- Massey 399 Turbo working on very steep silo pit high up under the roof with turbo whistling away, wow this is 30ft up amazing hight, enjoy the video thanks .PS if you like the video feel free to subscribe, cheers and thanks very much to all my new subscribers .
That's a high pit, thought the Massey was going to topple over at one point!👍
Very high pit David, looks worse than it is up there, thanks for the comment .
I have heard more than once of someone being killed doing this...
That machine's a beauty, reminds me of happy hours in a 390, carting and field work mostly. Love the sound of the big 6 working under that roof.
thanks very much JNCG, shame things have changed so much, and far to much electronics on everything nowadays .
Done plenty of that!...brings back many memories. The best bit was always closing up the front of the clamp at the end. The aim was to get the face as steep as possible when you exit...the closer to a vertical face you got the better because it limits waste. I once ended up with my tractor sitting on the weight tray at the nose on the concrete. We had to give it a tug with another tractor to unstick the machine.
Yes David, Great to hear your story, and some one who has been there and done that, getting some very interesting comments on the who, why, and werefore, thanks .
MF 399 one of the best tractors ever made for steep ground work!...simple, reliable, light and powerfull and even better with a Turbo bolted on her😍💪
No radio needed!!👂😍
Nice one Rich N, i agree, but that is just our opinion, thanks for the comment .
Thinking of putting one on mine sounds like a symphony of power.... More power more better.....
Doing an excellent job and now a nice sound from the Massey.
thanks very much, yes a great sound indeed, cheers .
Not packing it at all
Another reason to be glad I own Massey's.
Our bunker silos were loaded from ramps at one end, to avoid shoving the silage up too high like this. Once the silo got full, we would have to remove the muffler and ROPS bar to fit our David Brown 770 up there but it was always ahead and back work, with nothing on the side. Good times. I can smell the silage now! :)
Much respect! Tractors with their unsprung weight are easy to flip at the best of times. This gentleman is a true maestro of the art.
thanks Colin .👍
Grand job! Proof that not everything needs more hp. Just the right man an tools
Correct HS Agri, thanks for the comment, cheers .👍
Brilliant video, smooth operator.
Thanks William, thanks for the Watch and positive comment, nice one .
Hi put up silage for years with a 399 and loader from a jf 1100, one of the pits was over slats in a shed. They were the good days, and a few pints in the local at midnight on way home..
Yes those were the days Alec, how things have changed, thanks for your comment .
Many a good time I had at that as a young one
you re a mad man :) balls of steel. Love the vid
Great stuff, thanks .
No fear, fair play to ya man, you can handle her. Nice note out of her, one of the best masseys made 👍
thanks for the comment Alistair, i agree on all counts .
Awesome soundin that massey!😍
Yes a great sound from that Turbo whistling away, thanks .
awesome driving
Nearly three score years and ten iv been at it , and thats what id call a good tractor man, no doubt about it 🏴 happy healthy peace ✌️
Yes indeed thanks and stay tuned, thanks 👍
Its definitely not the first time he has done that!!!
Great work and a fine tractor. I am a Massey ferguson nut this one sounds fantastic.
Yes John, great sounds the 399 makes, was told it was a T.B turbo fitted, all the rage at the time, approx 20% more power, does make them breath a bit heavy though, thanks
I’ve never seen silage so well compacted… I’m sure it’s a quality result…..
😂🤷♂👌🤣
I started driving a setup pretty equal to this when i was around 12-13 years old.
My dad would have ripped me a new one if i managed to let the pit look like this, even at that age!
Looks roughly as clean and smooth as a german Silo....
ua-cam.com/video/fCxCxSzKfg4/v-deo.html
roughly...
@@RubyRhod haha nein. Not really.
Nice one, thats quite a lovely 399 and sound.
Thanks very much for the comment, yes great sound of the turbo working hard, cheers, Steve .
Used to use a Massey Ferguson 390 4wd M reg on the pit it was awesome tractor only 80 hp .
The 399 are a brilliant tractor simple no electrics she sounds like a turbo 💨👌.
Thanks Michael, the 390 is an excellent tractor as well, back to basics, probably not, thanks for your comment .
Can you recon how many hours thr tractor had. I have still a massey with 7230 hours and dont know how many hours he can reach before total breakdown
thanks Michael, the 300 series were very good tractors, and the cabs have lasted well not like the 600 series cabs, all gone rotten probably by now, cheers .
And huge credit to the driver, nerves of steel.
thanks for your comment Red shed, nerves of steel indeed .
