. Of course, for personal use and for students who study both, they can often easily blend the two.

      I kind of figured that since this is what we do at IDAPA, sensei eric has us studying under Tuhon Bobby Ladra.
      A beautiful art, the both of them flow so well together.
