    For all of you that are already taking part in a more barefoot lifestyle, what changes did YOU notice with your feet? Might be cool if people heard about more experiences!
    It wild what happens if you start taking your foot health seriously. Over the years my toes stopped touching each other, tendons got thicker, even veins popped out that weren’t visible before. In BJJ my toes almost function like hands!
    UNTAPPED feet will hit the ATG app in the middle of JUNE!

      I taught a lot of Bikram Yoga for 20 years and had my own studio for 12. So I was almost always barefoot and doing a lot of yoga and calisthenics. Then Covid shut me down and for the last four years I've been working jobs that require shoes and so I was even wearing them around the house. I started having insane plantar fascia pain in both feet/heels and could hardly walk. I was told to get shoes with bigger heels and insoles and my feet were still killing me. So for about the last 3 months, I've been wearing my Xero shoes and going barefoot and doing my feet exercises and I feel so much better today. It hurt like hell for the first month or so. I used to be able to run on the treadmill barefoot and now I definitely see myself doing that again. I've also learned a lot from your podcast, thanks!

    Probably the best and most comprehensive video I've seen about foot strength and barefoot shoes.
    I'm no athlete, but train regularly and I've been wearing barefoot shoes for around 4 years now. They have made so much difference to my performance in the gym. After years of knee pain and even surgery, even orthotics as a kid, it took over 30 years to realise my flat feet weren't an issue. I just love the feel and feedback you get from barefoot shoes now and feels strange wearing conventional shows.
    As the video says, you really need to start slow when transitioning to barefoot shoes. When I was preparing to make the change, I started walking around at home barefoot, then short walks 5-10 minutes and keep building from there

    Also, I've been wearing foot shaped shoes for a couples of years in the form of Altra and Topo trail runners, and my feet don't fit into regular shoes anymore, and I STILL struggled with these exercises, so it's not enough to just change the footwear. Thanks for the homework. and the wisdom.

    A shoe has really two functions: making it easier to walk especially on bad surface, and to protect the feet. I would for example not go barefoot on rocky hills. So it is not only for walking but also protection from impact such as falling.

    One soccer player to another, I felt the same way about my kleets. That's awesome you played in college. I grew up playing it most of my life and in high school. I started wearing barefoot shoes about 6 years ago. Feet hurt for about a year most days. Then, I noticed some changes, toes could spread out further, looks like muscle developed in my feet, and now I can't wear regular shoes anymore haha. I need arch support for on cement floors though. I can only buy the barefoot brands that have open toe boxes with arch support. Other than that, if I'm walking in a park or taking a hike in the mountains, I'll wear my barefoot shoes or a barefoot brand of good hiking shoes 👍 safe to say this has helped me with BJJ as well man. Thanks for the video 🙏

It was crazy the difference it made in my running and I realized that I had been running heel to toe instead of using the balls of my feet at all. Ivr been doing the zero drop stuff for about 4 years now, and ita great that these companies are finally starting to produce at a scale where they approach normal shoe costs

    What’s funny is I’m a guy who skateboards pretty often and I wear just about all the big and small shoe brands. I even wear skate shoes casually.
    But when I’m at home I walk around my house and yards barefoot or in sandals and also do all my workouts except running, barefoot.
    I can still do a lot of the stuff on this video. Wiggle my toes, move my big toe independently, walk on my toes, walk on the sides of my feet, and balance on my feet. My feet even have a well defined arch.
    So I wonder if I just got narrow feet that fit into all the shoe brands well or that simply walking around my house and working out barefoot just offsets the foot issues that much.

    One should keep in mind that cushion in the shoe absorbs a lot of the shock that otherwise would go to the knees and back and the lack of it might mess em up if you jump from high/a lot and/or are a heavy person...

    • @NsimaInyang
      @NsimaInyang  3 місяці тому

      That’s why the transition needs to be gradual. The feet should be a strong shock absorber, but most people’s shoes do the job of the feet. Over time the feet get weaker, making us NEED the shoes.

    So, my whole life of 26 years I rarely ever wear shoes, first is because we were so poor that a pair of shoes are considered luxury and second is because I hated the smell of shoes on a hot day.
    I ended up sticking with open toed sandals and of course wide fitting shoes if necessary, I have to thank my father for this because his grandmother was a victim of foot binding and she taught her kids to never let shoes ruin your feet, she lived her last few decades in extreme agony of not being able to properly walk and multiple issues with her lower half.
    Now I'm 26, in a much better financial situation, and anytime I can't slightly wiggle my toes when trying out a pair of shoes I just immediately throw them back to the shelves. Still love my open toed sandals too!

    For anyone looking for a shoe to wear while running/walking here are some options.
    For a wide toe box Altra Escalante and Topos fly-lite
    For people with flat feet Brooks ghost max and Saucany Echelon.
    Topo has options that are around 0-5 mm of drop. This will not make such a crazy jump if you are use to having a higher drop.
    The ghost max and echelon both have a broader cut to them. I would suggest go to a local shoe store to try all of the these shoes on!

