Been a long time since I checked in Bill but see that you are still killing it with that engineering/science mind of yours and your love of one of man’s most important inventions! Hope you are doing well! BTW….this is Larry from back in the days of helping you with the bicycle repair class and learning how to build wheels…that was a great time that I miss!

Hi Mr Bill, iam from indonesia, and i'll had seen all your videos, its make me to motivated to see detail of wheelbuilding

Hi Bill, check the definition of erd and bsd and then recheck the numbers you gave at the beginning of the video. Cheers.

Sky, thanks for the note. There are several examples.

Just realized the wheel I'm building has a less than optimal spoke angle 😖 Thanks for a great video, I will make a better decision next time 😃

That's why a motor with paired spoke holes is ideal!

I skipped through to video and you don't seem to have mentioned it anywhere

Thank you Bill , relly helpful. Exactly what I was wondering about having spoked many ebike wheels with big hubs and having problems with wheels already supplied spoked from China -they often break spokes and worse in allowing for a disc on one side and a 7 speed sprocket on the other the flanges are way too narrow making for a weak construction.
As a motorcylist when we have traditional spoked wheels we have relatively small 17/18 inch rims and hubs containg brakes (so quite large) it is common for the rim holes to be nicely angled and dished to nicely take the nipple. Why the hell dont bicycle rims come with a small angle pressed in to mitagate the obvious misalignment you will get pretty much regardless of crossing number-say 10 degrees built in would be a good start?
It is a constant frustration trying to find something right for the job as ebikes develop.
What is needed is a rim that is much heavier than a bicycle yet slightly lighter than a moped or small motorcycle and the same goes for a decent tyre -motorbike ones are way too heavy and bicycle ones are way too flimsy-even good ones. To make it even harder for the ebike builder thinking of using moped parts most moped wheels are now a solid cast design with no wire spokes. There is a market here for some entrepreneur- Pete

Pete, good comments. Rims made specifically for E-bikes with angled fore and aft reinforced holes would help a lot. Bill

Hi Bill, What is the best Elbow position in flange for the pulling spoke?
    Right and Left In ?
    Right and Left out ?
    Right in left out?
    Right Out, left In ?
A choise is beeter? i see All configuration ... not found a explication

At the end of the day, all of that stuff makes little difference compared to the number of crosses and setting the tension right.

Hi. Could you explain the terms leading spokes and trailing spokes? Would your purple "pulling" spokes be considered trailing spokes and the green "pushing" spokes be considered leading spokes? Is this correct or do I have it backwards?

Hello ! I’m building an ebike (mid drive) and I’m trying to shave weight. the wheels have 36 spoke 12g and so do the hubs at a 3cross, how should I go about shaving weight ? Less spokes, 12-13g spokes would help minimally, maybe reducing the cross to 2 cross with 12-13g ???

John, it's hard for me to advise you without seeing the bike first. Unfortunately, you may have limited options. If the spokes are 12G, the holes in the hub and rim will be large diameter holes to accommodate the spokes, If you use smaller spokes, they might not fit with the large holes correctly. You may need to build completely new wheels.