Or a fuckin ejet AHH lad she was ready to turn multiple times in the five min vid
Wow, you weren’t joking when you said it was steep! More often than not a 200hp tractor would struggle there but the MF 399 is coping admirably well. Obviously it’s operator knows his machine well, not only it’s balance but what gear to be in. Brilliant video Stephen, possibly your best yet.
Now David, thanks for that great and positive comment, that tractor has plenty of power on tap, cheers .
its, not it's
I have been on some hills in my life nothing like that. nerves of steel!!!
Sounds a beaut and coping well
the 399 was a great tractor with no complicated electronics to go wrong, a real modern classic, thanks for your input .
I used to sit and watch the contractor do this on out farm. He had an old county with huge wheel(small by todays standards). Love it
thanks very much Jonny, glad you enjoyed the video, and took the time to comment .🦽
nice, i once rolled a O&K wheeled front loader in a similar silo :D a complete roll, landed on the wheels at the bottom, ofcourse it didnt have the seat belt on so was rolled around.. Glass and paint damge only, and bruises for me, after a short cleanup, continued to silage but with no windows :p and now seat belt on :D
Interesting! Comment Mr eqvaliser,, not good rolling a tractor on the pit, sounds like you were lucky ony bruises, cheers .
A proper tractor on the buckrake
Yes no complicated electronics, just a strait six and a whistling turbo, great, thanks .
@@B1066agri what a tractor should be
@@B1066agri those same "complicated" electronics make for a very fast, precise farming. Saving operator and crops, seed. Heck even some old tractors have installed screens for autosteer, seeder etc. And this mf 399 has electronics too.
@@dkdanis1340 Thanks DK, you are right, its called progress, thanks .
Reminds me of my days piling up wood chips. Interesting tool on the 3point; some variation of this would've be fun to develop for different use.
thanks 7eis, yes great for collecting hedge trimmings and pushing of into a heap, cheers .
i remember years ago sitting in beside my ole man buckraking had to wedge myself on the seat and feet on the metal bar of the front window in a 8240 we were almost straight up an down lol good times
thanks for the great memories there, cheers .
Farming Simulator 2024, cool graphics and physics! LOL that guy is gifted, to drive the tractor like it's an extension of his body.
Great comment Martin, and i know what you mean, thanks .
The turbo is icing on the cake
certainly hard to beat the sound of a tubo on full chat, cheers .
I used a 8410 with 3m push off buck rake on rear , always built them as steep as possible.
You never knew how much grass was coming in and small face meant better compaction.
Highest stack I ever did was just wide enough for 8410 with duels set at 3m and could just roll middle,
was higher than hay shed next to stack, always went 3 trucks wide on base but this stack I think was 4 trucks wide.
I ran out of room so ended up starting 2nd stack, had a lot of local farmers slowing down and looking.
Was good with 8410 whole 6.2m x 2.4 x 2.4m load gone in 3 pushes.
Miss it.
Thanks Craig, great memories there and would have make a great video and somthing to see, thanks for your comment, silage time again, cheers . 🙂
Very impressive!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow 😍now that brings back memories I’m going to sub 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Very much appreciated .
Geez thats one stout tractor
Well done sir, well done! Rolling a tractor is very easy in these conditions.
Thanks very much, 👍
Brilliant video, il give you a subscribe for this one 👍
Thanks for the Sub, glad you enjoyed the video, cheers .
You cant be makeing to bad of a job of it mate ,barns like that cost a few bob lovely sound on that turbo envious .subscribed and looking forward to moren PS you need Brasso to polish those balls you have climbing up there .
looks more dangerous than it is, although if some of the Negative comment lads would like to try there would be a cracking video of an upside down tractor to video and watch, thanks very much for the Sub, cheers .
@@B1066agri that's the job. Drives me ape shit when I see our contractor driving up and down the full length of the pit and it would only be half full. I've tried explaining to keep the face as short and steep as possible and why.
That was Crazy
thanks for the comment and watch, glad you enjoyed it, cheers .
That style Massey is in my top 2 favorites for sure. I'm not sure we got that specific model here in the States (Can't say I've seen one here in Texas) but obviously there's a ton of similar, great looking machines. I grew up watching them cut our hay. Question since we never did silage: the weight of the machine doesn't strike me as being enough to compact the silage well. Does it really take less than most use? Just seems like everything at the top would risk spoilage.
399s are beautiful. You can get them here in Canada as well. We got a 3545 runs like new same style
Love this platform
thanks Dave, been using this size tractors more or less for 30 or more years, big heavier tractors are there to compact yes, but to shift the grass much quicker to keep up with self propelled choppers .