    Word of caution to people transitioning to wide-toe shoes: go easy at first and progressively work up to your normal fitness level. If you go at your current pace, your feet are not going to be conditioned. You don't realize how atrophied your feet are until you get injured.
    I have been wearing wide-toe shoes for 2 years. I run in them, and I have a pair that I wear to work. However, I just transitioned back to "normal" shoes for boxing. The high intensity bouncing, shifting, and jump rope work was wearing on me. I got tendonitis in my foot from going too hard too fast in the wide-toe shoes. It's continued to bug me, so I finally decided to get a "supportive" shoe that was sport specific to boxing that has a mid-rise ankle and thick sole. I got the widest shoe I could find. You got to weight the pros and cons of each situation and decide when a specialized shoe is worth it.

      @NsimaInyang  3 місяці тому

      This is very important, I hi lighted this point in the video, but I’m glad you’re also mentioning it. Some people rush into barefoot too quickly, get injured and say that the barefoot stuff is just a fad. This stuff has to be gradual.

    I thought about barefoot shoes, I just got rid of running shoes, focused on strengthening my feet and lower leg, calf raises and tib raises, and I fixed bad plantar fasciitis type pain that I was dealing with. While I do agree that a lot of shoes are too narrow, coming from someone with a narrow foot, I don't agree that barefoot shoes are the answer for most people. I stick to a handful of Jordan models, Dunks, some Asics cup sole shoes and Air Max 1's and I can splay my toes when I walk without blisters or having everything squished. I think the barefoot shoe industry needs to work on making the good quality products affordable because there is no chance I am spending over 100 dollars on a pair of shoes made of less material than a 60 dollar pair of Vans.

    Interesting... all my life, I've been barefoot at home. Unless it's really cold, then I put socks on... but most of the time, I'm barefoot. Do some people not do this?

    Am new to the barefoot community. Am in my 40s and remember in my 20s & 30s alot of times if I did long walks I would take off my shoes and walk barefoot on rocks, cement and grass no problem. I workout at home and lift weights even do cardio all barefoot. There would be times I put my nobull shoes on and literally have to take them off because the side of my feet were hurting. My runners are not that thick but I decided to buy a cheap pair of barefoot shoes recently from Amazon these shoes are great. Did a 5 mile walk the other day and felt like the shoes was hugging my foot as I walked felt like a glove I felt amazing. I have arthritis my whole body and noticed my back doesn't hurt as much. Those who are new and don't want to spend alot of money on barefoot shoes joomra shoes on Amazon are great lots to choose from 40$ seen reviews a women had them for 2 years and still in great shape. Blessings.

    I started wearing barefoot style shoes 9months ago. Lots of my random ankle and knee pain is no longer there. On the days I wear my “old shoes” to work in I notice my pinky toe feels forced into the corner and rubs. So I’m assuming that means my feet are widening. But for those of you who want some dressier barefoot shoes/boots check out Jim green African Ranger barefoot boots.

    My entire Lower extremities were fucked from over 10 years of dancing in Adidas. I had been winning freestyle competitions, dancing at a high physical capacity and then one day it all just went down the tubes and I ended up rehabbing my entire body for 3 years. After year one, I got the vibram 5 fingers and never stopped training in them.
    My smallest 3 toes were scrunched up and couldn't abduct them. Now it's been almost two years since then and My pink toes are finally alive, and I can actively feel the entire chain of muscle that pink toe activates. I can control my foot function to the likeness of my hands.
    I dunno if it's truly a conspiracy but it sure as hell seems like it!

    Bought some barefoot shoes a year ago and until recently it had been great. Going running was amazing in parks and soft ground and did wonder for my non existent calves like I’d never properly trained them was mad HOWEVER made the mistake since changing houses to go running but it’s mostly concrete nearby and that obliterated my heel bursa.
    While recovering I wore regular shoes I had an it made my feet feel cramped up and uncomfortable after just a few hours. Definitely worth sticking to barefoot shoes but if living in a city make sure there is some cushion

    In the army the leather boot can be formed by soaking it in water and ruck 15 miles till dry, your feet will change the boot, and shoes can also be shaped to your feet.

    • @NsimaInyang
      @NsimaInyang  3 місяці тому

      When you say shoes can be shaped to your feet what do you mean? Also don’t you think it would be better to just have a wider boot than having to go through soaking it to work better for your foot?
      Shouldn’t the shoe serve the foot, rather than the foot working to serve the shoe?

    You better start loving those big shoe brands if you want to compete in racing or soccer, vivo and all the other barefooters don’t seem to have the ability to compete and that’s mainly due to us advancing shoe tech and bio tech, it may be good for mixing up but mostly just don’t wear shoes if you don’t have to 🤷
