Hi Ali, thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately this year I have not gotten an advent. I have 5 previous advents that I have not yet used. I am hoping to use one in the new year as I have present knitting to do on the run up to Christmas! I love Caliesha's designs, she is so talented!
Thanks for all the suggestions! If you are looking for a neat trapezoid shape shawl, Ophelia Talks' Agatha's Reading Shawl is that shape. I've made it and it's lovely.
This is so much fun. I am doing my first yarn Advent this year. My husband and I dyed mini skeins each time we dyed. I wound them and put them in a bag. Everyday He is picking one out and giving it to me. I'm crocheting 10 tiny squares for the Battenberg Blanket, and then using the rest for scrappy Advent socks, knit two at a time. It's lovely and I know that I will like all the yarns, LOL
Lol. I'm left handed and think about mug designs all the time. Can't wait to see all your advents! My sister got the Apothecary one. I got the Advent in Wonderland one by Skein and the stitch. I think I'm going to try the Baubles and Berries pattern by Cherry Heart but might be too difficult for me.
Hi, Ali little drops of wonderfull. I thoroughly enjoyed your talk on shawls, one of the items of tarn that takes longer to finish the more you work on them. Lol. But i really like crocheting a good shawl pattern. You showed some really nice shawls. Have a wonderfull Advent, i especially liked your rules for engaging your shawl patterns, very logical . Have a wonderfull day. See you on the tube 😊😊😊.
I didn’t buy an advent this year, but I’m designing a mobius cowl/scarf pattern for a 12 day advent. I’m going to have to get that Just Feel Festive pattern, it’s gorgeous.
This is my first time buying an advent. I bought 3! My Christmas pressies to myself.. I know my worth. 😆. I will probably wait until they're all open before deciding on what to crochet, but it will probably be a wearable, or two. Now over to watch you're vlogmas!
so many good suggestions on what to use our advent yarns on, I'm leaning toward the Battenberg blanket that Becky from Back to blighty did and maybe I too will make the such simple shawl like Suzanne did hugs happy vlogmas
Oh! I think that was my notes on the Getting Ziggy shawl, what a surprise. It really was fun to make! I don't have an advent but I do probably have enough minis to pretend I do so I am looking at patterns too.
Beautiful Shawls! The Intermission and the Just Feel Festive are on my to-crochet-list, too. At the moment I‘m crocheting the Sis Love Half Circle by Joanna Grzelak/Sis Homemade. It‘s a beautiful shawl, but you have to count (a little bit). Looking forward to see you and your lovely family daily again. ❤ Christina
What a lovely collection ❤. I’m tempted by the intermission shawl. I think it’s the crescent shape that gets me. I’ve recently made Margaret’s Hug Shawl out of minis and I love it. It’s similar to the granny but with a slight different. It’s also free.
I purchased Little Gemstones by Claire Slade to use up an advent. It’s a knitted shawl. I don’t know if I will get to it soon though. You are inspiring me to pick up crochet again.
Oh my gosh I’m so excited! I found your channel a few months ago and got totally obsessed watching your past Vlogmas videos. I have never had an Advent of any kind and just had to give it a go! So this year I have 3 yarn, 1 chocolate, and one candle ( I may have gone a bit overboard). I’m so happy to have these great ideas. I will be crocheting for sure, and will see where the colors lead me. Happy Advent. DJ
Started the annaboo granny shawl! I took your suggestion and have it on the needle now. It is working up so fast. Thanks and have a great month of making.❤️
Thank you for this video! I have my first yarn advent this year, and I was on the lookout for the perfect project. You have shown a few great options, and I just may choose the Just Feel Festive Shawl. I am looking forward to your vlogmas. See you on your other channel! 😊❤
Hi Ali, I took inspiration from the Granny Wrap scarf, and I am doing this with some variegated yarn, and I am loving it - simple easy pattern, and can't wait to see the end result. You've inspired me from this video make more shawls, I like the circular one! So excited for vlogmas!
loved this, fair got me in the mood for creating something festive! I'm currently crocheting snowflake tree decs as gifts for my son's nursery teachers. Once i have these finished I am going to make him a rag doll dog for christmas, he loves the feeling of yarn and cuddles his blankets I've made him lots so he will love it! may check out one of these shawl patterns once these are complete! thanks ali :)
Thank you so much for the fabulous ideas🎄🧶 I am dividing my minis into color groups. My projects are very large and will take most of next year I am sure. The first is the Battenberg blanket by Cherry heart. The second is the hexi flower quilt by Cherry heart. The third is a knitted quilt that Amy Louden & other knits. I hope you have the best Christmas ever❣️
crochet - yay! Thanks for the inspiring round-up. I got my first yarn advent this year (a 12 day one) and I'm striping the colours with an undyed yarn into the Mama Rainbow sweater by Mon Petit Violon. Wishing you a very happy Christmas and New Year x
Great video. Wish I could crochet but I am knitter lol. But I have started a knitted shawl. Easy and I don’t need to think. lol. So many nice shawls Ali you should do them all. When you have time.
I’ve got Siobhanscrafts Mermaid and Under the Sea themed adventure calendar and I’ll be designing my own granny square themed garment using the Granny Square Deck by Claire Montgomerie
I am making the Advent Adventure just released by Mark Roseboom (Guy with a Hook). Thanks for this list. I was familiar with many of them. Another pattern very similar to your trapezoid patten is the Agatha Reading Shawl a tutorial on UA-cam by Ophelia Talks. I have made 3 of them & many of my followers have made it also & love it.