Just goes to show how capable tractors are.
That’s madness, that tractor not fit for that pit , could well over turn. won’t tramp that silage in half good enough be a bad pit need weight and compaction. Lovely 399 have one here at home
thanks for your input and comment Michael .
Must get a lot of spoilage, how do you feed it out??
omg this sound
Great sound, can' beat the sound of a turbo at full chatter, thanks for the watch .
I would start to worry about oil pressure at those angles
That driver knows what he is doing, it looks like. Although the setup in itself looks weird to me. Instead of compacting layer by layer it seems they rely mostly on the weight of the forage itself for compaction. Also having to haul all that material up there one fork at a time, I don't think you'd be able to keep up with a self-propelled harvester or a couple of self loading wagons. Some kind of small trailed chopper, I guess? Another thing I am curious about is why many silage clamps in the UK or Ireland are roofed over. Here in northern Germany I hardly see clamps with walls on the sides because the expense is so hard to justify. Any kind of pavement is usually the best you can hope for.
The most powerless 6cly turbo known to man
120 hp Powerless !! .
Brasso 1066 Agri 120hp means the same thing on paper but a jd 6610 or a non turbo fiat 110 90 or deutz Dx120 would eat it alive
Excellent operator! Reminds me of my dad keeping the face as steep as that. What chopper is it working behind??
Drag chopper i think, thanks john .
Güzel iş çok güzel traktör👍
Thanks very much .
Skilled my whole I've done that in a 414
Yes but things keep getting bigger, progress !!! .
We do the same thing but with jcb wheel loaders..great sound thou
thanks for the comment Spiritwolf, great name by the way .
I have also a 399 without turbo ;What a lovely sound with the turbo fitted on the 1006 perkins!how many hp, did you take it on the dyno?
well not sure but they recon when new an extra 20%, so approx 120 hp Max, thanks for the question sebastion ott .
Do people fit roll bars to these?
Can you ask me a question? Do we need to add yeast for such silage? Thank you very much.
Not sure i can answer your question lam, they do use an inoculant to help preserve the crop and stop it heating up .
No you do not sum people put malasis on it to sweeten it up for the cows but it doesn't need a preservative as such search up Coolmona Agri if u want to see dig scale Irish silege there our local contractors theve about 16 Deeres 2 harvesters 3 loaders
@@mossey9925 they don't use molasses to sweeten for the cows. Molasses is used to feed the yeast that is naturally on the grass. The yeast then ferments the grass and turns it into silage. Basically the same thing as making cider.
I could watch an extended version of this. If you have a full length video, please post it.
you could watch it twice !!, think it is long enough for most folk, cheers young sir .
The best motors
Thanks Aires .👍
Trop cool
Nous on avait un 365 pour faire la même chose.
C'est de la bonne mécanique
Le pilote est très bon aussi
Hi what hours are on it? And how long has the turbo been on it? Thanks
No idea AE, but thanks for watching the video .
And here I thought farming simulator was unrealistic.
Also super popular in farm sim series
thanks Ryan, yes they are, thanks .
hur blir packningenav grödan ?
This I believe besides John Deere is most produces kids toys for tractors
Made.in plastic, metal, had attachments and a working cab
Is that silage?...or dry?...how does it ferment not covered?
does get a very good rolling and a silage sheet on as well Mike, cheers .
Skilled operator.
Whats the reason to silage under a roof?
thanks for the question, mainly to keep the rain of, a lot of it round here, and can be a multi use buidling as well .
Hard to beat a Ferguson backing up silage. Some operator, shame he wasn't getting much rolling done though.
thanks Mark, great sound the turbo makes, plenty of rolling done in between me filming the different shots, thanks for the watch and interest in my channel .
That must be a very well compacted pit ... :-/
will be when fully rolled and sheeted, cheers .
That's a lot of grass!!
yes a fairly good crop there, good year for grass !! .
What’s the deal with the roof over the pit? U only see this in the uk. What’s the benefit?
Utility building when not full, also 1.5 metrs rain round these parts, thanks .
Once again one of those experts who think they are mega cool and consider themselves immortal! Probably all the exhaust fumes he inhaled caused it to do such reckless actions. Incredible!! This person seems to have never heard the word security!
Cheers Bler, thanks for your thoughts, keep em comming .
Do they tarp this silage then doesnt look like its packing it very much to be honest
Plenty of rolling and yes a sheet to cover, no probs, cheers
his advice ''just send it''
What has that cab on the portals
think it says Highline, cheers .
