    9:55 - Gunnar. Your sensitivity to the welfare of the Muskox is astounding. Certainly you are not Morten Hilmer. Morten is coffee. Gunnar is tea. Yet we could sense the younger nature sensitive version of Morten in you. Keep up the good work!
    Yes. Came here as per Morten's recommendation. And these Muskox shots are outstandingly beautiful.

    Great video. You touch on so many important points and you show the tougher side of wildlife photography. Images are well earned. And your respect for the muskox is to be commended. As wildlife photographers, the well being of our subject should always be our number one priority. Very well done!

    • @GunnarDresler
      @GunnarDresler  3 роки тому +1

      Hei Henrik.
      Thanks for the kind comment. It is really hard sometimes to do the right thing as a young wildlife photographer, but I guess if you put the respect for the animals highest you are on a good way. I am certainly not perfect in that aspect, even with my background, I feel like in my first year I certainly did some mistakes. Sometimes I just wanted to get THAT shot while I surely should not have tried so hard. Muskoxen on Dovrefjell are a good training ground I guess, they are big and honestly you should rather photograph them in that grand landscape than anything else when you start... and also, you do not want to get trampled by those, they are fast and heavy ;)
      I guess we should always ask ourselves how we can make it better, not really how the photo is gonna look on our wall and more what we could eventually impact with our photography. I hope to find a better way next year and see how my work can maybe help with conservation.
      Cheers, G

      @@GunnarDresler Well said. Most, if not all, of us have made mistakes along the way. Me included. But I also learned from those mistakes. And with our images and videos, we have the ability to advocate for wildlife. That’s important - wildlife need our help for a myriad of reasons. Folks need to know to care. So please keep doing what you’re doing.

    On Ellesmere Island and Svalbard, Morten had company. In Canada he even didn't had to worry about cooking. Carrying the stuff around is already a big task, although you're young.
    I also see you adjusting your tripodhead all the time (Sirui). Did you ever consider buying a Sachtler?? They work superb I can tell you. Great work, good luck.

    • @GunnarDresler
      @GunnarDresler  3 роки тому

      Yeah, true in some parts, but he also did some elements alone for some days in nearly each. I am just not so tough and fit (even though I am young :D), but we can work on that!
      I do not know much about Sachtler, but I might have a look into it. Not all the clips are completely in order, so maybe it is sometimes a fill up where I am actually adjusting and then it was reused for the stories sake while it is still the same adjusting session. That stuff happens.
      Thank you and good luck for the new year :)

    • @GunnarDresler
      @GunnarDresler  3 роки тому

      Thanks for tuning in, Gary! In these cases of animals that you rather not hide from it’s always important to think about your impact critically. At least, I think so, but I guess the guides just know better in general. As a single person walking out there and meeting them, I do not think that I interrupt much. I’m not a threat when they come my direction, and they certainly would beat my butt if so since they are normally not afraid of small groups. Still, especially in times when they build up a lot of fat for the winter, it’s important to leave them at peace :)
      Cheers,

    Really good episode man! I like the way those time lapses turned out. The Z cameras are really good for time-lapse. Question: I noticed you have some slight panning in your shots are you using an automated pan head for that or is that done in post? It gives the footage a very natural feel.

    • @GunnarDresler
      @GunnarDresler  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, Brian. I am definitely taking more timelapses since it got so easy. The setup inside the camera is just really handy to give you out 4K. Next time I will clean my sensor once more before doing it, there was dust right in the middle, I could remove it, but it was not easy. Cheers, G

      Hey Brian, just laughing about my old videos. Sorry to see that I did not answer your question fully! It is added in post. I sometimes pan, but with timelapses it would be way to inaccurate. Since I film all myself I nearly have to do it in post if I do not want to carry even more. Hope that helps, even if late!

    Maybe you would be happier doing a different type of photography. Something that would involve a production with other people. Maybe working with models; or wedding photography; or doing celebrity photography for magazines; or just commercial photography. It's pretty obvious from your comments that you don't enjoy being out there for landscape or wildlife photography.

      I will admit that I have a hard time out there, but it seems you get me wrong. I do enjoy the outdoors a lot, I would even say that all of this is saving me right now. As well I might like cutting the material more afterwards than actually being out, but that just shows my love for cutting video, but also telling my own story. What you are seeing just might be a way bigger conflict about myself, I am not living through the most easiest months of my life for sure.
