In this video I continue cleaning and repairing the $400 E39 over a few days. Mice made a classic airbox nest, which was cleaned out and Mann air filter element replaced. Oil was changed with 0W40 spec Castrol Edge synthetic oil and Mann filter. A sample of oil was collected to send out to Blackstone labs for analysis. I'm curious how it looks in an M54 with 248,000 miles! I also charge the old battery which seems to be totally fine, no need to buy a new one just yet. Finally, I replace $6 worth of strut and headlamp nuts and bolts to clean up the appearance under the hood. #saveaBMW

Not sure anyone notices but I can see a smile on the face of the BMW now. Quite happy
Very satisfying indeed. A manual e39 would be nice.
I can say it is very nice!
raomar me too
Phil P I’m selling one
just bought one
Some nice small repairs that will get you motivated to keep going with it. I have a 98 E38 in the same color and love restoring it. Keep it up!
Sean McCauley thanks Sean! It’s a great color. I’m sitting on a ton of long form videos at the moment, trying to edit and upload more on this e39 very shortly
That color is just amazing. Whats the name of it if you know?
Well that was relaxing! It’s nice to see some love brought back to that baby. Well done indeed. I’ll be interested to see how much you can turn it over for. That looks like a good runner. Nice find !
Thanks! I am not sure what it would bring, maybe $2400? I love the E39 and would like to keep this one as a winter car. I need a bigger garage and driveway!
The ticking should go away once you put some miles on it , I have to drop the subframe on mine to do the rack and pinion, Good video man !!!
the ticking cleared up with the fresh oil change! It was low on oil. You're right though, the more I start it and drive around the better it sounds. These cars do not like sitting for a long period of time lol
Lol I'm about to buy one for $376 but it doesn't have a motor 😅
hell yeah!
God I love the color on this thing. Also love the official oil receptacle of Munich 😂
check out this beauty: ebay.to/2ZfzXbv
BIMMER ZEIT kinda wish it had the tan interior then it’d almost be perfect. Or black with the aluminum trim
Hei! Did you get the oil sample results? It would be really interesting to hear about them:)
I sold the car and never did... will check and see if the sample is still sitting around
12:12 on that bolt there is normaly a ground cable connected to the ABS module.
If only I knew HALF the stuff you do...
I'm surprised you did not replace the cabin filter x 2, I found that vacuuming does really get rid of all the dirty from the filter. I think it is worthwhile to replace them as it also freshen the cabin for a nice scent and better airflow.
definitely! They're on order. Just did a quick vac and inspection while I was poking around
How did you get ur skills?
Where did you get the replacement bolts?
Emmanuel Garza look up the parts on realoem.com then use the part number to order at your local dealer or what I did: FCP euro
Missed the part about adding oil. I guess that assumed 😂
Haha you’re right. Looking back now I’m not sure why I cut through that part. 🧐
that was oddly satisfying to watch
You bought that for $400? That would fetch $6,000+ in Thailand.
Bad colour combo though.
Well we have mediocre Thai food here for $40 take out... I've traveled all across Thailand and had amazing meals for $7. I guess it is all relative!
OY VEY Here we go again with another "bad colour" combo.. Mate, that color is AWESOME!
Put some Marvel Oil in the oil........about a half a quart.....That will help with the ticking........Is that a Canadian or German Model? The Speedo and the Climate Controls are different.
Marvel is great stuff. I've seen it clear up weird noises on an E36 M3 with a rebuilt head. Marvel mystery cleared it right up. The ticking gone after the fresh oil change and running the engine a bit. It's a US model, the climate control is a weird base-model 525i thing! It also has a manual adjusting passenger seat (no power motors). You're totally right though, the hvac controls and manual seat are things typically only seen on euro model cars. Once in a while you come across one like this where the original owner tried to save a few bucks by unchecking some options, I think this is the case here.
Did you check the water level in the battery cells?
I did not
How about brake fluid and coolant?
coolant is leaking from the pipes under the intake manifold, the major flaw in this car that I can see. I'll be removing the intake manifold to replace them shortly.
BIMMER ZEIT SAN It's been a while from Japan. I wish I could my E39 restored too. Today when I adjusted window regulator of assistant seat, driver door actuator
became malfunction. It killed me so much.
Hey bud, it sounds like maybe you accidentally left a plug unplugged. Double check that everything is plugged in.
@@BIMMERZEITT san Thank you for your comment. Your a piece of precious advice worked soon.
At a combination switch of driver seat(windows, wing mirror etc.) one of them is actually broken.
As you know, the electrical plug of BMW is complicated besides "originally modified" .
DUDE THROW A LIQUID MOLY ENGINE CLEANER, THAT WILL GET RID OF THE TICKING LIFTERS...
Aldair Vega changed the oil and it’s 100% now 👌🏻
Не все же масло сольется так надо что бы она ровно стояла
You don't use the Lucas oil sytetic version ? And you need power tools
I have power tools but don’t use them. Houses are very close together (dense suburbs) on CT’s Gold Coast! Have to be respectful of the neighbors.
Need new vamps
What happened to the $400 e39? I was looking forward to seeing more repairs on this thing. Now all your vids are focused on the e90. Heavy sigh...
krazmokramer don’t worry there are plenty more videos on that car coming shortly!
@@BIMMERZEITT I was concerned you sold it already.
krazmokramer getting it registered tomorrow, maiden voyage!!
Nice Car. Greetings from Germany 😉
Dude you really got this for $400 ???
Wulf Fiji yes

Thechristopherryan it’s s 525i with 2.5L, the 530i has a 3.0L. Later 528i essentially has an M54 in the M52TU