This engine doesn't sound stock?
Was it tweaked?
T.B turbo fitted, 20% more hp.
@@B1066agri Yeah it is definitely loud.
It is whistlin like crazy.
ONe sweet machine.
Why do you make a clamp under a roof ? I have never seen this in the Netherlands
Well we get a lot of rain round these parts.
Happens quite regularly in Ireland and Britain.
Since everyone across these comments actually know what this video is about, like this if it was randomly recommended for u
It really doesn't get any more dangerous than that, I'd almost think they would use a track machine like a small dozer in that situation but if the wheels not broken
thanks Brian, one skilled operator, you get used to your machinary and you know its limits .
Amazing job! I would have been terrified I was going to slide and topple over, how loose was that silage?
No worries Chubby Tony, nerves of steel .
Nice viedeo, you can Always Count on the mf 300 series. But what did you do to IT to make it Sound so beautiful? I think it has a turbo but can you Tell what was done to the muffler or Other Things on the engine, i would Love to do it on my 399
I'd say its probably turbo'd.
By the sounds off it ,there is a holset turbo on that 399,just a basic straight pipe from the turbo then
@@callumconnolly25
There’s a Holset turbo 399 up my way. It sounds glorious and could pull a house down!
@@davidwinthrop7077 I’m not a massey man but there a great tractor,we had a landini 10000s for years we where the second owner off it,when it was a year old a massive holset turbo was put on it,injectors and a pump where turboed, puts out 130hp strong at the shaft, you can hear the turbo spooling from a mile away,my friend owns it now
Somewhere there's a team designing a Hybrid Tractor, not understanding the duty/task/work.
Tractors running on Electric Batteries, is this the future !, thanks for the comment .
I've had people who know dick-all about farming tell me that everything, including farm machines will be electric. I ask them what battery is up to the task of discharging hundreds of amps continuously for hours on end disking a field or chopping silage? Might be fine for lightweight cars, but tractors and 18 wheelers are gonna stay diesel powered for a long, long time. Diesel electric even makes little sense, when we have reliable CVT and powershift transmissions with numerous speeds to match the best engine speed to the work. Turning mechanical power to electric and back to mechanical again is wasteful. The only reason it is used in locomotives is because a transmission would be so large and cumbersome and would not work well starting off. There is so little energy density in batteries for this kind of work as well.
@@ChevyConQueso jcb is trying hydrogen fuel, dont know much but i have heard.
i would like to see him compress the crop
Me too. And at 3.47 just fill in the whole or take the top of the bump.
I think I heard that old masseys powertrain scream for help
Never mind the tractor a proper driver i would say
thats right Paul, nerves of steel, thanks for the comment .
do they ever pack it?
yes, after filling roll and sheet .
Техника безопасности? -Не, не слышал)))
👍 thanks .
Wouldn't it be easier to blow it in place?
I would love to know if he is using 4wd on that steep pit,? Excellent operator..
shure is Michael, thanks for the comment .
399 turbo?
absolutely, cheers .
What turbo have you put on and have you any details about how you went about turbocharging it?
No not my Machine, but told it was a TB Turbo, they were based in Lancaster way back, sadly no more as factory fitted turbos kicked in, thanks .
Ooo by the time you’d sheeted up you’d be ready for a sit down n 🍺
Or a nice cup of tea, maybe, thanks for the comment Buff .
@@B1066agri not cold tea like when they were hay making back in the day
Would you sell them weights ?
No, but thanks for the watch and comment .
Perkins engine ?
Yes i think so, cheers .
Thats a bloody mess 🤣
thanks for your thoughts on the matter .
Roll over
No not today, very sure footed tractor and skilled operator .
Verdichtet wird des ganze aber nicht gut. Ich bezweifle, dass die Silagequalität gut wird..
Tis cut long it wouldn't pack much anyways but it could do with a rolling
It goes down well in a day or 2 with a good roul. Done it for years and never had any bother with silage quality. Not like today when you have a 10-15 tonne shovel. Old school is the best way ☺️
What a mess
thanks aiden .
Bollocks got a 35x 135 up that
Yes indeed you might .🤔🚜
Torquey.
thanks for the comment , and some nice music, cheers .
Wow an MF can do anything :)
Well almost, thanks .
Lol ❤️
thanks.
wtf is the turbo in this bad boy
Fitted by local engineers TB Turbo ..
Packing that silage real good full of grease paste, hydraulic oil and diesel fumes