Thank you so much!! I haven’t decided either but leaning toward a granny stitch wrap that’s not a triangle. Running late of course and just ordered light grey yarn to hold with my minis.
What wonderful suggestions. I have two yarn Advents this year (my first ever!) and had already decided on the Granny Wrap for one, and will now choose either the Just Feel Festive Shawl or the Fairbanks Advent Shawl for the second one. Thanks for doing all the research for us! I have made the Intermission Shawl previously. It is just lovely and have other yarn (not minis) set aside to do a second one at some point. I'm looking forward to Vlogmas. I'll be heading over to your other channel to start the festive fun! Thanks!!
Hi Ali, I have the Curate Crochet Advent by Lottie and Albert where I’ll be making 5 mini projects during December. I love it and have made some beautiful keepsakes.
Just opened my first yarn advent mini today from Polka Dot Creek out of Alberta , Canada. No idea what I'm going to do with it - knit or crochet. Thanks for all the projects.
Such a great video. I totally agree with crochet being great for advents. This year I have the Hook and Cwtch advent which comes with a pattern but I will still be putting these ones on my list for other minis I have.
@@LittleDropsofWonderful you would have liked the one she did last year. It was themed 'Librarian' each colour inspired by a book. I didn't get it sadly.
Ali, you inspired me to make the Granny wrap last year. I made one for myself using a chelsea yarn advent and went on to make 2 others using random minis. I am working on a 4th as a present for a dear friend. 2 fingering weight, 1 aren and my current wip is dk. Now what to do this year! The gift wrap shawl by yarn cafe creations is a free pattern and the incredible blanket by purl soho is also free. Both top contenders for me. However they are both knit projects. I am interested in looking at several of the project you shared. Looking forward to vlogmas!
I’m wearing my Annaboo's Granny Wrap as I watch your video! 🥰🧶 I have minis from years past and a couple of these patterns look very tempting. Looking forward to seeing which you choose! (This year’s advent yarn pattern is the Lucienne Crochet Advent Baby Blanket. I’m surprised by how large it actually is.) (I hope you’re familiar with crochet designer CJ Brady? A favorite.) Thank you for making my Christmas season bright! 💖
Thanks for the lovely ideas Ali. I’m so looking forward to seeing your Curated Yarn co advent, it looks like it will be stunning! I have got the Christmas Day skein by itself to look forward to, and an Indie yarn club advent that is a fade xx
Thankyou Ali I have been struggling between crochet and knitting and I live in Queensland Australia and I bought Eli Craft House Magic 24 minies so I think I will go for crochet like you suggested . Have a Very Merry Christmas and New Year with your wonderful family.Greetings from your yanney friend here in a very hot Australia at the moment 😘❤️💐🧶
Lovely to see all these letters Ali. I have a James Makes Yarn advent and it's 100gr skein every week, I have to and I'm thinking of knitting a Love Note by Tim Can Knits. I also have a Wool is the Answer advent and that's 12x20gr sparkle but I don't know what I shall knit or crochet in it. xxx
I haven't decided what to do with my advents yet; will probably wait until i have opened them all. But with Suzanne's I am tempted to do another corner-to-corner moss stitch square blanket, starting with the first 12 minis, then putting the full skein in the middle and finish with the second set of 12 minis. I do like the crescent shawl pattern you showed, maybe that would be a good one for my Aberdeen's (Ontario Canada) one since it is a fade, apparently. Excited to get to your Vlogmas, was going to wait to open my Green Lambkin while watching, but couldn't wait another second so I tore it open before your day one was available this morning. Thought of you the moment I opened the bag.
I was lucky enough to be gifted "The People's Advent" from My Yarny Corner. I'm not knitting with it in Dec as I want to see the colour range first. I also put together my own yarn advent using leftovers from sock knitting so 12 x 20g minis. I'm adding a cream main skein and going to knit the Luminaria Shawl by Lindsay Fowler
I've never received/bought an Advent, but one day I'd like to. I am currently trying to find a very quick and simple knit pattern that I can make X4 for my two younger boy's teachers. A scarf, cowl, or fingerless mitts? Then there are so many patterns.
Oh thanks for a couple if fun additions to my patterns. I slready started the Primrose and Proper easy triangle shawl. I plan to just go along and use up all the 24 colors of my advent. It was written using DK but it coming up very pretty with my fingering weight wool. It is a free pattern by Kirsten Holloway designs. I think I am using one of your recommendations for one of the other advents I have. Looking forward to seeing what you decide on to crochet over December! 🧶🧶🧶

Hi Ali. Thank you for all the recommendations. I have already made a couple of the Granny Wraps and loved working on them. I have a 10 g Advent from Cookston Crafts this year (4 ply fingering) x 24 days. Do you think that would be enough to make a small Granny Wrap? Thanks. x
Hi Ali! Those are some lovely advent project ideas. I have been collecting the Beaches and Birdsong fairy tale yarn club this year and getting my daughter to put it away in an advent calendar. I'm going to be knitting My Reading Shawl by Kay Jones. I'd love to do a granny stripe sometime but can't crochet and struggle to find simple tutorials. Are there any that you would recommend?
Was wondering if you could tell me which hook size you used for yours that you made last year with your Homespun House advent. I don’t think you mentioned it in your vlogmas. I’m making the granny triangle wrap by Anna boo’s house with my advent minis from my Court of Dreams advent from Dragon Hoard Yarn.

I'm making the Zigzag Zen Blanket by Anniina Juuti from the 2023 Canadian Dyer advent put together by Polka Dot Creek.
