    In this video I continue cleaning and repairing the $400 E39 over a few days. Mice made a classic airbox nest, which was cleaned out and Mann air filter element replaced. Oil was changed with 0W40 spec Castrol Edge synthetic oil and Mann filter. A sample of oil was collected to send out to Blackstone labs for analysis. I'm curious how it looks in an M54 with 248,000 miles! I also charge the old battery which seems to be totally fine, no need to buy a new one just yet. Finally, I replace $6 worth of strut and headlamp nuts and bolts to clean up the appearance under the hood. #saveaBMW

    Some nice small repairs that will get you motivated to keep going with it. I have a 98 E38 in the same color and love restoring it. Keep it up!

      Sean McCauley thanks Sean! It’s a great color. I’m sitting on a ton of long form videos at the moment, trying to edit and upload more on this e39 very shortly

      Thanks! I am not sure what it would bring, maybe $2400? I love the E39 and would like to keep this one as a winter car. I need a bigger garage and driveway!

    The ticking should go away once you put some miles on it , I have to drop the subframe on mine to do the rack and pinion, Good video man !!!

      the ticking cleared up with the fresh oil change! It was low on oil. You're right though, the more I start it and drive around the better it sounds. These cars do not like sitting for a long period of time lol

    I'm surprised you did not replace the cabin filter x 2, I found that vacuuming does really get rid of all the dirty from the filter. I think it is worthwhile to replace them as it also freshen the cabin for a nice scent and better airflow.

    You bought that for $400? That would fetch $6,000+ in Thailand.
    Bad colour combo though.

    Put some Marvel Oil in the oil........about a half a quart.....That will help with the ticking........Is that a Canadian or German Model? The Speedo and the Climate Controls are different.

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  5 років тому +1

      Marvel is great stuff. I've seen it clear up weird noises on an E36 M3 with a rebuilt head. Marvel mystery cleared it right up. The ticking gone after the fresh oil change and running the engine a bit. It's a US model, the climate control is a weird base-model 525i thing! It also has a manual adjusting passenger seat (no power motors). You're totally right though, the hvac controls and manual seat are things typically only seen on euro model cars. Once in a while you come across one like this where the original owner tried to save a few bucks by unchecking some options, I think this is the case here.

    How about brake fluid and coolant?

    • @BIMMERZEITT
      @BIMMERZEITT  5 років тому +1

      coolant is leaking from the pipes under the intake manifold, the major flaw in this car that I can see. I'll be removing the intake manifold to replace them shortly.

      At a combination switch of driver seat(windows, wing mirror etc.) one of them is actually broken.
      As you know, the electrical plug of BMW is complicated besides "originally modified" .
